Another great tip that I got from my Dad is to have cell phone (or email if that's your preference) notifications every time something gets charged on your debit/credit card. For instance, every time I purchase something at the store (or anywhere) I get a text message sent to my phone saying money has been deducted. Not only is this great for security purposes (in case someone gets hold of your card and start using it) but also it keeps you in check of what monthly recurring payments happen because you will receive a text message every time they charge so you are forced to remember these payments and not forget what you are subscribed to.

How do I enable this on my phone? Do banks have this option on the app?
@sarahann40074 жыл бұрын
Reema Ismail I know most credit cards have the features and you set them in your account on their website. My credit card has ssooooo many options so I get alerts for charges over $100, when my card is charged and not present, when I get a credit added (returned items) when my balance exceeds a certain amount, and probably others I can’t remember. 😆
@MyCosmeticsworld4 жыл бұрын
Reema Ismail I was able to do this on website of my bank. My bank has alert preferences for each account (master add, savings etc) and then I just clicked on alert preferences. I think it should be about similar for your bank but if not you can always give them a call ( I know that’s not always convenient)

This was good. Thank you. The subscription thing is so common, that's probably why they do it! I have Alexa remind me to cancel my free trials and I have her remind me like four times in the two days before the subscription TRIAL ends, that really helps. I'm so glad you brought up meal planning. Don't wander down aisles. Definitely keep staples like pasta and frozen and fresh veggies...but plan AT VERY LEAST 3 meals a week , buy only the ingredients in the recipes. that way when you have leftovers you toss them in with the pasta and some vegetables and voila! there's another meal, you DEFINITELY save money ( and time!) doing this. Buying random food without a plan ends up in spoiled food just make a habit of making at least three large meals a week with the recipes pre-planned, whether it's vegan or meat you can make a beet loaf or meatloaf that can be sandwiches the next day or thrown in by a salad you can roast a chicken and throw the extras in in a pasta the next day same with pork loin just plan a very nice meal three of them and you will probably end up eating very nicely for at least five to six nights and lunches that week which makes that one dinner out more justifiable. Bank of America is a horrible bank, before you were born an ATMs were born they actually decided to charge you if you went in and used a teller well I lived in San Francisco and people were coming into work actually black and blue and I would ask them what on Earth happened and they would say they got mugged at the ATM so basically that bank was causing people to get mugged! they always charge a monthly fee they never cut you a break and they never cut me a break on any overdraft and I quit them forever after being with them way too long and I still know people that for some reason have a devotion to that bank- I have no understanding why-- almost any other bank in existence has better monthly packages and better offers than Bank of America... As per art, I have noticed that way too many millennials and minimalists do not have genuine art hanging on their walls. if you study art a little and find a period and an artist that you like and you actually have money, it is definitely an investment to buy a piece or two and a lithographs can be very affordable, and they are art, they are numbered. They're not inexpensive but if you have money if you can afford thousands of dollars worth of cameras, you can invest in a couple of $1,500 lithographs by a genuine artist and display real art rather than what they call "wall art" in your living space. Just a lithograph near a sculpture can add such taste, grace and sophistication to your decor. That is pure opinion and it's only valuable if art is valuable to you. Thank you, again! I subscribed, your content is very helpful!

There’s no reason to pay for a checking account. It’s fairly easy to get a checking account without the monthly maintenance fee. However, as someone who works in banking and has to deal with this frequently, it’s imperative that people look at their accounts regularly, at least when the statement generates. If there’s fees you don’t agree with, find out how to avoid them, and if you can’t it might be best to switch banks. We see so many people that haven’t looked at their account in like 6 months, and it’s hard to help at that point. Some banks definitely go overboard with the fees, but we also all have to take personal responsibility. Also, if you do get hit with a fee, ask if they can refund a fee as a one time exception. Worse case scenario, they say no, but it’s worth a shot.
@jenna08rae4 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Banks are corporations, not non-for-profits. We can't expect all banks to offer free accounts! Lol. There are numerous ways to get free banking services with all the big banks, we just have to do our research. Again, these companies are not in business just to hold our money, develop an app, source ATMs, etc, for free.

Bad money habit: not checking your bank statement Gone are the days of balancing your checkbook.. everything is as easy as a quick swipe of plastic which can make things add up fast without us knowing. Even though everyone probably has their bank accounts on their phones, I still still we are guilty of not always checking the as often as we should (I know I’m guilty). I was kinda surprised that wasn’t listed as one of yours.. maybe it wasn’t a bad habit and you did check them but when you talked about subscriptions adding up, I thought to myself “weren’t you checking your statements every month to see what’ charges you’ve incurred?” I still struggle with checking mine prior to my statement coming out so I’ve started to set my accounts to send me texts when there are transactions to keep things visible!

I also used to go online shopping from abroad and in my country you pay 51% of the total invoice when received you can imagine the amount I lost, i started now to plan my purchases especially that many international stores are now opened in my country. i also used to buy whatever cosmetics and beauty products I find in my way sometimes I would go to the store and buy for 3000 pounds and then what happens, they all go bad, dry, or expire. Now I started to put on a certain plan for the products I use and buy only what I need and never buy two products at the same time

YES! Bank of America charged me so much in fees between my checking and savings. It was so frustrating.

I actually JUST cancelled a bunch of subscriptions. They seriously drain so much money if you don’t pay attention to what you’re actually using!

We’ve all made some of these mistakes. I think we all need to re-evaluate how we spend money frequently. Little changes can reap big rewards. I never fell into the trap of buying coffee out but that’s mainly because I’m a tea drinker. The thought of paying $3 for a cup of hot water with a 10 cent tea bag hurts me to my core. We had a bad experience with a large bank when we bought our second home. They discounted the initial interest rate by half of one percent (this was when interest rates were double digits) so that seemed like a good deal until all the checking account fees and other crazy fees ate up the savings within a year. We ended up refinancing with a mortgages broker that with another bank. Six months later the mortgage was sold back to the same bank we had original bank but at least with different more reasonable terms. Lesson learned - always evaluate the true cost of a loan and have a plan to pay off early and further limit any finance fees.

I have been keeping a document with details of what I have been spending money on. I break it down into different categories to see where my problem areas are. Something that I did notice - don't take husband grocery shopping. I let him convince me to buy all this extra stuff that I don't need and that we don't eat.

I really enjoy your videos. They are so inspiring. I've recently started to live like a minimalist. It made me so relaxed and peaceful. So when I need to buy something, I do so much research, and try to don't waste money for the things that are cheap and have bad quality. But I really need help to know about brands that are sustainable and I can have them forever. That would be a good idea if someone can tell us about sustainable brands.

Hi, I know some good brands. I started to replace my old cheap clothes by some which are more sustainable (Everlane, Organic Basics, Kotn, Tentree). If you have some time, go to check this channel : @asmallwardrobe. It is really interesting :)
