The University of Florida Gators used to have a giant gator prop on the sidelines at home games. It was said to be a donated prop from this movie.

Practical effects are what have made Alligator (1980) and Jaws (1975) and Tremors (1990) the three of them the greatest monster movies ever created as well:).

The film that stopped me from going into our swimming pool in Florida at night. Especially the diving board.

Yup! I'll never forget that particular scene when the mom turns on the pool lights and to see the alligator opening his mouth under the water right before the kid falls in. _Yeesh!_

@@TheRealNormanBates That was the scene. No more night swimming for me as a kid. Wouldn’t even go near the pool at night.

Awesome! I rewatched the movie quite recently, and it's entertaining. I just love these old practical effects.

Thanks. I forgot that Pete Gerard talked about this movie in the interview we did. Found it again and edited it together. Fun cult movie.

I remember this movie very well, because I was 9 years old when this movie came out, and it scared me pretty good!

Ah, saw this movie when I was kid back in the 80's and it's been giving me nightmares for the past 40 something years. So yeah, the effects worked. Bravo!

I only saw this film once (in the theater). I still remember Henry Silva's character examining a turd the gator left and saying "Wow, he's a BIG one!!" The audience got a kick out of that. Thank you for the insight on the fx for this!

Fun movie. Lake Placid is another good one. Nowadays when they do giant alligators it's unconvincing cg animation. Alligator despite it's age beats all of em, aside from Lake Placid I suppose

Stan Winston's company did the gator for Lake Placid.

Love the movie, love the interview, just wish it was longer! I'll have to check the DVD (in storage) to see if this is on there. I am 50 now and that shot of the alligator in the pool when the light comes on still has so much power over me. I saw Jaws when I was about 5 or 6 and started a lifelong fear of not seeing what is in the water I am swimming in, and then this came out and that pool shot still haunts me, and a lot of other people. It shows how well this was made, and I still love it. Thanks mate!

This isn't on the DVD. It's part of my Sense of Scale documentary about film industry model makers.
