I absolutely hated the rip stops. They were great in tropical environments like the Philippines (3rd SPS, 3rd SPG, Clark AB Phillipines 1988-90) but they were worthless everywhere else. I preferred the temperate weight BDUs, even in Turkey (Balikesir 1991-92 & Incirlik 1994-95).

The NZDF dropped that pattern of uniform about 5 years ago. The cut was good but the camo and material it was printed on was shit. They now issue a NZ variant of British MTP.

I have several at home, mostly from the Algerian War but the fit is really quite nice. The Kepi isn't used as often as we speak and isn't part of the majority of dress uniforms for the French Army/Air Force/Navy. I've often seen Police dress use them but I could be wrong on their use in our current army.

They are still a go. More over there is now a squere hat in wz93 pattern issued to terytorial guard. Look up Rogatywka hat has many cuts and quite some history.

The white Képi of the French Foreign Legion is the most iconic and prized headgear in the entire military world. You better take back what you said.

That grid pattern is called “rip-stop fabric”, and before you ask, yes the name is accurate, I had a shirt and a pair of pants that I used to use for my old job that got caught on a fence but the grid pattern prevented those clothes from getting completely torn, and the damage is not too bad considering I was falling when my clothes got caught lol

I was wearing a brand new pair of hot weather (aka summer weight, though tropical is a better description) BDUs at Clark AB Phillipines, and ripped an "L" shaped hole in the ass of my pants getting out of our M-151 posting vehicle at the end of our shift one night. The hole was 1.5 inches by 3 inches, so, the "rip stops" aren't.

The “boxy grid line things” on the Polish uniform is called ripstop. It’s basically what it sounds like, it stopes rips from getting bigger. A lot of military’s have it in their uniforms.

Pretty sure the boxy grid lines are because they are ripstop nylon. It's areas of better reinforcement in the fabric so in the event of a tear, the tear stops when it hits one of the lines. I would think that they could be made invisible, but every piece of ripstop clothing I have come across looks like that.

Little boxy things. BDU's used to come in two different fabric weights. Winter weight, which is closer to what we wear now, and summer weight, which was lightweight and breathable but had this boxy ripstop design that minimized tears if they ever happened.

Atleast on the USAF’s old ABU’s, the ones with the boxy grid lines were the summer weight ones made of 50-50 cotton nylon instead of 100% cotton. The Polish uniforms might be the same thing, either a summer fit or a 50-50.
