Allied does not get enough credit for their superb bikes. Thanks for the review. And if people don't think made in America counts, they need to review global dynamics, discover the importance of championing the home team and supporting your fellow Americans. We're in this thing together. Go Allied!!!

Agreed. They’re doing incredible things over there and the team knows how to build a bike. I’m really excited to check out the new ALFA when it launches.

I tried 42mm Pathfinders on my Echo with Enve 3.4 SES wheels. They cleared but just barely and were very close to the front derailleur battery cable (Shimano Ultegra), so I backed them down to 38mm. It is a very snappy bike albeit a bit heavier than a pure road bike but floats over chunky gravel and is fast on tarmac. The Allied team is super helpful and a great bunch of folks.

I like that you are able to showcase a fellow USA based manufacturer.....maybe you go out to Utah to try out the fleet of bikes from Fezzari next? I would love to see your thoughts on their lineup of bikes as I want to support a smaller, US-based, brand for my next bike purchase! Great video as always!

Thank you! I definitely need to pay a visit to Fezzari and Ventum- they seem to be creating great bikes.

Coming from MTB (specialized stumpjumper expert) I think I over emphasized tire clearance when choosing a gravel bike with a canyon grizl it’s a cushy ride but found myself wanting something faster right away
@outdoorbros_ Жыл бұрын
Amen. In theory, we all want huge tires, until we have to ride on road with said huge tires.

Very cool looking bike. I’d love to see someone review it long term and see how the carbon holds up but from your thoughts on it I’m impressed.
@outdoorbros_ Жыл бұрын
At some point, hopefully I can get one for a longer term demo and we’ll see how it does. Based on what I saw, I see every reason to believe it would hold up as good, if not better, than any major brand.
@James-bt9og Жыл бұрын
I enjoy your perspective! Definitely adding the Echo to my shortlist. Do you have thoughts on the Ridley Grifn? Re tire clearance, I think 40 mm is plenty for where I ride. Even 35 mm is probably enough. It is mainly compact gravel linking road sections, although it can get a little sandy in summer.
@outdoorbros_ Жыл бұрын
I haven’t! I’ll check it out.

No mention of the adjustable geometry / flip chip(s), what position they were in, etc?
@outdoorbros_ Жыл бұрын
I didn’t have it for long enough to mess with the flip chips and whatnot. It’s a feature, not one that I explored.

I host two races a year. Both courses have a mix of pavement, Gravel and Trail. We have riders on mountain bikes and gravel bikes. I think a gravel bike with 45mm -50mm tires may be the best setup. My normal all terrain ride 35-38 mm tires is fine.
@outdoorbros_ Жыл бұрын
Sounds great!
@markanderson7412 Жыл бұрын
So to have the 40mm tyres in you had it in gravel mode? Was your first day ride with a different set of wheels tyres? It’s deff on the list once a new updated version will have clearance to ‘flip chip it’ to 45mm tyres and not use the in-house intergrated stem deff would use the Enve stem/bar combo Thanks And Allied 👍
@outdoorbros_ Жыл бұрын
I just borrowed it in whatever mode and setup they had on the floor. I think it’s a great bike for a lot of people out there.

Hi, thanks for posting. I think I just bought the demo bike you rode :) I’m super excited! Quick question - I also am more of a road rider than gravel rider. Since the tires are 40s, would you recommend replacing them with a set of 32s? Or do you think the 40s can keep up on the road? Just want to be sure I’ll be able to keep up on local road rides. Thanks!
@outdoorbros_ Жыл бұрын
Nice, your scored! I think tire choice so much on use. If you’re riding more road, I’d swap them for a set of road tires.
@dasdWARf Жыл бұрын
For me the thing holding the crux back is the factory components. Otherwise I don't think there is anything else that beats it weight and clearance wise. 3T gets pretty close though. Unless you're really after a relaxed geometry. One gravel bike that really tickles me is the ridley kanzo fast though.

I agree about the Crux. $6.2K for the Expert build is rough... but the build kits on most bikes are still pretty awful right now, no?

SAFA said it best. “I don’t think most people understand how fun a gravel bike with huge tires is. It’s just so different than mountain biking.” Nailed it.

How would you compare to Aspero?
@outdoorbros_ Жыл бұрын
Echo is much more of an all-road bike. Aspero is a fast gravel bike to me.
@slayermtb_7848 Жыл бұрын
Nice. I see they gave you a version with external routing . The standard version has the hoses ram though the steerer tube and requires you to use their proprietary stem. This was the deal breaker for me .
@kellrockets101 Жыл бұрын
Bike looks lovely...but man I can't get on with that Allied stem.
@Wieber84 Жыл бұрын
This is good to know got a canyon recently and it has an inch and a quarter steerer tube really limiting my options for a stem sometimes these small details make a big difference in the ownership experience thanks for pointing this out
@notpablo8369 Жыл бұрын
@@Wieber84also giant with their "overdrive" steerer 😆😆😆

What’s your issue with their proprietary stem? I think the opposite- I’d want the stem with the internal routing if I were to buy an Echo.
