Today we're discussing the American Academy of Pediatrics' new childhood obesity treatment guidelines, which suggest surgery and medications in severe cases of childhood obesity. Of course, we've seen obesity rates skyrocket in the past few years due to lockdowns and school closures, as well as the increasing glorification of obesity in Hollywood and the music industry. We talk about what real solutions might look like, without the insanity of surgeries and pharmaceuticals not intended for children, and why we should be skeptical of these "expert suggestions" in light of what "experts" did during COVID. Then, we look at the Miss Universe pageant, which is owned by a biological male who identifies as female. In last week's competition, he announced that the pageant is run by women and made for women, revealing yet another space for women that has been taken over by men. We also look at some of the crazy costumes from the pageant. We're catching up on the gas stove controversy, covering the Left's original discussions about banning, their hypocrisy, and all the gaslighting when they got pushback. Lastly, we discuss Beth Moore's recent Twitter thread in which she states she doesn't agree with Jonathan Edwards' "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God." We dive into Edwards' sermon and break down the uncomfortable truth of the wrath of God, the choice he has given us to be redeemed, and why the wishy-washy doctrine Beth Moore seems to prefer offers nothing new.

Jonathon Edwards was a shy, retiring person who was very soft spoken. He was an academic who loved study and research. He was not someone who yelled or screamed at people and pounded on the pulpit when delivering a sermon. He typically read his sermons in a quiet, monotone voice. So it wasn’t his delivery but rather what he wrote that set off the first great awakening. He was one of America’s greatest intellectuals who wrote several classics on theology. He was the last person you’d think God would use to bring about a great spiritual awakening.

Oh to have the humility and love that Edwards had for biblical truth exalting our Lord Jesus Christ. And, his understanding of Communion with God and repentance.😔

This is a quote from a Christianity Today article about Jonathan Edwards, which I found pertinent to this discussion: " Popular caricatures of Jonathan Edwards’s theology focus almost solely on divine wrath, usually in reference to his infamously titled sermon, “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God.” A deeper read of his theology, however, discovers instead that God’s love is the impetus for Edwards’s understanding of salvation." *Note- I personally would never use word "infamous" (as Christianity Today uses in the quote above) to describe the "Sinners in the Hand of an Angry God" sermon, as God's wrath is clearly, spoken about, even in the New Testament.

He wasn't scheduled to preach that day in Enfield, Connecticut. The preacher was sick, he was only a vistor, and they asked if he would be willing to fill-in. He had the sermon with him which he had already preached to no known effect at his own church. The Holy Spirit moved in this situation this time and not only at that little small-town church - it was published and the Spirit moved like wildfire throughout the colonies. It was the "Great Awakening". May we have another one very soon!

When he preached this sermon, accounts of reactions in the pews tell of people desperately calling out what must we do to be saved? The people were convicted and had an acute sense of their personal complete need of a Savior.

If the same sermon were preached today, apart from the Holy Spirit working to convict everyone of their need for salvation, everybody would ho-hum and go out for donuts or home to watch "the game" or go golf, etc.

Beth Moore took a small excerpt of a deep Edwards sermon and used it to further her lacking theology. Edwards is completely correct in that our sin makes us untenable to a Holy God. That is the very truth that necessitated the need for Christ's perfect sacrifice. Beth Moore has chosen to stop before the "good news" and express her horror to simply draw attention to herself and her uber lovingness (again). Her thirst to stay in the spotlight is slaked at a high price. Bad theology is deadly.

And why we know Jesus isn't God in the flesh. People try to make God our best friend. He is HOLY and set apart and we are only in covenant with Him because He sent His son to redeem us. God does not dwell with SIN. He has 7 Spirits and His Son to help us get back into relationship to His kingdom.

Great rebuttal to Beth Moore. If you negate the sting of death and hell to the unbeliever, if you dilute the urgency and finality of eternity apart from God, if u fail to communicate the utter depravity of a sinner in need of a Savior, what gospel are we even preaching? And there u have the beginnings of ineffectiveness and apostasy in the church.

Anyone who really looks at Edward's sermon would know that his doctrine was just as false as anything Beth Moore teaches. Just because this particular Edwards sermon is famous, it doesn't make it biblical. And furthermore, Edwards isn't beyond reproach just because Protestants love to make idols and celebrities out of their pastors.

@Jeremiah17910
@Jeremiah17910 Жыл бұрын
@Melissa Eberhart friend, you are ignorant of God's word. Penal substitutionary atonement is Biblical, Christ died on the cross for our sins, in our place, He bore our sins on His body, Jesus Christ bore the wrath of God for our sins, He died as our substitute. Whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. The wrath of God against our sins was poured on Jesus Christ on the cross. Those who believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ and Him crucified for our sins and risen from the dead for our justification have been saved by grace through faith and that not of ourselves, it is a gift of God. You are very ignorant of what the Wrath of God really is. You made a stupid statement about the wrath of God. The wrath of God is not something God needs to get out of His system. The wrath of God is one of His attributes and His wrath is Holy, Righteous and Just. Therfore every sinner that dies without the Lord Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior will be justly condemned in eternal hell. Friend, If you do not believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins as your substitute and rose from the dead for your justification, you are still walking in darkness and the darkness has blinded your eyes to clearly see that Jesus Christ did indeed die on the cross for our sins as our substitute. The just one Jesus Christ died for the unjust ones us, sinners. I hope you come to the cross of Christ and humbly believe and trust Him as your Lord and Savior.

That sounds like a really, really good sermon. Challenging a person to change their ways and turn to the Lord. Calling us out for our sins. Inspiring us to seek out our God and Savior to forgive and redeem us that we may dwell with Him for eternity. There are too many “feel good” and “prosperity preachers” out there leading people straight to the fires of hxxx. We should not be comfortable in our sins. We should feel regret and repent before our Lord asking forgiveness. Very good. Very good.

The Bible is absolutely filled with the justice and wrath of God. It is also filled with His mercy, grace, compassion, and love. They go hand in hand. Psalm 11:5-7 5The LORD tests the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence. Let him rain coals on the wicked; fire and sulfur and a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup. For the LORD is righteous; he loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold his face.

Thank you Allie for tackling all issues from health to spiritual issues in our society. I was a CNA on the general surgical floor in a Hospital in my area of which I took care of a lot of post-surgical gastric sleeve patients. It is definitely an effective surgery although there are most certainly side-effects. One of being which that you end up having hair-loss due to your stomach not being able to absorb proper nutrients and the likely hood of reversing the surgery due to stretching out the stomach again from going back to old eating habits. Changing our habits are for-sure the most effective, safe and longer term health solution!

My Mom was using Slim Fast to lose weight and I actually loved the shakes, so I begged my Mom for weeks to put me on Slim Fast (back then it was expensive and not sold in the grocery store) Finally she reluctantly gave in... I remember how excited I was when I began losing weight, I felt "grown up" well someone told our school nurse that I was only drinking a Slim Fast shake for lunch and the school called CPS on my Mom 🙄

My husband runs a sports club in our city and it wasn't until this past fall (Oct. 2022) that he could find a facility that would rent him space for their club. There is a family support group in our city that runs stuff like breastfeeding group, dad and kids supper group, etc. that still asks vaccine status and requires masks for unvaccinated. All our health facilities (hospitals, clinic, chiro, physio, massage) require masks still. It is crazy. So many teen suicides and so many people still hiding in their homes. Awful.

I remember when my daughter who is now 38 was about 5 her doctor say gas stoves where not the best choice because she had asthma. This knowledge is not new and he just said to make sure we had a good ventilation system. Not sure why all of a sudden it’s just big news headlines.

When I was in high school, we read this for American literature. Some public schools today have students read SITHOAG for American literature, but to ridicule, having great fun shouting as they read. They don't teach that Edwards read this sermon in a mild tone. And they wouldn't understand if they knew, the fact that people had gathered to pray before and during the sermon. This was the power that resulted in repentance and the Great Awakening.

Medical “professionals” all over are affirming those with body dysphoria. Are they affirming the anorexics and their body dysphoria? Why affirm some and not others? They don’t encourage anorexics because it would be detrimental. Apparently encouraging any other type of body dysphoria is okay. And states give these people license to practice? 🙄

I think it's more of a case of doctors who were already licensed and practicing who now have to go along with the current proclamations from the medical and psychological associations or risk losing their licenses and livelihood. That accounts for some (sadly, their silence is doing great harm). Others are unethical or just evil and are profiting from the sick new trends. The only ones getting fired will be the ones who speak out against the madness, I'm afraid.

Second Timothy 4:3 - For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but having itching ears, they shall heap to themselves teachers in accordance with their own lusts. She scratches to those whose ears are tickled. WE NEED pastors to step back up to the pulpit and start telling it like it really is. I'm sick of the way they sidestep the Word and only deliver what isn't going to stir the pot. God help us, our Christian leaders have failed us all.

I personally was ushered into the Kingdom by the message of God's love for me in Christ Jesus. This was a real conversion and what I know now as the presence of the Holy Spirit was bearing witness that day; which is why I had to go to the alter! That said, there were some things that were hard for me to comprehend in the sanctification process as a result, and the very hypocritical and religious "Once saved always saved" crowd didn't help. Not that that's not true, but it can be very misleading...grace is not a license to sin. But following the Holy Spirit is the best way to preach in a moment because He knows who and how someone needs to be saved. I have never led anyone to Christ through the message of fire and brimstone; yet, I sometimes wonder if I have loved people straight into hell... Recently I had a vision of hell and it was devastating; I immediately went to my brother, at great risks I might add, because he is a hard leftist that hates Christianity for no other reason than ignorance and propaganda. But I was so scared for his soul. Of course he didn't listen and got extremely angry.. so I left. I thought I was gonna get a beat down, but I didn't care. I pray for him everyday still, and will to my last breath.

When Jonathan was preaching 'Sinners in the Hands of angry God' , the church was so mixed up with the world and they were lviing like non beleivers and just showed up at church on Sunday and they call themsevles Christians. They were mocking God's grace and take it for granted as God was not judging them. So when he preached 'SSinners in the Hands of angry God' was awakening to the church of that time. On this day in history, Jonathan Edwards started a sermon that he did not finish. Such was the impact of his preaching that the people listening shrieked and cried out, and the crying and weeping became so loud that Edwards was forced to discontinue the sermon. Instead, the pastors went down among the people and prayed with them in groups. Many came to a saving knowledge of Christ that day.

I was in the medical field for 30 + years. I saw many, many professionals who had the surgery. Not even one of these adult professionals were able to maintain the regime it would take to keep it up. Not to mention the ongoing medical treatments for the rest of their lives.

Yes and amen. I agree with you : the true gospel is we are all sinners and God is so holy we cannot possibly save ourselves and WITHOUT His Son , Jesus Christ, we cannot be with Him and we will spend eternity in hell . Hell is not just a uncomfortable place! It's a place that God never intended human beings to go to ! That is why He is so amazing to love us so much to send Jesus Christ. I used to hate Christians and I used to NOT be one. It was God's amazing amazing grace and mercy that He saved me....and He has since been SO faithful despite my backsliding tendencies/ignorance... to still save me. Lately God has had me in His Word and I just want to do whatever the Lord wants me to do.

As someone who has been overweight since age 9, regardless of activity or eating the same meals as my thin siblings…. I was put on a GLP1 medication this year that actually treats my obesity. It’s not an easy fix. I have to do all the work, but now? My work is getting me somewhere, instead of just spinning my wheels and gaining no matter what. I wish to God I had had this medication when I was a teen, so that I could have stopped the train THEN, instead of 30 years later finally getting actual help that works. I wouldn’t want children to have surgery or the meds that are basically legal speed(which I took at 17), but this med is treating my hormonal imbalances. It’s time to realize obesity is a complex disease and treat it as such.

John Edwards was extremely effective in reaching people . The Holy Spirit ministered to Beth Moore as well. There have always, throughout time. been both messages, because both message is true, and both message reflects the relationship between the sinner and the creator.

I generally like Jonathan Edwards' sermon "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God", but in some parts I think he goes further afield from the Scriptures in his commentary than is necessary to make his case. The Bible makes its points as powerfully as possible, and no man need, nor can, increase the force of its polemic.

That sermon declares the love and grace of God to us , wicked sinners that do not deserve God's gift of Jesus an salvation through him. God is Holy and abhors sin .it is only because of his grace that we can enjoy salvation. Beth Moore has no understanding of God's hatred of wickness and sin.

Miss Netherlands is a Stoupe Waffle! Makes perfect sense and is fun. T&T has Indian roots and is Hindu. Many of the people living there have Indian heritage. The British brought Indian people over to help build up the T&T colony. They have done this costume of your country for a very long time. Kind of like Miss America and their show parade. US is the first on the moon. The Statue of Liberty has been done many times. And Miss Ukraine, we had earmarked money for them to create that ;)

If anyone has attended one of her bible studies they will know Beth is driven by intense emotionalism. I remember being very put of by it. Hyper emotionalism clouds critical thinking and becomes idolatry of self, a self faith, what feels right, getting hooked on feelings rather than hooked on the Sovereign God of the Bible.

I agree with pretty much everything Allie Beth says but I'm confused with her (and others bc I've heard it for years) that God hates sin so much that he can't be in the presence of it (49:20 ish). But even though I'm saved, I'm still a sinner, and I know God is near to me, so I'm not sure that is accurate? I know I have Christ's righteousness but I still sin and God still hates my sin. So maybe He can be in the presence of sin?

Having a supervised after-school physical activity program for kids would make a tremendous difference! Only allowing healthy food in school lunches for ALL kids is a good example and habit for kids and parents. Education about body health like the program "Shape Down for Kids" is proven to decrease problems with obesity into adulthood.
