My dad wanted to sail to Alaska togethere when I graduated from high school. Never happened as he passed away when I was Eighteen. Now, however I live in Alaska. Safe sailing and thank you for the adventure! I got to sea it via you both. ;) Good times!

Sailing around Cape Caution brought me back to our Southern Ocean crossing. I can relate to how hard it is to get motivated sometimes. A couple of weeks of gray on gray will do that. Yum, beans and sauerkraut. How come I never thought of that for breakfast. I will on our next passage. You look beautiful in that gorgeous sweater Ally. Love you guys

It’s good to have things get a weee bit spicy sometimes. Keeps you fresh in your sailing skills. 😅 I had the perfect voiceover for the black bear at the end about how delicious the fish was that it was eating. “Sooooo fresh and just the right kind of crunchy. Ohh, mmmm, yeahhh…Think I might want to eat another one but, ohh wait. I’d have to get back up again. I just sat down….but it was very tasty. G'day. You both look comfortable with the tiller. If you install a self steering wind vane, it will do the steering for you allowing both a more relaxed time, longer single watch keeping, and it does not use up power. A wind turbine would also be a big help by keeping the battery charged up. Great sailing conditions. Are you going to be up high enough to see the norteren lights?. Gerard.

Thanks Gerard! Def feeling good with the tiller. Wind vane is on the desirable list of things, but we'll likely save those investments for a more capable boat ;) let us know if you see any around! We'd love to catch a glimpse of the Northern lights, sailed over the 59degree mark yesterday!

@@AllisonandJamesSailing Sorry to say this but i live in Australia and in north QLD Airlie Beach wear it's on the hardstand at present. You mentioned a more capable boat ?., I think the one you got now is very capable of where you are going. The only time i would think of getting a bigger boat would be if i were to start having a family and for myself, the current boat is very capable and you owe it as well as having done all the work on your boat, i would just say keep it until changes take place in the future. Just keep upgrading the one you got now. Gerard.

It is possible to make excellent KZbin videos while exercising some discretion. As a mariner myself I appreciate resources for mariners. Creating a resource for mariners is not the same thing as generating advertising revenue, which is what any dollars you receive or hope to receive for these videos are. I realise the force I’m urging you to resist is unstoppable. I only ask you not to hasten it needlessly.

You must stop at Warm springs bay on the east side of Baranof island! Also incredible shrimping in Red Bluff Bay also on Baranof island

Oh wow, that’s so neat! Previous owners (whom we’ve never met) were from Utah. When we researched we suspected it was an indigenous word originating in Utah. It’s beautiful and we loved it so left it :)

Hi Both, love this as the passage to Alaska has fascinated be for a long time and the best I could do was a cruise ship 😂. I have a 29ft Compass and keep thinking about getting rid of the steering wheel as my previous yacht had a tiller and I think it is better for feeling the waves. question from Port Macquarie, Australia 🇦🇺 why have you chosen to stay with a tiller?

It’s a bucket-list cruise for sure! Glad you got the opportunity to experience it! We removed our steering wheel (just a few episodes ago) and installed this new tiller. Hi that’s amazing! One degree of separation. We live on the Hastings River and I currently have the yacht on the pontoon doing a lot of cleanup as it was on the mooring for far too long. I am really enjoying your adventure and the quality of your filming and editing. I like that the narration is shared pretty equally between both of you. Your boat is a similar size and age to mine. I have a Carter 30. Your budget seems to be only slightly better than mine, so I'm really interested in what you choose to add to your boat and what you decide to live without. Looks like you are using a Garmin 45CV fish finder. Where have you mounted the transducer? I have the same stem profile as Uintah.

Thanks so much! So glad to hear you’re enjoying what we’re creating and that it’s relatable to yours! Choosing what to do with the limited time and resources we all have is a big part of the challenge! We mounted the transducer to the hull in the rear quarter/aft cabin, accessible next to the fuel tank. It’s bedded in butyl .. As long as there are no air gaps, the transducer can see thru solid glass.

Don’t know tbh! It’s a fixed length spinnaker pole. borrowed it from a friend on an old 1960’s ship that wasn’t going anywhere this Summer. Seems to be a bit of a relic 😅

guys be careful when heading north from Bella Bella up to Klemtu. If u decide to to up into one of the channels (Matheson or Finlayson) again do it on a slack tide especially if there is a big swell coming in. Cheers and be safe.

Cape Caution, arguably the safest cape in BC, is nothing, try Cape St James. Cape Caution is also the only mainland Cape inBC

We actually removed the wheel in favour of having a tiller. Much more nimble to handle, and the extra cockpit space is fantastic! We made a video about this a few months ago :)
