Would be more convincing of patriotism if she sang in Gaelic, why did she sing in English? I will tell you why, it is because no one, including the scots and irish would have understood her. Gaelic, Welsh and Latin are dead languages, although there are a few that are trying to keep them alive, a forlorn effort. Mind you English is next, Arabic has taken over!

I'm watching a documentary about the castles in the UK and they talked about the battles where Scotland stood up to King Edward. They earned the bragging rights. Amazing to see them sing this to this day with such pride when those battles happened back in the 1300s

@@joedavis3983 I'm from Scotland. This song was actually only composed as recently as the 1960s by Roy Williamson of the folk duo The Corries. I remember hearing it as a kid back then. The phrase "flower of Scotland" originally referred to the loss of a huge amount of men and Scottish nobility (10,000 dead in one day), including the king (James IV) at the Battle of Flodden Field in the early 1500s after being asked for support by the French to honour a historic alliance against the English - the Auld Alliance that dates back to 1296. The song is so visceral in Scotland because it goes straight to the heart of the independent spirit on the one hand and fighting other people's battles on the other. And the minor harmonics in the melody just grab you by the guts or the ghoolies no matter where you are from. The thing that amuses me as a Scot whose mother was French is that since Brexit, many French people, not just rugby or football players are now remembering "La Vieille Alliance".
