Kaitlin Donmoyer yes if they follow the rules, but that doesn’t mean you’ll end up in the one you liked best
@IlanaPinsky6 жыл бұрын
Kaitlin Donmoyer not necessarily. Even if they follow the rules, some girls do get cut from recruitment and don't get a bid at all. It happened to me my freshmen year and got cut before the 3rd round. I tried again my sophomore year and found my home. It can be pretty cutthroat and competitive sometimes.
@jofunk83926 жыл бұрын
Ilana Pinsky it depends on your school! Like Kathryn said above, my school and a lot of schools guarantee a bid from one if you follow the rules. But it just depends where you go

It's a weird rule. That didn't exist at the University I went to. We used names.
@gearsandsteam15 жыл бұрын
It definitely is strange. That was not a rule at my university. But my university was so small that you probably knew some of the girls in the different sororities anyway. Also the whole no talking to any affiliated girls is definitely odd. During recruitment we were told that you cannot give potential new members advice on which sorority they pick or express opinions about the other sororities.
@filmfrenzie17265 жыл бұрын
It’s probably hard for them to keep up with all of those girls
@joyfuljaj5 жыл бұрын
I had never heard that at any other colleges or from any of the girls I was in college with. I would be interested to know why that rule would exist, or whether these girls misunderstood what they were told about differentiating themselves from others with their outfits. I have noticed different rules throughout a lot of these videos. For instance, between parties, most girls will go back to their room or do whatever they want, while at one school the girl mentioned they all had to go to one building and sit in silence until all the parties were done.

For everyone asking what a sorority is, it is basically a large organization that raises money for a specific philanthropy (or charity). I am not sure what Chi Omega's is, but I will use mine for example. I was a Delta Gamma and our philanthropy is Service for Sight. So, any women who is a Delta Gamma helped raise money to help those who had visual impairments (blind, glasses, etc.). Although our main purpose is to raise money for our philanthropy, there were a lot of other fun aspects to being in a sorority. We had socials (with fraternities), date parties and formals (like college prom or homecoming). We could hold leadership positions (which helped us gain experience in a leadership role). If you are a female you can join a sorority and if you are a male you can join a fraternity (all together you guys are called Greek Life). Although being in a sorority isn't for everyone, there are a lot of great benefits from it. Hopefully this helps! Feel free to ask any further questions about it

Can you mix girls and boys in one "group"? And also does each person in the group has to go through what they call "hazing". And how long do you have to stay in the group? If for example, you don't want to be in the sorority anymore, is it easy to leave or do you have to go A process? I grew up knowing that fraternities/sororities are bad, but I also wonder why are they mostly held at school grounds. I apologize for the many questions.
@camrontaylor63996 жыл бұрын
had no clue but i totally get it now
@bcd34966 жыл бұрын
chase nicole Girls can only get into sororities and boys can only get into fraternities, but they can “come together” at things called socials/mixers where one sorority will have a party with a fraternity. As for hazing, almost all universities now have a zero tolerance policy on hazing. Unfortunately, it does still happen however. It happened a lot with the fraternities at my school. However, there are also a lot of sororities/fraternities that take the zero tolerance policy very seriously and don’t haze at all. And, you can leave your sorority or fraternity whenever you want/need to. I’m not sure of the process at every sorority, but I think you just have to sign some papers and let your organization know you want to drop out of it.
@bcd34966 жыл бұрын
Mica miczful And, don’t apologize! I’m happy to answer any question. I was in my sorority for 4 years and learned a lot. A lot of media platforms portray Greek life in a negative way and while sometimes that’s true, it is not always that way

As someone in a multicultural sorority, all Greek life is amazing, it’s what you make out of it. Definitely out of respect to all organizations it’s important to learn the Greek alphabet so you don’t mispronounce anyone’s letters and have mutual respect for one another. Definitely make friends from different councils, don’t be afraid to go to other sororities events to go and support other councils. Your grades always come first! Always put academics before sorority stuff, something people in Greek get lost is the idea that you’re there to get a degree first, your sorority won’t give you that degree. Don’t be afraid to speak up if you see something wrong or something makes you uncomfortable. But most importantly be safe and have, and definitely stay true to yourselves.

Fair warning. The sorority process is not all smiles and giggles. It can be hard looking at how “happy” girls who rush and join are. At least it’s hard for me. It can fool you into thinking “hey. Those girls look happy. I want to be that happy. So maybe i should join a sorority like them and i can be happy too”. It doesn’t always workout like that. The rush process is stressful and can hype you up to a let down. The most common example is your favorite house dropping you which leads you to question yourself and wonder “why am i not good enough to get into XYZ sorority” which brings you down a path of tearing yourself apart. Then there’s sorority rankings which can sway your decision. Idk. Just fair warning. The sorority process is a rollercoaster. Don’t expect “all good times all the time”

I agree. This video brought up a lot of memories and emotions for me. Rush is exciting and fun, but also can really tear you down. They were probably heavily recruited due to being somewhat famous KZbinrs.

Basically my process when I was at Baylor. The sororities I made the most connections with didn’t even pick me in the final rounds and the ones where I barely knew anyone did. I ended up not being able to join a sorority for financial reasons that occurred that year because the bid was too expensive for my family but I did other organizations instead. You don’t have to be in a sorority or fraternity to be happy at Baylor or at any university for that matter.
@winonadaphne64456 жыл бұрын
@@andsings13 what do you mean by bid being to expensive? you have to pay to be in a sorority?
@bludelight6 жыл бұрын
@@winonadaphne6445 Oh yeah, you have to pay a lot. Particularly with this council (governing body over the sororities) where housing can be included in your overall fees if you move into the sorority house. It could cost at least $2000 to start out. I'm not from the US but I hope you understand my way of explaining it without really living this reality. So, a Sorority is kind of a family of girls who meet in college. In a university there are lots of sororities, and they are represented by the letters of the greek alphabet. In a person's freshman year in college, girls can rush for a sorority, and boys for a fraternity (it's optional), and once they get into their desired sorority or fraternity, they become a big happy old "family" (this has been a thing for centuries in the US now). It's kind of an interesting concept, except for when of course the person doesn't get in the one they want. But sorry, I'm curious, where are you from? "Da Silva" is a portuguese last name very common here in Brazil.

What the benefits for joining a sorority?
@bradleybordenave43085 жыл бұрын
@@usamarafieck1715 The benefits of joining an organization is experience, teamwork, leadership, and networking. You can definitely use an organization as experience such as Vice president or President of a organization looks good on a resume. At the end of the day a greek organization is a business and needs money to operate so being able to practice that during college is very helpful in your career. Again practicing leadership and greek organizations usually have a conference or something along the lines where you can learn about leadership skills. Finally networking, networking is just as important as a degree these days and knowing the right people can start your career and help you get experience before you leave college.

little piece of advice... KNOW THAT SORORITIES ARE A CONTRACT. I joined and signed whatever they threw at me. Now when I am being unfairly fined $25+ for not signing an agreement because I was on a special leave, they tell me I must pay it because it was in my contract. if i don't pay i go to collections. READ EVERYTHING make sure you understand the liabilities you have.

The whole Greek thing is such a foreign concept to me. Can someone explain what the point of it all is? No hate, just confused. I live in New Zealand and we don't have anything like this at University.
@jewel77846 жыл бұрын
sororities are basically all-female groups that raise money for specific organizations as well as hosts social events. for example, i was in Phi Sigma Sigma and we raised money for Kids In Need, to provide school supplies to impoverished children. our social events included crush parties (you can anonymously or not anonymously "crush" someone, basically you'd write down the contact info for a guy you want to bring to the party, and the social chair of our sorority sent the invites out to everyone who was "crushed"), semi-formal and formal (more formal parties, once during fall and once during spring semester), and just regular themed parties at clubs in the city or in our sorority house (we had a 90s themed one, a Shipwrecked theme, a Top Gun theme, etc). and we have a week dedicated to raising money for our philanthropy, though we volunteer individually throughout the year. we also have Greek Week, meaning groups from every social sorority and fraternity create skits that we perform. Greek life can be Panhellenic (girls)/Inter-Fraternity Council (guys), business/professional, and even race-oriented (like Asian-interest sororities).
@jessielarking59096 жыл бұрын
@@jewel7784 Wow I had no idea they raise money for charity, the only exposure I've had to all that is in movies and it just looks like all they do is drink and sleep around and be bitchy to each other. And obviously Brooklyn and Bailey aren't like that so I wondered why they wanted to be in a sorority. Thanks for explaining.
@jewel77846 жыл бұрын
@@jessielarking5909 yeah, but to be completely honest, sororities tend to emphasize the social aspect of membership though. philanthropy should be the main focus, but often sorority members get caught up in the benefits of being able to go to exclusive parties, date or befriend fraternity men, and just be part of the "prestige," if you will. a lot of it is pretty clique-y and annoying. i got lucky because my sorority had a reputation on campus for having the most genuine girls and sisterhood. i felt like i had a really great group of friends and still had other not-so-close girls in my sorority i knew i could count on if i needed them. a lot of us never even prioritized dating, and definitely didn't feel like we needed to sleep around or date exclusively fraternity guys. we did a lot of sisterhood events and hangouts with just us girls, and did all our philanthropy events together. movies tend to rely on the "party all day, drunk all night" stereotype of Greek life, and i can't say they're not wrong, but it really differs from school to school and from sorority to sorority. no worries! i'm always happy to explain further.

Some sororities fraternities pronounce their letters like ancient Greeks would because that's what it's based on, but sometimes it depends on the school or chapter too
@multifandomstudios98785 жыл бұрын
Katie Shanks Yep honey we do ancient Greek in school and that's again a wrong way to pronounce it. Anyway modern Greek characters are read exactly the same as the ancient characters do. So again it doesn't make sense. Also they keep telling that Σ is like E but that's a whole different letter and it's not even a vowel. I'm pretty sure I know my language well enough to read characters

A lot of people join sororities to make new friends and get to know people around the school! Also, fraternities are pretty much the same thing but for guys!:)
