Good to know about Ambassadors as I added many this year to existing collection. I have two augers-short and long. You definitely Do Not wear gloves with the short one. Yikes! It will grab and pull your hand right around. The long one I don’t have my hand close to the blades and is also good for turning the compost. Got those bulbs in just in time as it sure is getting much colder here in WI than the last two winters. Time will tell if it will stay as we are warming up for a couple days this weekend. Oh, the anemone Blanda, I couldn’t find much about how to grow it in WI-plant now? Spring? Soak-not soak? Well I soaked for about 3 hours and threw them in a grouping. We will see.

I planted 5 bulbs this year 😂 my last attempt at fritillaria. All the hundreds of bulbs I planted in the past reward me every year. Yes, alliums are incredible and I wouldn’t be without them! I especially love schubertii, nectarscordum, sphaerocephalon, and karataviense (please excuse the likely errors!). Just made a new garden bed and am considering getting in on end-of-season sales to pack it out with bulbs for spring. The plain old muscari can be overbearing, but I like to use the fancier cultivars and they seem to be more tame. I have many windflowers planted and they’re finally starting to establish. You need some cyclamen too! Totally with you on the snowdrops. I adore them. Mine have come from dormant bulbs and they’ve done great. Do you also have snowflakes? Leucojum? They’re AMAZING and so elegant. I can tell just looking at that rake that it’s better. Definitely looks sturdy. But then I also have a preferred mousetrap 😅

Darwin/Magnus steals the show! On your lead, probably last year, I added Nigrum to my perennial beds this fall along with Ambassador, White Giant & Gladiator. Some of these varieties I already have...but where I saw gaps last year, I marked exactly where I wanted to plant them. After reading The Layered Garden by David Culp a few years ago, I have been adding galanthus to my gardens ever since...the first thing to bloom in my garden...a few even blooming now 😕

Are gophers and woodchucks the same thing? If so, they are around but I think there are easier targets for them so generally not a huge issue for me. As for moles, I keep hearing they are good for eating jumping worms so I wouldn't mind if one showed up. Lots of voles around here as well although I've been lucky so far on those.
