It looks like the clear coat paint system that is used today, in a way it is almost too perfect to make the tractor original, but, the work is great.

That one looks too nice to get dirty! First time I've seen a D-17 with a diesel. All the gas ones were 4 cylinder, only ever saw a 6 cylinder in the D-19.

The engines in the D-17 were derived from those in the WD-45, including 4 cylinder gas, 4 cylinder LP, and the Buda 6 cylinder diesel.

The D 17 was a good three plow tractor where I lived in Minnesota. on light soil it might handle a four 14 inch plow, but, I think that is stretching it. The hi low range system provided the live power for the pto, since they did not have an independent live power. It was a great tractor on the baler, you could just slow it down without shiftting if you hit a slug of hay, and, then go back to the faster speed, That also worked nice on headlands when you plowed, no shifting, just use the hand clutch to go fast on the headlands, and, back to the slower speed for plowing.
