2022 took me 15 hours and 43 minutes, had no idea how to fuel or climb, just got my first road bike about a month before that too lol. 2023 took me 10 hours 37 mins, after a mechanical at mile 50 that costed me 11 mins and never caught back up to lead group. 😢

On your video going down hill I can see the head end to twitchy. I personally think today’s bikes are too light and the head end tends to bounce too much which with your statement it confirms the having a shallow wheels set sort of compensates specially with cross winds. I remember the BMC, cervelo r3 with skinny rear triangle which made these bikes feel the rear triangle to give you the sensation of wondering. Didn’t like it. I rather have a heavy/stiff bike than a noodle bike. I have never own a specialized so I can’t comment on these bikes I have only pinarello for 12+ years now. Would I change the pinarellos? Nope. I have probably done 1 year (1 month = 4 weeks) * 12,000 miles (12 years) yea do the math on pinarellos than I don’t need other brand.

Great video and learnings. I did a 300km road race in Melbourne and few years ago and came 2nd in my age group. The reason I did well was due to the zone 2 endurance 200+ training rides. Keep up the great content

Prefer the pinhole notch. Would pay more for better camera. It's sad that phone manufacturers are all relegating 3.5mm headphone jacks to lower end phones.

Only if you're riding solo in a large race. He is in a large group, drafting the vast majority of the time, with maybe a few stints at the front of the group taking the wind (maybe the 688W max power?), so avg power is very low in that group setting.

Wow, where to start. I’m considering a SWORKS SL8 Rubaix, a Giant Defy SL, and a Pinarello Dogma X. All in the interest of getting something a little faster, more aero than my gravel bike, yet still comfortable for this older guy, which mostly rides on paved trails anyway. This ENVE Frey just threw a wrench in that lineup. I love ENVE products. I ride ENVE G23s on my Giant gravel bike. It made the bike a lot lighter and faster. But like a lot of us, I want something that looks good and feels good, while being able to keep up with the local group riders…any advice? And, something that I can comfortably put in the miles on… I want the best tool for the grind…

I'm running 35mm Panaracer Gravelking Slick on my 'winter' bike. The tyre claims to be a gravel tyre & it is tough enough for smooth gravel but there is no tread. It is a great road tyre for my typical pothole filled roads in Scotland. There are faster tyres but my lack of speed is first down to me, second the non-aero wheels, third the bike geometry (Cannondale Topstone AL) & only fourth the tyres. I'd be very tempted by these Pirelli tyres & I think they would just fit inside my mudguards.

I been riding mountain bikes since the mid 80's and seen a lot of amazing technology and a bunch garbage come out over the years, and unfortunately today's tech is garbage. 1x drive trains are ridiculous the marketing hype is all about simplicity, yet in their next breath they talk about internal cable routing that is more complicated than cracking a safe. Now all the hype is suspension forks on gravel, for Pete's sake man they already have suspension on a gravel bike it's called a 29er. The 1x was created for several moronic reasons. 1. Chain suck on carbon frames can be detrimental, besides a newb or someone who doesn't perform bike maintenance it's a non-issue. 2. Cheaper manufacture with more maintenance cost. The smallest cog on a 12-speed rear cassette has about the same life span as the common house fly. All driven by money and not performance. Lastly a gravel bike is supposed to be a do all super versatile bike, but when you take away a lot of gearing versatility, leaving you to suffer spin outs on descents and long straight away, and lots of giant steps between gears making for hard under pressure shifts ridiculous. Internal cable routing is another moronic marketing hype. Very difficult to service wears the housing and frame more quickly, and if there is a frayed cable it can cut a frame in 1/2 before you know it. The new suspension forks for gravel makes the geometry slack, cost a ton of cash and is worthless for gravel. So please stop already.

Curious, it looks like you are running the DUB wide spacing here, right? What is the chainstay length on the Fray? I had some conversations with SRAM folks at a race recently, specifically RE the chainline requirements of the RED XPLR. The answers were confusing to say the least... They suggested that one should use the DUB wide chainline of 47.5 mm with gravel bike chainstay lengths(typically 420-430 mm), but that one should use the DUB normal width for shorter chain stays with the 45 mm chainline. It all sounds dubious to me: wider chainline for longer chain stays... I prefer the regular road spacing, even for gravel use, as it the narrower Q factor is more aero, and biomechanically superior for me.
