I'm a Theta in a college up north and it's just so crazy how different sororities are between the north and the south. Like our rush is only 4 days and our pledge classes are only like 50 girls so I can completely imagine how overwhelming and different it is. Even without a sorority you're going to make so many new friends and have such great experiences!!! Enjoy it bc it goes by WAYY to fast!

Hey, I went to UGA ('16) and I was in a sorority. I respect your decision to drop. I went through rush and I did not end up getting the house I wanted. I ugly cried after bid day. Five years later, I can't imagine college without some of the incredible women I met. I think you would have done well in AGD, ADPI, AChiO, or KD, maybe ChiO. That aside you should look into Gamma Sigma Sigma (non-panhellenic). Other tips: 1) the football games are amazing (so is tailgating, students also dress up for games), 2) unless starving I recommend only one plate of balanced food from the dining hall especially Bolton (which was my fav to grab lunch in) to avoid freshmen fifteen, 3) professors especially in large classes (or small) love when you go to office hours, 4) professors can tell if the entire class spent the night downtown. Professor "why are you all so quiet today?" Student *drinking yellow gatorade* "it's Friday" Professor "are you telling me you're all hungover right now?" Have a great time at UGA! GO DAWGS!

Wow, your story sounds like my daughter's too. I hope your first year went well. My daughter ended up joining a Christian sorority instead, and she has loved it. There are so many good options at UGA! She, too, was exhausted but glad to meet so many great girls during rush. Blessings to you!

I told myself earlier that whenever I get into college, I would join a sorority group but then decided not to because I didn't feel like it was a right thing for me. I'm happy that you choose that decision to feel comfortable about what you believe that was right for you! Thank you for all of the videos!😊

ekonomosu I don't know how it is at every school for every sorority, but mine has girls joining that we're juniors and seniors. It's definitely less common but it still happens. If they like you and really want you to join, I don't think they will care that you'll only be there for 1-2 years

UGA has Sigma Alpha Omega, which is a Christian sorority that one of my best friends is in and she absolutely loves it!!! they have bible studies and stuff, and lots of them, so it fits your schedule. They also have date nights and things that a Panhellenic sorority would have. Also it's cheaper. Their rush is soon and it's free so definitely check it out!!

I'm really glad you trusted yourself enough to realize that it wasn't right for you beforehand because I know a lot of girls who feel that way but are too scared to act on it and by the time they drop it's more awkward since you know them on a personal level

Feeling uncomfortable on bid day is extremely normal just fyi. Everyone expects it to be the best day of your life and to immediately feel at home, but making friends take times, I cried some nights during my new member experience cause I questioned if it was the place for me. Its fine that you dropped but you not feeling right is also a very normal feeling.

I just want to say I did the same thing as you where I dropped after I got my bid and everything and it was one of the best decisions I ever made - with nothing against any of the sororities. I also just felt like it wasn't for me and now as a rising sophomore I don't regret my decision at all. A lot of my friends joined the sorority and they love it but I realized it wasn't for me so I am in the exact same boat as you and this video made me feel a lot better and not out of place

I have an "older sister" who just transferred to UGA this year. She's a sophomore and last year she went to play lacrosse in Tennessee but transferred to UGA this year. My mom was a Tri Delta and wrote her a recommendation letter. But she had the same experience. Her top choice was Kappa Delta and they didn't choose her sadly:( she found out she was being fake and she realized it wasn't for her. I'm really glad you've found your true colors through all of this!

I tried rushing when I was a freshman and dropped the second day. I also called my parents crying lol. I even tried again later on trying to be in one cause I loved the idea of it but it was never right for me. Don't worry about not being in one, I made great friends in college and none of were in a sorority even.

I'm finishing up my freshman year of college and i was never interested in joining a sorority. Not even in high school. I was always bullied in hs and the stereotypical portrayal of sororities from movies had closed me off completely. My college's sororities had the mask that they were nothing like that but a lot of the girls who joined who very bithcy and rude outside of sorority events. I don't have anything against people who join sororities, you do you, as long as youre nice to me, ill be nice to you. Sororities just aren't for me.

18 sororities - wow. Makes me happy I went to a smaller division 2 college. We only had 4 sorority on campus. I can just imagine what a pain in the butt it was to drop. The sororities also drop rushee the same time you are making your decisions.

Actually your recruitment counselor can speak to people in their sorority. At my school my best friend is currently a rho chi (what we call them) and we live together so she can't not talk to me for a month. We have strict silence one day out of the year and even then me and her simply can't talk to each their about recruitment anything else is fair game.
