Omg, I just had this experience with a friend who was in town visiting. I wanted to go to Sephora and pick up my Huda “pink” powder. She gasped and said “don’t wear powder; it will look awful on your 68 year old skin”. I looked at her, took her face in my hands and said “Look. Does my skin look awful to you?” She said no but it will if you put powder on it. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ “I’m wearing powder!” She didn’t believe me. When we got back home to my place I instructed her to remove her makeup. I “did her makeup”. She is now converted. I have an extremely oily t zone, and eyelids.

@@marygillespie2028I have very dry skin and I apply powder in my T zone makes all the difference as far as minimizing the look of pores for my 50 yr old skin. It really is a matter of preferences. If I don’t use powder, it doesn’t matter the foundation, it doesn’t last.

I really do agree. Of course studio lighting is going to make anyone look flawless. I have dry skin and it's not mature skin😂 the only place I powder is under my eyes and when using blush and bronze I use a cream and then powder and I set my face with setting spray and that works perfect. Also she just put on moisturizer what about sunscreen that also plays a role. And um what about the sunscreen under and around the eyes smh. Not everyone needs to powder there whole face especially if you have dry skin😂😂

As a lifelong oily skin gal, I can't imagine NOT having and using powder regularly. Even days when I don't wear foundation I'll often still use some powder. And modern formulations are amazing! Even now at 53 years of age, I continue to have oily skin and must add multiple layers of powders and setting spray to control the shine. A young lady at Sephora complimented me on my "dewy glow" when I was shopping there one day and I had to fight every impulse to immediately reach for the powder, LOL! The "dewy" look is literaly what I've spent my entire life trying to avoid, LOL! I really did appreciate her compliment though. She was absolutely lovely and made my day.

A damp sponge helps to melt the product into your skin, and can absorb excess powder. I'm a dry skin girl, and I usually will use a puff to apply my powder, dust off excess with a brush, and then use a damp sponge to help with melting it into the skin.

I'm 62 and have very dry skin. Even the Givenchy Prism Libre powder with a Wayne Goss brush will make my under-eyes look wrinkled and old - no matter how little powder I use. I've been doing your "sandwich" method or something similar for years. It's even worse with a puff. I can use the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless setting powder in my t-zone, but NO POWDER under my eyes has worked in the last 10 years.

Moisturizer under the eyes is a must. That said, no technique is going to blur wrinkles. Even young skin has wrinkles that crease. The key is to tap as much of the creases out before setting with powder. I’m 62 & have come to accept that nothing is going to make my under eyes look smooth again. Sometimes I just don’t set my concealer with powder & use setting spray instead. Sometimes I don’t use either powder or setting spray on my under eyes and just tap out the creases throughout the day

I have very dry skin too. I use a nice emollient under eye cream, let it sink in and then use a tiny dot of the It Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye Illumination, pat out the creases and it sets itself. No powder works on my undereye either.

Powder is not needed for dry skin at all like YT gurus teach us. We have different longevity without producing sebum so it really depends on individual case. I used to almost never put powder on dry skin clients, their make up still held brilliantly. You can use other techniques to make sure it's long lasting. Like stamping dry sponge all over with a quite a bit force to really work it into skin or taking of excess foundation with half tissue, using different foundations for different face areas, using setting spray ( I used dewy nyx spray and it worked excellently). Also taking the residue that is left from skincare is important in some cases. It can interfere with longevity. I generally hate powder, I almost never use it on myself especially in the winter. It's the most unforgiving season for powder 😅

After watching your videos, I started using a sponge to set my foundation with good results. Months later, I added setting spray and sponge to set it. I now use powder and the "sandwich" technique. I love how my makeup looks now, especially under the eyes where age can show. Thank you, Allie, for all your tips/techniques. They do make a big difference

I have figured out how to wear powder for my oils but also not make my dry areas look meh. so first putty primer and then whatever else i do. it depends on the day. if i put something like concealer for example i'll set it by tapping off the excess on a puff. i use a pressed powder. if i dont wanna put anything, i'll just sweep powder over my face lightly. then eyeshadow if i want and whatever else. 2 thin layers of all nighter spray from urban decay (make sure it is fully dry). next i powder my face again with a brush (smaller for around the t zone and bigger for the rest of my face). lastly some boy brow and lips. this is how I make my skin look pretty good and last all day. my skin gets cranky sometimes around my acne so i keep in mind that most people aren't gunna be really close. i watch robert welsh and every time i hear him say that you don't need powder im like bro some of us do. trust me i will not look shiny but touching my face will tell you im very oily.

Allie, is the sponge dry or damp when you are using it to press the powder into your skin? I fall into the "terrified of powder" category. I am on the hunt for a self-setting concealer, so I don't need to use powder under my eyes. Based on your video, I will start experimenting using powder. It seems like it either looks too dry or, in the Summer when I need it to mattify, it looks sludgy. I will try to find that sweet spot by experimenting. 😊

I am 51. I wear mostly powder. I try liquid foundation once in a while but always come back to powder. My favorite is Physician’s Formula Mineral Wear loose powder. I call it my red eraser. I stroke it on with a brush and it erases the red cheeks I have. I let it set a while and retouch for maximum effect ( the redness gone and a bit of mineral shimmer). I have normal skin, no acne ever, and a bit on the dry side in winter. When applying powder, I do layers and if I can I like to have a tiny bit of moisture on my skin to grab the minerals and make a glowy finish. Can’t describe that better. I use a moisturizer a few times a week, but nothing else. My profile picture is five years old lol I need to change it. 😅

Great content! But I have one question. Is your sponge dry or dampened?⭐️

I'm afraid of brow pens like the NYX lift and snatch. I have a chunk of my eyebrow that is missing because of scar tissue. Brow pens seem to be the only thing that works on scar tissue. But everytime I try it the end result just looks super bold and drawn on

Hi Allie, gorgeous as always! I wanted to ask if this method works with powder foundation in the same way? I prefer a powder foundation.

Hi Allie, great video but did you put the moisturizer OVER sunscreen? That's always been my conundrum because I put my sunscreen on last (after all other skincare) then start with makeup, concealer, etc...

At 59, I have learned less is more, strategically done. I have normal to dry skin; I use my heavyweight moisturize at night, that way I can use a lighter one during the day, and it helps diffuse the powder situation.

I’ve been loving the ELF stay all night setting spray! It really does make my makeup last! I have mainly dry skin I would say 😊 And it has a great mister

Also I have found this time of year when my skin is more dry… putting a drop or two or the good molecules facial oil in with my moisturizer really helps with keeping moisturized through the day. My Foundation lays beautifully over it 😊

Hi Allie! Love your videos, thank you so much for another amazing video. I’m 27 but I have a really dry under eye area, and I think because of that I crease a lot there. Immediately after applying concealer it creases, and as mist and I try to remove the product in the fine lines, and apply powder, it always looks creasy… any extra tips?

Hi Allie! Have you ever tried the Kimchi Chic lavender powder to brighten up the under eyes?? Kevin and Johnny from the Beautiful and Bothered podcast turned me onto it and HOLY MOLY is it beautiful!!

Is your beauty blender sponge damp when you press in? Maybe I am keeping mine too wet - it seems to take off the product when I try to press things in
