Omg, I just had this experience with a friend who was in town visiting. I wanted to go to Sephora and pick up my Huda “pink” powder. She gasped and said “don’t wear powder; it will look awful on your 68 year old skin”. I looked at her, took her face in my hands and said “Look. Does my skin look awful to you?” She said no but it will if you put powder on it. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ “I’m wearing powder!” She didn’t believe me. When we got back home to my place I instructed her to remove her makeup. I “did her makeup”. She is now converted. I have an extremely oily t zone, and eyelids.

@@marygillespie2028I have very dry skin and I apply powder in my T zone makes all the difference as far as minimizing the look of pores for my 50 yr old skin. It really is a matter of preferences. If I don’t use powder, it doesn’t matter the foundation, it doesn’t last.

I really do agree. Of course studio lighting is going to make anyone look flawless. I have dry skin and it's not mature skin😂 the only place I powder is under my eyes and when using blush and bronze I use a cream and then powder and I set my face with setting spray and that works perfect. Also she just put on moisturizer what about sunscreen that also plays a role. And um what about the sunscreen under and around the eyes smh. Not everyone needs to powder there whole face especially if you have dry skin😂😂

As a lifelong oily skin gal, I can't imagine NOT having and using powder regularly. Even days when I don't wear foundation I'll often still use some powder. And modern formulations are amazing! Even now at 53 years of age, I continue to have oily skin and must add multiple layers of powders and setting spray to control the shine. A young lady at Sephora complimented me on my "dewy glow" when I was shopping there one day and I had to fight every impulse to immediately reach for the powder, LOL! The "dewy" look is literaly what I've spent my entire life trying to avoid, LOL! I really did appreciate her compliment though. She was absolutely lovely and made my day.

A damp sponge helps to melt the product into your skin, and can absorb excess powder. I'm a dry skin girl, and I usually will use a puff to apply my powder, dust off excess with a brush, and then use a damp sponge to help with melting it into the skin.

When it comes to skin prep, I find that dermaplaning often also helps! It takes away the peach fuzz that the powder can cling onto! It will sit smoother on the skin (for liquid and cream products as well).

I have figured out how to wear powder for my oils but also not make my dry areas look meh. so first putty primer and then whatever else i do. it depends on the day. if i put something like concealer for example i'll set it by tapping off the excess on a puff. i use a pressed powder. if i dont wanna put anything, i'll just sweep powder over my face lightly. then eyeshadow if i want and whatever else. 2 thin layers of all nighter spray from urban decay (make sure it is fully dry). next i powder my face again with a brush (smaller for around the t zone and bigger for the rest of my face). lastly some boy brow and lips. this is how I make my skin look pretty good and last all day. my skin gets cranky sometimes around my acne so i keep in mind that most people aren't gunna be really close. i watch robert welsh and every time i hear him say that you don't need powder im like bro some of us do. trust me i will not look shiny but touching my face will tell you im very oily.

I'm 62 and have very dry skin. Even the Givenchy Prism Libre powder with a Wayne Goss brush will make my under-eyes look wrinkled and old - no matter how little powder I use. I've been doing your "sandwich" method or something similar for years. It's even worse with a puff. Moisturizer under the eyes is a must. That said, no technique is going to blur wrinkles. Even young skin has wrinkles that crease. The key is to tap as much of the creases out before setting with powder. I’m 62 & have come to accept that nothing is going to make my under eyes look smooth again. Sometimes I just don’t set my concealer with powder & use setting spray instead. Sometimes I don’t use either powder or setting spray on my under eyes and just tap out the creases throughout the day

I have very dry skin too. I use a nice emollient under eye cream, let it sink in and then use a tiny dot of the It Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye Illumination, pat out the creases and it sets itself. No powder works on my undereye either.

Powder is not needed for dry skin at all like YT gurus teach us. We have different longevity without producing sebum so it really depends on individual case. I used to almost never put powder on dry skin clients, their make up still held brilliantly. You can use other techniques to make sure it's long lasting. Like stamping dry sponge all over with a quite a bit force to really work it into skin or taking of excess foundation with half tissue, using different foundations for different face areas, using setting spray ( I used dewy nyx spray and it worked excellently). Also taking the residue that is left from skincare is important in some cases. It can interfere with longevity. I generally hate powder, I almost never use it on myself especially in the winter. It's the most unforgiving season for powder 😅

I am 51. I wear mostly powder. I try liquid foundation once in a while but always come back to powder. My favorite is Physician’s Formula Mineral Wear loose powder. I call it my red eraser. I stroke it on with a brush and it erases the red cheeks I have. I let it set a while and retouch for maximum effect ( the redness gone and a bit of mineral shimmer). I have normal skin, no acne ever, and a bit on the dry side in winter. When applying powder, I do layers and if I can I like to have a tiny bit of moisture on my skin to grab the minerals and make a glowy finish. Can’t describe that better. I use a moisturizer a few times a week, but nothing else. My profile picture is five years old lol I need to change it. 😅

My skin is really oily but my undereyes are super dry. I only press powder on the sides of my nose, avoiding the eye area. Then I use a fluffy brush to just dust a little powder on top of my hydrating concealer to make it last. Using a thicker eye cream is key for me and a hydrating face mist before and after powder also makes all the difference.

SAME!! Suddenly, in the last year, no matter how hydrated my under eyes were, the concealer that I used, or powder I used I looked 20 years older every time! I'd re-do my under-eyes constantly before finishing my makeup and started to get anxious about wearing makeup because of that... and I LOVE MAKEUP! After trying over a dozen different concealers (probably more actually) and different pressed and loose powders.. I was just so frustrated and down. 😢 With Sephora's October VIB sale.. Allie, is the sponge dry or damp when you are using it to press the powder into your skin? I fall into the "terrified of powder" category. I am on the hunt for a self-setting concealer, so I don't need to use powder under my eyes. Based on your video, I will start experimenting using powder. It seems like it either looks too dry or, in the Summer when I need it to mattify, it looks sludgy. I will try to find that sweet spot by experimenting. 😊

Also I have found this time of year when my skin is more dry… putting a drop or two or the good molecules facial oil in with my moisturizer really helps with keeping moisturized through the day. My Foundation lays beautifully over it 😊

Allie, your tips are flawless! Since following your powdering tips, my makeup lasts and looks great for hours, even after dancing for four hours. Thank you! ❤😘 My favorites are HUDA (Cupcake) and Rimmel Stay Matte (003 Natural).

This is totally true for me I’ve been scared of powder. Dry skin girly totally afraid of looking dusty and crusty. But I will say the last two weeks I e been trying out suing a powder full and Huda beauty powder. Still trying to learn how best to use on my skin

Does using a sunscreen prior to your foundation change the steps you mentioned? Could you do a tips video on getting the longevity of your cream and powder eyeshadows?

Yes! I’ve been watching you since 2019 and have been using powder ever since. People will always compliment how great it looks on my face!! It didn’t even cross my mind that people don’t use powder because it’s such a staple for me

Yeah I'm REALLY scared of powder. I got the Elf one that's pretty good and I apply a little under the eyes after concealer, but other than that I've always been pretty scared of it, so I'm taking notes here and I'm gonna try to use it more.

Hi Allie - what did you use for the blush? Not in the list and loved how it looked on the lips. Also, what is the double ended silver handle brush that you use, I love it and would love to purchase it. Merry Christmas, thank you for everything you gave this year!

Hi Allie! Have you ever tried the Kimchi Chic lavender powder to brighten up the under eyes?? Kevin and Johnny from the Beautiful and Bothered podcast turned me onto it and HOLY MOLY is it beautiful!!

Hi Allie, gorgeous as always! I wanted to ask if this method works with powder foundation in the same way? I prefer a powder foundation.

I use powders every single time I do my makeup. I love loose powder currently looking for a new loose powder to try out because I’m out of my old one and I love the L’Oréal infallible 24h fresh wear foundation pressed powder. I also love powder blush my favorite is Milani blush and I love powder bronzer but I’m currently looking for a new bronzer to try out because right now I’m trying to try out new products and expand the makeup I like. I also want to try creams because I’ve always been kinda scared of creams because when I was younger before I had my kids my skin was super super oily but now my skin has changed some after having kids my skin can get dry in some areas of my face but my T zone gets oily but not nearly as bad as it used to when I was younger. I mean I am young still I’m 27 that’s not old but my skin has definitely changed since having kids in my early 20s.

Thank you, Allie. This is very helpful, but when would you use finishing powder instead of or in addition to loose setting powder?

Hi Allie! Love your videos, thank you so much for another amazing video. I’m 27 but I have a really dry under eye area, and I think because of that I crease a lot there. Immediately after applying concealer it creases, and as mist and I try to remove the product in the fine lines, and apply powder, it always looks creasy… any extra tips?

I used to always use powder. It really, really doesn't work for me anymore. I don't think anything in this video is different than what I have tried in the past. I will continue to skip powder and that's okay. What works for some people might not work for others.

Hi Allie, great video but did you put the moisturizer OVER sunscreen? That's always been my conundrum because I put my sunscreen on last (after all other skincare) then start with makeup, concealer, etc...
