Why don't we measure wavelength using only one diameter that is lambda = (square of Nth ring Diameter) divided by (4 N R) ?

Measuring the difference is less errorful. Some systematic errors camcel out in this process.

Okk but why we are taking difference to calculate the diameter ....is that actually mean that we are measuring the thickness of ring & i am confused in tabulation a little bit... because its different in our college manual
@AllLabExperiments
@AllLabExperiments 2 жыл бұрын
Yes you calculate the diameter first but going across the center to calculate diameter is errorful so we use a modified formula of difference of square of diameters
@Shreejaya
@Shreejaya 2 жыл бұрын
@@AllLabExperiments I doesn't mean that difference ...I am talking about the left right difference... what's the reason behind that....if we are taking center to left and right measurements then we should add them to get the diameter? Right?

Why don't we take 1 st/2 ND ring in data calculation
@AllLabExperiments
@AllLabExperiments 2 жыл бұрын
It is infact to minimize errors. The diameter of single ring can also be used to measure wavelength but we use another formula of taking the square of diameters and then their difference. Just to minimize the errors because of the center.

@AllLabExperiments
@AllLabExperiments 2 жыл бұрын
It is something you know because from center you avoid a few rings and then you note dpwn the placement of every 5th ring after that. Same you do on the other side and finally calculate the diameter of the ring.

The reading of travelling microscope is like reading vernier caliper. For air wedge you get straight fringes not rings and from their distance find the angle of inclination and finally the thickness of the paper.
