I've dated this girl for over 3 years. We are no longer together, but i always had to "avoid" my trips because of her. She was never in the mood, or having money problems or was planning to do something else. I have a motorcycle and i TRULY LOVE riding to the nearby cities, discovering new places off-road and other things because motorcycle are truly economic compared to cars. After she broke up, covid came along and now, i have many many trips on paper, waiting this to be over so i can finaly enjoy things by myself. This pandemic really taught me how good and necessary our own company is.

Why do people give themselves labels? I guarantee pretty much every introvert likes to socialise but we all are different. I used to think I was introverted but I'm not! I'm not extroverted either. I choose when I'm social based on how I feel which usually I'm good being social but sometimes like me time haha. Doing things alone too, you can make friends and still speak to others!

Before I met my boyfriend, I used to do things on my own all the time. No one really understood me. I would go to the cinema alone, I would go to festivals alone, I would go for seaside walks alone and go out to dinner alone. After meeting him (and just because we're so alike), I do most things I want to do with him as my companion. However, I have done many things on my own since I was very young and that has shaped the way I am. I am so glad you posted this video. You are such a great example of how doing things on your own doesn't mean you're a lonely person. It just means you're not on this Earth to waste your time and wait. You go, girl.

YES!!! I'm an older guy, and can't think of anybody who would want to do some of the things I want to do. I took a sea plane to Dry Tortugas; day hiked in each state on the Appalachian trail; sketched in 50 places in New Mexico (home state); etc. I also turned my minivan into campervan this year will be taking it to Colorado this summer. Helpful hint: when you go to a restaurant by yourself tell them you are SOLO. It gets a much more positive response than "I'm by myself" they look at you all miserably. You take charge of it basically.

i actually travelled for 5 years, through 4 continents alone. Travelling alone is one of the best ways of growing as an individual. You truly open yourself up to the world and make yourself vulnerable (in a good way) and approachable to the world. You feel like Nick in Great Gatsby, just along for the ride, and Ive had so many incredibly strange and wild experiences because I've been alone. When you're in a group or even in a pair, you reduce your chances of experiencing spontaneous adventures by more than 50%, I would say. Travelling alone is severely underrated. And it's not lonely either- I would meet 10+ people a day alone, whereas in a couple or group I would only ever really talk to the people in my party..

I grew up in Vietnam doing everything alone. no friend, siblings got their life, parents always work...it was peaceful, slow and calm...it's very lonely and I hated it. in my option, not many people understand the true meaning of the word (alone) it is not something I want to experience again. I met a woman who grew up just like me we are now best friend, and she gave me beautiful children we always do things together and we enjoy every moment of it. to me being alone sucks it's more fun when you have someone to laugh and cry with. of course, everyone live life differently so to each their own

Mid 2018, I decided I was sick of not going to the concerts and shows I wanted to because I didn't have anyone to go with. I started going solo and it is a superior concert going experience, I was able to see so many more shows once I stopped waiting for someone to agree to come along. You also don't have to worry about the time preferences or opinions or judgements of anyone else. Obviously the pandemic has affected my ability to go to shows, but I'm so excited to pick it back up!

Oh I love this video! I went to my first movie by myself... when I was 13. I struggled to make friends, but I took the plunge, and saw Iron Man and The Dark Knight. What a fantastic experience, and gave me the confidence to dine by myself, whether at cafes or restaurants. Although my travels are still small, I spent five nights in London. Yes, I got lonely. But I knew I could do it. My parents and I went to Switzerland in 2019 / 2020, and I spent a whole day going to Mt. Titlis by myself. Now I'm planning a getaway to Katoomba (Blue Mountains, Sydney) in June. Nearly everyone has no problem going to a library or fast food place by themselves. So what's the problem with museums or restaurants? The ability to spend time with yourself gives you independence: a great skill for self-employment, language learning or even moving abroad. For anyone reading this: Do it!

I love you for this video. Your take on this is evidently authentic and genuine. I really was touched by the passion that you had in your reasoning. I am someone who loved doing some things by myself such as going to movies, traveling, etc. but I sometimes fight this impression that it is sad to do so. I think a lot of that sadness comes from comparison, and/or anticipation of what society would deem "acceptable". I agree, living for yourself, and doing things by yourself should be normalized. It's an entirely different experience than doing things with other people. Both have pros and cons, but none is better than the other.
@sierram94203 жыл бұрын
Love this! I wish more women would travel solo to the point where it’s normalized. I’d love to see a video on what, if anything, you do for safety measures (not from COVID, I mean as a woman traveling alone), and how you handle the lonely moments, like eating alone. From what I’ve heard from other women, those are two big things that scare them off of solo travel.

I experienced solo traveling by accident, was traveling to Japan, which was on the top of my bucket list, with a friend and his visa took longer than expected and I had to go by myself. It was a bit frustrating, but as the first couple of days went by, I realized how much freedom I gained being solo! I like to travel light and going solo gave me the opportunity to explore on my own pace rather than being strained by a fellow traveler who decided to bring half of their wardrobe for a two-week trip!

I have bad driving anxiety and, even though I'm 27, I've never gotten my driver's license. I recently moved to a more suburban area and I'm trying to work up the courage to practice so that I can take the road test. I've been making a list of things I can do if I get it (this helps with the anxiety, to focus on the positives) and I'm adding a note about this video! This was such a great video and message. As an introvert, I’ve been doing all sorts of things by myself for a long time. I still hang out with friends occasionally but I much prefer doing things by myself. Travelling in particular is an entirely different experience when you’re alone. I connect more with my surroundings because there is nobody to chat to or distract me. I highly recommend it! I also go to gigs alone partly because none of my friends like the same music as me but it’s also easier to just see a gig and book a ticket straight away rather then coordinate and wait for people to respond by that time the tickets could be sold out if it’s a popular singer/band.

Thank you for making this video. Doing things alone is something I struggle with because I don’t necessarily enjoy it and I’m afraid of driving or flying on my own. But as I approach age 65, I realize there are so many things I want to do and places I want to go that I haven’t done because I’ve been waiting to have someone to go with me. I know that if I’m ever going to do those things, I need to consider doing them on my own but it terrifies me. Since I turned 60, I have done a few cycling trips where I have had to travel either by car or plane to get to the start of the trip, where a group of women then goes together on the tour. This is difficult, but I’m trying to get better. Having a fear of flying doesn’t help. But beyond my cycling trips, I very much want to visit the British Isles and other parts of the world. I haven’t yet mustered the courage to do it on my own, but I think the points you make in the video are exactly correct. We spend our whole lives waiting to have someone to do things with, and often that translates into us not doing them at all. Thanks for the encouragement and good for you for getting out there on your own!

I do things alone all the time. I went to France for 10 days by myself at the end of 2019 and it was great.

Really? I hated being in France because I had so much trouble communicating. And understanding the train system was very difficult for me. I will never travel again to a country where English is not widely spoken. It was just too uncomfortable.

@@Wordsmyth8 I left out that I actually speak French fluently and used to live in France so I’m sure that helped.

I'm about to travel Australia by myself. This is the first big thing I'll be doing on my own. I quit my job and said goodbye to people in my life that I've needed to let go of to grow. I've also booked a ceramics course along the way in a city I don't really know, because it's something I've always wanted to do. Two big dreams in one! Absolutely terrified, but equally excited.

I love traveling by myself. It’s my preferred mode of travel. I get to do what I want to do, eat where I want to eat, and make my own schedule. Before covid , it was hard to sync schedules with my friends or they couldn’t afford to travel. I got tired of waiting for someone to be available so I just travel by myself. It is a little embarrassing eating out by myself but I figure , these people don’t know me. I feel safe but I have been to bigger cities, I haven’t ventured off into smaller, remote areas. I look forward to more solo trips in the future.

I'm an introvert so I never really need anyone to go to anywhere, unless it's a new place for me. I'm shy so making interaction with new people is kinda hard for me. Also, I'm kind of clueless with directions. But once I'm familiar with a place, I never wait for anyone to go with me. I could never understand why people need to have someone accompanying them, either to watch a movie or going to a mall or bathroom, even. It's just beyond me. I'm glad you can experience the same thing like I do. I plan to travel around my city to capture the atmosphere around it and trying to find some city garden. I just need to overcome my shyness first because I'm not used to photographing around people. Thank you for the inspiration.

You’re one of the main reasons I started traveling alone. I fell in love with it! I always was independent but traveling is something I only did with my family. About 3 years ago I started going places by myself and wow-I never knew how amazing it would be!! Cannot wait to start traveling solo again :)

Completely agree! I started doing things on my own in mid 20s and as a result, now I'm more happy/confident in myself :). Funnily enough I've become more social too as it's easier for me to make conversation about my travels or exhibitions I've been to etc.

My favorite think to do is seeing Broadway shows by myself. I don’t have a lot of friends that are into theater and I don’t always want to drag my bf with me. It’s the most amazing experience and I love doing it! I can’t wait for Broadway to open up again!

Your video on why you started solo traveling truly changed my life. I went through a divorce in 2018 and suddenly found myself alone... a lot. But I saw that video and thought omg, she's so right, think of all the things I'm missing out on just because I'm too afraid to do it alone. So I started going to restaurants and movies alone and discovered it's really quite pleasant! Unfortunately I had to cancel my first big solo travel trip last March but I'm more resolved than ever to make up for lost time once I can. So thank you so much for normalizing solo adventures. :)

I adore your authentic enthusiasm for your solo adventures, I feel the same way about my adventures and there are definitely people who just don't get it. Different strokes for different folks! I'm just happy to have found you on the tube ❤ New this year: exploring idaho, my new home!!!

I have a very mild case of seizures, I can function normally, but it's hard to feel normal, and it's hard to feel like I have peoples approval when I go and try and do fun things. So Thankyou that was very inspiring, something I really needed to hear

Going to the cinema alone is the best. I’ve had some of my best film experiences going alone to an afternoon film. Also, would love to go Scuba diving for the first time this year

Starting my channel I do stuff by myself. My wife doesn’t like being on camera, so I do it alone, I ride coasters, go to zoos, aquariums, movies, breakfast,etc, totally agree. It’s great and I love going places with my wife but she is sometimes working. From Charleston btw. Saw you doing the biking here in this video. This year I am doing more coaster’s then I have ever done. Also we are going to Greece.

Doing things alone! It's so funny I found your video. A few years ago I started to do things alone like travel and I am only just realizing I want to go back to that. Since we keep getting locked down in my province I decided to start doing more things alone and I am having so much fun! It's hard counting on others because you never have the same schedule, you cant see people not from your household or you have different expectations of the experience.

I’ve done a lot of things solo and usually have no trouble being out and about on my own. I’ve never been to the movies by myself though - am going this week! For those worried about safety when solo traveling, I think common sense is key. Be aware of your surroundings, don’t have your most expensive lux thing out on obvious show, learn to trust your instincts - if something feels off, don’t do it.

I've been holding myself back because I thought it might be weird to do stuff alone. But like you said, why wait around for other people? If I wanna do something, I'm gonna do it even if it means I spend most of my time alone. Thank you for sharing your journey, it's really inspiring ❤️

Hey Allison, I have been a fan of yours over a decade, and I feel we have grown up together :) I am loving your solo travelling content, and you inspired me a couple of years ago to start travelling alone, and not wait for anyone. These days I mix travel with family and friends, but solo adventures are still my favorite. I will never forget you saying in one of your videos how you wanted to travel to as many countries as you can, and if you wait for your partner or friends you are limiting how many countries and places you can visit in a year :) I am still holding on to that saying, and make decisions based on that. I really wish you all the best, and keep up the good work. I hope we meet someday on one of the adventures. Greetings from Serbia.

Yas! 👏Definitely don't wait to experience things. I too traveled independently and had the best time; on my own schedule doing as much or as little as I wanted to. If friends want to join, they're more than welcome, but with so much planning involved, sometimes it's just better to go at it alone. Once we can safely travel again, I will likely take a break from work and focus on travel. As much as I don't have a huge nest egg, the last year has taught us nothing is guaranteed, so why not invest in yourself when you're young enough to do the hikes and travel far, etc. We've only got one chance at this as the person we are -- go explore the world!

I appreciate the people that want to do things solo. I am not one of them. I love being able to travel and do things with my husband, who is my best friend. I like building memories with someone else. It’s just a personal preference.

Being able to enjoy things alone is an absolute joy! I love discovering a new store in a town I lived in or visited or going out to dinner by myself I love it! I’m not embarrassed or anxious in the slightest with all that it’s just something I enjoy more like going out to see a movie and get a burger ☺️

Been doing things by myself for a long time now, learned long ago to not depend on anyone else for making plans to even meeting up on time... Solo travel (or just solo experiences in general) is freedom! Gotten so used to it now that doing things with other people is sometimes kind of awkward or even impractical...
@Sopranoknits3 жыл бұрын
As someone who's traveled alone almost exclusively for my entire adult life - I can confirm that it is the most amazing way to learn about yourself and also really immerse yourself into other places. I've had so many amazing experiences that I never would have had if I hadn't been forced to go outside of my comfort zone. I've been unpartnered for almost 4 years now and before that was in a long distance relationship for 6 so I'm no stranger to doing things alone....moved to a new country alone, hike alone all the time (just posted a vlog of one the other day!). I'm considering getting a car so that I have more access to outdoor spaces and some car travel/camping alone around Europe especially as I'm on the hunt for somewhere I want to buy land and have a little house...but this I'd actually prefer not to do alone ultimately but....I'm not going to base my dreams on anyone else so if I have to do it alone - so be it! ❤️

Um YES. I absolutely love this approach to life. Life’s too short to wait for other people to decide they want to adventure with you. I loooove an adventure on my own - even if it’s just a movie (whenever going to movies is normal again)!!
