What a surprise! I've never heard of these triangular stemmed varieties before, and they look superb! Particularly interested in senescens glaucum & Millennium!

I thought alliums came out in late spring in the UK? Fantastic if these are summer flowering ones.

Thank you so much Rosie for this information on the Alliums. I absolutely love them, I will look out for the three you have have demonstrated. I try to grow everything for the butterflies and bees, and to watch them gorging on the alliums is a delight. Please could you tell us when is the time of year we can obtain and plant them.

These are fascinating, no yellowed leaves like the types that grow each year from a bulb. So these leaves are evergreen? I found a pretty white flowered plant in my garden that someone identified as a 3 cornered leek. Same triangular stem, but apparently invasive. But must be same family? Thank you for a really interesting video…didn’t realise perennial alliums existed!

Are you related to Charlie Dimmock in any way? The resemblance is striking and you both love gardening!

When you divide a section of the plant do you need to dig the WHOLE plant up to do that?

Thank you- so they only bloom once in spring? Do the flower heads remain a long time? Should they be dead headed?

Any particular variety that doesn’t need any cold period and could handle hot humid & wet summers? Florida 9b sub tropical. We have Society Garlic which is about the closest I’ve found that has a similar growth and bloom structure. I’ve tried all the different bulbs without success.

I have mine in a pot, what shall I do with it in winter> I would prefer to keep it in a pop but its -25F here at times. normal is 10F for winter.

It doesn't look as if the leaves deteriorate when the flower opens, as they usually do on the traditional alliums.

I have the second shorter one...are the ornamentals edible? That may be a dumb question...they smell just like chives when you pick them
@TheEnderknight Жыл бұрын
Yes, all alliums are edible theoretically. Though store bought ornamental alliums probably have insecticide on them, so wait a year for new foliage to grow and munch on the leaves they will vary in flavor between onion flavor and garlic flavor.
