thanks for this. question; can you organize your luts in folders? meaning can you drop folders into the common luts folder?
@crstprimer5763 Жыл бұрын
very helpful video. Is there a way to have lut folders within premiere pro itself? What if I have 750 luts? I have to scroll through a dropdown menu with 750 luts just to find the specific one I want to use? Seems like there must be a better way to do this. Any help?
@AlliandWill Жыл бұрын
As far as I know there is not a folder system, but you can rename the luts which is what I’ve done. Add numbers in front starting from 001 for the ones you want to use often and it’ll keep them at the top of the list

I didn't quite get what is the purpose of the 'technical folder'? Could you explain further. Thank you very much for taking the time to put this tutorial together.
@AlliandWill2 жыл бұрын
The first folder is meant for converting the footage back to rec709 for example. In the Lumetri Color panel inside Premiere Pro, this would be done in the ‘Basics’ tab. That’s the “technical” LUTs. Then the next tab is the “Creative” tab inside Lumetri Color; this is where you apply your Color grading LUTs to give your footage a creative look. So the second folder called ‘Creative’ in the folder structure is meant for this second “creative” tab. Hope that helps!

What else can be put in the common file? I HATEEEE having to recreate all my plug-in and scripts folders every new version. Can this same technique work with plug-ins and presets and workspaces??? Please say yes!
@AlliandWill2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, I don’t think everything will work in common, but we did make a video on what folders to copy over to help make it easy if the sync feature isn’t working!
@tvariuness Жыл бұрын
good stuff. why create a "creative" and a "technical" folder tho?
@AlliandWill Жыл бұрын
Lumetri color in Premiere pro has a ‘basic’ tab and a ‘creative’ tab, so the folders are associated with each one. Basic is the technical tab meant for converting footage from log to rec 709. The creative is for color grading and giving your footage a unique look. Both folders can have the same luts but only the creative tab in Premiere can control the intensity, unless you add Lumetri color to an adjustable layer, then you can set the layer’s opacity to taste. Hope that helps!

so i tried this a few ways and premiere pro can't seem to load ALL my luts. i purchased over 400 luts and no matter where i put them, all of them DO NOT show up in premiere. very frustrating. any ideas on a solve?
@AlliandWill Жыл бұрын
Premiere might have a cap! I’m not sure. Personally I think 400 is overkill, so I’d narrow it down to like your top 40

@@AlliandWill Do we NEED to copy LUTs to both folders? I don't really want to use them on the Basic tab since you can't change intensity. Will it break anything if I ONLY put LUTs in the Creative folder?

So, after making the LUTs folder inside Common, we'll make the Creative & Tech'l folders and then put a copy of the LUTs in each of the two folders? Is that it? Thank you.
@AlliandWill Жыл бұрын
It depends on how you use the luts but generally speaking you could put them in both. Although; Tech is for converting from log for example. Creative is meant for the other tab where you can adjust the amount

Hey I created my files and got my luts from the canon website, specifically for r6, but the luts doesn't seem to appear in my software, may I know how to fix this? or is there like a specific folder I have to paste it in the folder? I pasted in the creative folder, this is my first time dealing with luts so I am new to importing
@AlliandWill Жыл бұрын
Hey, if you followed this video, it should solve that issue for you; it shows exactly which folder to place them in. Then inside Premiere, you’ll see them in Lumetri color. If not, try restarting your computer

I use icloud for documents and my adobe / common folder lives there and happens to be in the cloud, will that slow down adobe premier?
@AlliandWill11 ай бұрын
I might depending on the internet connection speed you have. I generally recommend keeping things on an external drive or the internal drive to work off of.

@_coloringbook Жыл бұрын
You have to create it. When you open the path Program Files > Adobe > Common, select create new folder, name it LUTs. Inside that folder, create two more folders: Technical, and Creative.

That's definitely the best way to install them, but in my case (MacBook and Premiere 2024) I found a minor set back: Every time I´m browsing through the LUTs on the miniature preview of the creative tab (clicking the small arrow to the right), as soon as I click in the middle of the miniature to apply the lut to my footage, this lut moves all the way to the top of the list, so if I wanna keep scrolling from where I stopped I can't, I´ll start at the begginning of the my huge list of luts again.. This doesn't happen if I put the Luts on the Premiere Folder itself.. I can just scroll on the miniature, click on it to see how it looks on my footage, then keep scrolling the list from where I stopped onwards.. Anyone else have this problem?

Interesting, this might be a version issue. I haven’t experienced that before. I name my important Luts with numbers so they stay near the top. That being said, Adobe is constantly changing things from one version to another and it can get frustrating. It work well and we as users will get used to it, then they’ll add a new feature and something else will break

@AlliandWill2 жыл бұрын
Hmm. Interesting, make sure you are looking in the right installation folder of Adobe. Also, you could try creating your own common folder in the proper directory within the Adobe folders and then add the files yourself. Maybe that will work for you?
@liveshotsvideoproductions Жыл бұрын
ALERT! Yes, it works, but be warned; when you re-open your projects, you are likely to find that the LUTs you designated to your footage have changed. Premiere seems to save the Lumetri data as [the 10th LUT in the A-Z list] rather than its specific .CUBE file name. Insert new LUTs to the creative list, and depending on its place in the A-Z order, what was the 10th may now be the 14th. (N/A if it is one you browsed for)
@guyvears5064 Жыл бұрын
that's the dumbest thing ever haha, have you found a work around?

Yep, super annoying that adding a single LUT messes up the color on every saved project.
