Gregg and Dickey were tight but circumstances would put a big gap between them eventually. Fack is, they needed each other and both were well aware of this. Greatest live jam band to ever take the stage, with any of their ever changing members.

The ABB made me put down the violin and take up guitar in. 1970. Been playing ever since. Even named my daughter Melissa. In 1979. My favorite allllllllll time band. I honestly didn't think I could go on after Duane and Barry left way to early, I stayed a long for the ride. Couldn't give up on them. They managed to keep going thru good and bad times. I do love them and the many different line ups thru the years. I don't believe there is another band that can jam a song like these guys did. Their live shows are incredible. I /we were truly blessed to grow up during the best years of rock and roll, rhythm and blues. And still rocking at 66/67 love love 💕🎶😘

Never underrated, at least by me. I've saw them over 20 times since the early 70s. By the time Eat A Peach was released, they were being called the best band in this land and maybe more. Sadly they had there problems and in my opinion Enlightened Rogues would be there last great album.

Its now 50 yrs ago- in 1970- that I heard Allman Brs band first time- on record- and although my favorites are the Beatles and I like Stones, Kinks, Clapton, Bob Dylan, Eagles, Frank Zappa, Jimi Hendrix, I have rarely enjoyed a Band more than The Allman Brs. Band because they are playing better, more coherent, more in absolute harmony with each other- than virtually any other Band.

Texas Confederate - yes Gregg would have never got over losing his brother. I also have not. My brother Richie was the lead guitar player in our band in Tulsa and was another Dwayne, Dickie, Warren, Derek all rolled into one heluva player. Like the Allman Brothers, we played music together for years from our teens on. We lost Richie in 2009 and you are absolutely right, it never goes away. I still play but sometimes think about leaving it all behind since my brother is also gone. We had fun and some great times playing music and I still miss him, all of it too. To be honest, other players have been great friends and are very good at what they do too but they can never fill that spot. But, we keep on "Rockin" and playin "da Blues" for the feel good and to remember. Doc 'harps' Sweetwood" St. Louis.

Believe it or not my college roommate's brother was Dicky Betts' road manager in Great Southern. Saw them backstage at SDSU outdoor ampitheater in 1978 and got in again backstage in 1979 at the LA Forum. almost tripped over Cher as I tried to get another Budweiser from the trash can they had them in....lol. Had to buy a ticket in 1981 at SDSU but that was totally fine. Then in Vail in 1990, at Harrahs Rincon in 2011. Dicky Betts is one of the best guitarists I've ever seen live and up close.
