Yeah, and when you realize that the Baritone Uke is just a diminished 4-string guitar, you get into guitars too. And naturally when you play uke and guitar already ... you know Bass-Uke and Bass guitar are just naturally to play on top. And when you are THAT much into string instruments ... Piano is just all the strings you could imagine in one big box. ;-) Welcome to dabbling into music.

Actually, I'm a drummer, however, I started with a tenor, and the seat in my Tesla smashed it. That being said, I am getting arthritis, so I bought a baritone which seems to be easier to play for me. I am screwed up now regarding the different tuning, but you are clear in the lessons. Thanks, Steve.

The tenor is best for various scrumming styles and soft songs, the baritone is better for playing full chords and roots to a song; Once you play both baritone and standard, YOU WILL PLAY THEM DIFFERENT.

I'm starting to realize that what you're saying is true, the smaller ukes are great for percussive playing, while I prefer my baritone for folk/rock.

I played a bit of tenor uke, before my ex stole mine... But I've been looking to replace it and am definitely leaning towards a baritone. I played bass, so I'm a sucker for 4 strings, but the tiny scale of even a concert size uke doesn't do well for me. I appreciate the in depth comparison, without a strong opinion one way or another. Unless I snag a great deal on a used tenor, I'm thinking baritone it is. Especially knowing that I remember chord shapes but not names, so it seems perfect!
@hiltonmcconnell2563 Жыл бұрын
I went from a soprano to a tenor and now have a baritone, the baritone was well worth the extra money, think you will be glad if you go baritone. Much easier to keep in tune and much easer to play. I still have my other two but hardly use them little. 99% of the time go with the baritone. I do have a friend who has a soprano but when he comes hear he wants to use my tenor so glad I keep it. They sound good playing together.

I went from soprano,concert,tenor now bar. I prefer the baritone mellow sound but I find most uke group songs lead themselves to gcea tuning using the easier chord shapes in that tuning, for example a lot of F chords and F chord on bark can be tiring. So intend to take 2 ukes to group jus t incase it easier with one or the other
@oldglit7 ай бұрын
Hey, newbie question... The chords have the same shape but change names/notes on baritone uke, right? Can you play songs you learn on standard uke the same way on baritone, or do you need to learn new chord sequences for the same song? Sorry if it's a dumb question, but I'm seriously considering switching from tenor to baritone uke and it's been on my mind...
@oldglit7 ай бұрын
Like, if I have a tutorial for a standard ukulele song, can I follow the finger chord forms on a baritone ukulele just the same, considering it's called different because of the tuning, or is it all different and do I need specific tutorials for the baritone ukulele?
@giannagarda75982 жыл бұрын
So, is it the same tuning of the four first strings of a guitar with no 'high G' effects of the ukulele? The size looks great: no so 'big' as the guitar and not so 'small' as the soprano 😉

Thank you, this was super helpful to get a feel for all the differences. I’m thinking of getting a baritone uke to imitate the Venezuelan cuatro, which is very similar except the bottom E string is tuned an octave lower. If I replace the uke’s bottom E string with another top D string, do you think I can safely tune that up to E without it breaking or damaging the uke?
@Theslavedrivers2 жыл бұрын
Very under-rated instrument.
@Traumglanz7 ай бұрын
It indeed is, but there is a good reason for that when the Tuning is basically just 4 strings of a guitar, going up from the high e. It's still such a great and simple instrument. Same for the concert uke really, placing a capo on the 5th fret on your guitar gives you a standard uke tuning, but it still plays so much different. Ukes are just great.

Thanks for the info Kevin. I have bought a baritone to go with my tenor, but the problem I have is that I play with a group all of whom play standard tuning. I have put standard strings on my baritone, but lost the mellow tone. Is there an easier way to play the baritone in a group of standard tunes without using a capo or struggling with the transposition? Thanks for your help.

Put barritone strings back on... Learn the chords as you go.... The shapes are the same as what you are used to, you just need to memorize the name associations... You'll be way ahead for guitar playing as well.🤪🎵🎶

@jefffunke2522 жыл бұрын
I love playing my baritone ukes, but oftentimes I get a twangy sound when I hit the D string on them, which isn't a problem on my smaller ukes. Is it my technique (usually my nail hits the string) or are there adjustments that can be made to the ukulele?
@MrSupersidewinder2 жыл бұрын
The lowest pitch string moves the most when played. The balance of action height vs buzzing is delicate... Some modern ukes allow tension rod adjustments (Caramel, etc.), for others the bridge needs to be replaced. If it buzzed when played softly there is something else going on like the nut slot may be too loose...

Quick fix if you can't do the transposition of a song......put a Capo on the 5th fret and play the same chords as standard [low G] tuning] uke song.

This video has too much information for its intended target group. If you are uncertain about transitioning between a normal uke and a baritone, that probably means you are not a very comfortable in music theory. The amount of fixation on things that are different rather than focus on things that are the same is mind numbing to somebody who can't memorize the whole fretboard yet. It's essentially not challanging at all. If you don't change your technique AT ALL between the two, it's still going to sound pretty good.
