Yes, you have really tapped into a true fear. Millions of women watch KZbin and then try the same techniques, often times we fail and that can feel really frustrating. The use of filters is sometimes to blame and should be required to be disclosed.

I am so excited to see this type of vid again!! I think now this is what's missing in the space. Reviews are fine, but then ppl starting out really don't know proper ways to apply everything. I'm way too excited for this series! Even someone like myself who is 37 and has worked in the beauty industry I feel we can always learn more from watching others techniques. Thin layers always and I'm so happy you said primers can cause issues, that was always my struggle until I realized I really don't need primer. Broke me out , and looked worse not better. But using a makeup setting mist like all nighter over skincare prep as a primer for more combo oily skin is amazing tip. I miss tutorials on this platform so this gets me excited.
@spookmagooked301711 ай бұрын
Same! I had never used primers and was always complimented on my makeup- drugstore foundation and all. I paused my makeup routine after having a baby... tried picking it back up when he started school and I returned to work. Realised my tastes in makeup style changed, as well as my skin and face in general- it was like I was a whole new, unfamiliar canvas. Went back to the drawing board, i.e. tutorials. Everyone insisted on this and that, with primers being the "MUST" in makeup routine. I tried all of the raves, from ELF putty to Benefit Pore fessional, Milk, Smashbox, etc etc and not a single one worked with a single foundation that I used, so I went back to basics and skip the primer. I'm about to turn 38, my son is now 15... and yet I'm still trying to figure it all out! It's so much harder now because I have fine lines on the forehead and my skin texture is more apparent than ever. I'd love to just skip the foundation all together but I have a lot of extreme redness on the nose (yet I never drink alcohol) and feel like the level of coverage required for that alone would look weird on an otherwise bare face? I don't know. I'm at a loss which is why I'm here! Haha. Looking forward to this series!

I feel so confident since I finally found a foundation match to my really fair skin. All drugstore base products are always way to dark and I was so happy when I discovered the skin-tone range in high-end products and that I could try them in a store with a professional to really find a match. My go-to base product is the nars tinted mosturizer in the lightest shade. Thank you for this video concept Allie!

First of all, thank you so-so-so-so much Allie for this series!!! My biggest problem that I have a fair to light skin and I can't find my perfect red lip color. Sometimes I wanna rock a good red lip with a white top, with jeans or a black dress (you know...) and I always end up washing it off because I feel it too much😑😓 I don't think the problem is with the color or that my skin is too light, but with the fact that I haven't found the right base tone or shade yet. The same is the case with the nude shades: they're stronger than a nude should be or my face just washed out. This is my biggest fear, so some tips on finding the perfect lip colors would be a huge help for me. 🥺🤩
@nobodysummonsmegatron11 ай бұрын
If you have warm coloring choose an orange red. If you have cool coloring, choose a blue based red. My skin tone is light neutral but my hair and eye color are cool toned and I look better in blue based reds. If you still feel it's too intense maybe consider a gloss or lip stain instead, but honestly sometimes a red lip just takes getting used to because it's so dramatic. Hope that helps.
@rutha.asbery988011 ай бұрын
I'm also fair-light, so here's a few ideas to think about. I'm neutral leaning cool, so practically any shade of red looks good on me as long as it's not too orange. Like @nobodysummonsmegatron said, red can take some getting used to. Wear it around the house when you're not going anywhere to help acclimate your eyes to seeing yourself in that color. Maybe try a toned-down red, so it's not RED to help ease your brain into seeing yourself in something that is not your normal look. My favorite is the Lancome Drama Ink in 270 Peau Contre Peau. The NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Rome is a red-leaning, mid-tone brown, that might be good for dipping your toes in the water. Also, the NYX Smooth Whip in Parfait (darker than Rome) is a brown leaning red that almost has a hint of purple to it that makes it lean cool. The Maybelline Vinyl Ink in Lippy is very similar to Parfait. Or a sheer red that will let more of your natural lip color shine through. Estee Lauder Pure Color Illuminating Shine 914 Unpredictable is good for that. Except for the Estee Lauder, I think of all of these as red without being RED! (Yes, I own waaaay too much red lipstick for as rarely as I wear red lipstick. 😄) Edit: And keep in mid the undertone of your foundation will also affect how a red looks on you. (Or any lipstick for that matter.) I've had days where a color looks great on me, and the next day it doesn't. Took me a bit to realize that a cool foundation will make it look different from a neutral foundation.

OMG SAME! I’ve wanted nothing more than to use bold color on my eyes, but I feel like I look crazy. I’d love to use teals or purples….but I’m very fair skinned too, and I feel like it’s “against the rules” even though we should be able to do whatever we want lol for me, I feel like it’s maybe a combination of me not being used to seeing bold colors on myself and the fact that I probably need to get better with eyeshadow techniques/blending 😅😅 lol

My fears is why I'm protective of my preteen that's dabbling in makeup recently. We've talked tone, shade, and placement. She has a great completion but likes a little concealer under and around her eyes for a nice base. (I love this! Sometimes less is more) She also LOVES highlight. She has the world to learn from that I didn't have. I didn't have a big sister either, and my mom only ever wore mascara and lipstick. It was a live and learn journey for me. She's thankful for youtube and has me... I've been wearing makeup for 20+ years and have been using KZbin for 15 years to learn new products and new techniques. These newer generations are so lucky to skip the trauma makeup can cause. Lmao! This series is what's missing from what I've seen. Some have tried, but they are old and no way to be found unless you know where to look.

I'm so lucky that Allie is basically my skin twin because it's easier to find my correct shade! I also feel like in terms of base products, you don't need to limit yourself to a foundation. I have fairly clear skin, and I like having a light feeling on my face, so rather than use foundation or tint, I spot conceal with glowy or satin concealer and then set with powder. Obviously that is for more of a "clean girl" or "no make up" look and wouldn't be as suitable for glam occasions.

And the learning about makeup doesn’t seem to end. I only finally began to understand tones last year when my concealer and powder made my under eyes yellow. I have autoimmune disease and have combo dry skin, my favorite makeup prep after moisturizer and spf is a moisturizing mist or essence. I love beekman 1802 milkshake, pat mcgrath 001 rose essence and ilia the base face milk. I usually put it in a spray bottle or just tap it into my skin and then wait 5 mins. It also depends if I’m wearing foundation or a skin tint. If I’m wearing foundation I sometimes skip the mist and essence and use a hydrating primer if I want it to last longer for special occasions.

about the color correcting... some people with a lot of redness in their skin usually benefits a lot from a green color corrector. the tone of green is important (some products are almost neon lol) but there is value in that, it can be helpful. my personal tip is that if you can only find the super hulk green ones, try mixing it with your concealer or foundation first to spot conceal. or try applying it with a light hand and really blending it out

Foundation matching is so hard! People always gave the jewelry or vein trick to pick your undertone. My issue with that is my face is neutral imo. Like you I have pink and warmness in certain areas. Pink foundation looks off on me and warm foundation doesn’t look right. So according to those tricks I need a pink foundation but according to my face I need neutral! I need a part 2 of this 😊. It's hard to find drugstore makeup for me that is for dry skin, peachy undertone and fair to light with a light to medium coverage. They are always either out of stock or it looks like it would work and get it home and it's still either to light or to deep for me.

What I have done is found a formula that I really like, and bought one shade that fits me when I’m at my palest in the winter, and one shade that fits me when I’m tan in the summer. Then I can mix the two to match me no matter the season. 😊 Edit: I obviously wrote my comment before Allie mentioned this tip 😂😂😂

I have large pores and half way through the day my makeup has settled in my pores and it looks terrible! I will be in the bathroom at work wiping my face to remove makeup 😢 I use tinted moisturizer too, with primer…and I don’t think Im heavy handed? Long story short is I’m afraid to go without primer but maybe Im using the wrong one? I use maybelline Baby Skin® Instant Pore Eraser®.

I don’t think olive under stone is talked about enough. I have an olive undertone and in my experience it’s it’s own undertone, not one that fits in the warm category. I tend to go for neutral undertones since most brands don’t formulate olive undertones, or if they do they can actually pull way too green. And if you also have olive undertone like me, you might find even neutral pulls too yellow. Recently I started taking the blue color corrector from elf and adding a couple small dots to my foundation and it makes nearly the perfect undertone for me.

I really need to tone down the amount of foundation I use. It's so hard because I have redness and I'm covered in freckles so I feel like no matter what foundation I use, I need more than most to get an even base. It's not that I feel like I NEED to cover my freckles but I have to to get a clean slate! I need this video from someone covered in frecklessss😭😭 But your style Allie is exactly what I want to achieve!😍

Girl you in overdone makeup kinda the best thing ever 😂❤. The big hoops make it a whole vibe lol But I’m excited for this series. I really want to relearn how to do liner cause it looks harsh and heavy so quickly and I’m 31 so my face has changed since I was in my teens doing heavy goth makeup lol. Can’t really do that anymore

Hi Ali- great video!! I'd love for you to share with us your tips and tricks to be able to find the right foundation online. You mentioned here that you're very confident now with finding your correct shade, but I feel that many of us are not that lucky.. would you consider sharing your knowledge so we know what to look for and what to avoid when choosing online? thank you!!!

Loved the idea and the video! I think the thumbnail would be more impactful if it showed a bad vs good makeup image, like at the begining and end of the video :)

I feel using a primer on my combination skin is a need because it helps control my t-zone and my oils. I also the finish it gives my skin in the process of prepping my skin for makeup. I use less foundation by including primer, so it is necessary for us combo chicks…and I’m 64 next month. My skincare is mostly Korean so I keep my skin very moist and hydrated which helps my skin look it’s best. Products can only do so much.

What do you think about applying foundation with your hands? A lot of professional make up artists do that, it warms up the product and it applies better. I LOVE this series already, thank you SO much for educating us, this is precious information ❤ For me I need to figure out how to cancel some of the under eye wrinkles & make that area stay fresh & flawless throughout the day.

Great idea for a series! When you get to eyes, could you include modifications for different shapes? I have hooded eyes with no inner corner and no outer corner, so I don’t know where to put darker shadows and eyeliner.

Thank you Allie as this series is a game changer for all ages! Skincare is truly important and I tend not use primer so I’m excited. Also I absolutely use your lipsticks everyday! Love you and excited for the next tutorial…

Other than foundation, my next biggest fear is lip products. My lips are fairly pigmented so I have never bothered much with lip products but now I feel like I want to experiment with lip products. The problem is that I feel like no matter how much of a light hand I try to have with lip liner and lipstick I feel like I look like a clown when I'm done. I'm wondering if it is because I'm just not used to myself with lipstick on. I would love love love a really detailed and close up lip class. I feel like I have kind of a double or thicker outer edge to my lips and lip products kind of seem to settle there (hope that makes some kind of sense... lol). Thank you so much for doing this series in smaller segments. To me, I makes the information a lot easier to understand. Can't wait for you next video in the series!
