The moment Allison started talking about the triple axel I got excited.... until I realised Ellen and the rest of the audience didn't appear to share the same sentiment... Figure Skating is such a minor sport compared to sports like baseball..... triple axel is really hard...
@M.Elle-6 жыл бұрын
kristy park This is true. Figure skating is a sport and a true art. I was a figure skater for 15 years (fully retired at 21) and unless someone is an athlete, they have 0 understanding of how difficult skating actually is. The balance, the techniques and even the training is grueling. The triple axel is a hell of a lot harder (and dangerous) to land than it looks like. I Landing it perfectly and without the slightest of tip balance is pretty incredible. Tonya will always be the first American woman to do it in a competition and succeed.

Public record, she's mentioned it in other interviews. The entire film was shot in 30-32 days, so about six weeks (with weekends). But they did all of her coverage in just 10 days/two weeks. Pre and post production was a lot longer of course but I think the film turned out so well!

it's crazy how the media can manipulate everyone. it's such a terrible shame and loss for what happened to tonya she was the greatest and still is. it's sad how evil disgusting people stole her life I mean as she said and we can clearly see she has no place to go and her life was terrible and only ice skating help her, her own sort of escape her LIFE. ALL her life she trained hard,work hard and the end it went away. I hope jeff and all the nasty people behind it rot in hell.

I have no prior knowledge of Tonya before this interview on Ellen promoting the movie, but I do know that all 'villians' are complex individuals and its one of the reasons I tend to favor them more than the 'heroes', from both a fictional and real life stand point. Most of it stems from relations with my own mother, which I can relate, because she wasn't a nice person but she had a lot of shit thrown at her from a young age and it never stopped. It was tough growing up with a woman so closed off to love and yet I never faulted her for a second because I could see the pain she had to endure. And it only made me love her more. People aren't always what you see on the surface. I'm intrigued about Tonya and this portrayal, I'll do the research but I also can't wait to see this movie. Thank you for your perspective, Ellen 💖

TsubakiiHime I love your comment..it shows that you show compassion instead of anger or hate towards people that are mean or angry or is the villain,cuz sometimes the person that is mean or the bad guy,is actually deep down hurt inside and what they really need is a love and understanding,reminds me of that Disney "Moana"..lol,sorry for that clicheness..but also that's sometimes how I get too..when everyone is hating on someone,I feel bad for them,and choose their side..kinda like how I rather choose the underdog..sorry I'm just blabbin,but I love your comment,everyone deserves to be loved,everyone,even the villain

I have loved this woman ever since I saw her in the movie "10 things I hate about you." It was a small role as the guidance counselor but she was so funny and memorable. The same thing in "drop dead gorgeous", where she plays Kirsten Dunst's neighbor. She is really great in the movie, you wont recognize it's the same woman. lol I am so glad Tonya is getting some light shone on the horrible people around her at that time, they are quite the most repulsive, dishonest and {because they were so stupid} very dangerous. These people really thought they were real players and lived in a fantasy world. If you see ANY interviews from the Lillehammer Olympics at the time and she is ALL about skating, lets not forget this girl was world class and she was confident, I think all real champions are. This was all about her husband getting rich from her success, and his fat friend who is so delusional he acts like he is in the CIA, you can find BOTH these creatures on You Tube, take a look and you will see. The actors who played them were great in this but when you see and hear the real people, they were holding back!, it is THAT obvious. Tonya deserves some real understanding now all this is out there, she must have had a terrible life after her husband and cronies were finished. She deserves the love she lost then and she deserves the respect of her achievements in her life as a skater. I hope she is at last getting at least some understanding, the more people who see this movie the more people will see hoe misjudged she was. Bless you Tonya, OH and Allison Janney is terrific in the movie, If you haven't seen it just wait, she deserves the Oscar.

I'm glad I watched "I, Tonya". It's upsetting to watch due to all the physical and emotional abuse she took, but there was some brilliant acting in it from all cast members, with the odd laughable moment which lifted the mood, and it really captures a young girl with a feisty attitude who really fought and earned her place in the national skating team. It doesn't paint her as either a villain or a victim, she gives as good as she gets, but yeah..... if the portrayal of domestic and familial abuse doesn't turn you off, the movie is really worth watching. Allison Janney is so deserving of that Golden Globe this year. It must have been really horrible immersing herself into a character who's based on such a miserable person in real life. Glad Tonya appreciated the film, it would have been pretty disheartening to have a biopic about you come across as false. I have a lot more sympathy for her now having watched "I, Tonya", and I'd suggest watching ESPN's sports documentary "The Price of Gold" as well if you really want to get the full picture.

pics yes she did they took everthing skating away from her. She was left with barely anything. Nancy Kerrigan on the otherhand became famous and probably even made more money because of it. Ask yourself would you remember Nancy Kerrigan's name for was it for Tonya Harding? I wouldn't
@gracehaven54596 жыл бұрын
I agree, If she did do it she has paid the price, which is more then most assulters get to be honest. I personally believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt, even though the evidence relatively damning. idk.. Nancy's gone on to be successful and have a nice family at least. Abusers shouldn't be glorified of course but I feel enough time has passed that we should be able to collectively move on from this, yes what happened to Nancy was terrible but at least she got better :) As for Tonya, I hope she finds peace and has a good life moving forward, it destroys you inside festering on your past abuse, I would know, I hope someday she too finds the strength to release it.

I found it very interesting that, upon bringing up Tonya's mother, Allison Janney was hesitant to call her a bad mother until Ellen jumped in and called her a horrible mother, and even after that she sort of brushed it off. They say nobody's a villain from their own point of view, it seems like Allison, perhaps in researching or meeting the woman she was playing, saw everything from her unique point of view, and she's hesitant to condemn her as an outright terrible mother. After all, tough love is a pretty big theme of the film.

agree. most of them are tainted by media who wanted to say Tonya was a monster to sell ratings. Tonya didn't need to cheat, but her husband and his fool friend are the ones who set this up. He wanted to prove his love to her by trying to send a hate/threat letter to Nancy because in his messed up mind that would show he had her back. only his friend took it the extra mile...
