Allopurinol for Gout 100 mg, 300 mg Dosage and Side Effects

I had pains in my feet for 6 years and GPs (Doctors) in the UK failed to give me answers for years... Until i was given gout and it helped alot. I had pains in my feet where it would travel all iver the foot and prevented me from working, walking, everday living. It was really bad but the 300mg a day helped and have been taking it for 7 months now and not had pain thank God.

I myself have gout and to be honest, there are many different natural ways that can mitigate and lessen the chances of a gout attack. I usually get the gout on both of my feet, hands, elbow, and just anywhere with joints in general. I now have only one serious gout attack once per year. I believe for beginners, drinking fluid as in H2O helps rid the uric acid out the body. Raw garlic helps too since it cleanse and detoxify the kidney in which the kidney's function is to excrete uric acid from our urine. This stuff really works. And excercise along with paying attention to certain foods that may increase level of uric acid which causes gout can be helpful.

You are partially right but don't give people false hope... Most folks suffering from gout have had extremely high uric acid levels for years without even knowing. High UA = potential damage to organs, mostly your kidneys, liver, heart, brain and the entire vascular system (high UA "stiffens" up veins in your body and causes inflammation). Most folks suffering from gout are also way above the limit (while you want to keep it below 6 mg/dl, gout sufferers are often above 9 mg/dl). In rare cases of very unhealthy lifestyle, you can lower your UA with diet, but in folks genetically suffering from UA (there are many genes that may affect UA levels) the diet and lifestyle makes up to only about 30% of the entire UA levels. Purines are mostly created by your own body. I'll give you a great example, I mostly eat white meat with veggies, I don't drink alcohol (once every 2-3 weeks), I exercise daily (weight training mixed with cardio), I'm a 6ft male 180 lbs and my UA levels fluctuate from 7-11 (!!) mg/dl depending on the day. The worst levels I get when I recover from intense weight workout or very intense cardio (recovering muscles generate tons of purines into your own body). So I either suffer from over-production of purines or under-exertion of uric acid from my own body. I'm just about to contact my doctor to prescribe allopurinol - something that I've been trying to avoid for 3 years now. I came to acceptance and I learnt that ignorance of high UA levels may lead to other much more severe health effects.

Allopurinol is known to cause gout attacks when first prescribed because your body is lowering uric acid and the crystals in your joints are beginning to dissolve. As the crystals dissolve, your immune system attacks them as they are uncovered.

Research shows a higher rate of liver damage in patients that take allpurinal but people on allopurinol generally have unhealthy lifestyle choices that landed them with gout to begin with so it’s hard to have any direct correlation with the drug itself

Hi all. Should I start allopurinol when I'm already have skin itchiness? I'm allergic to tomato, lemon, ginger, garlic and probably cherry because they say to drink tart cherry juice. My second flared up probably from yogurt or bread even though I drink a gallon of water a day. Zyrtec helps with my itch.Thank so much

I read the crystals should dissolved after a year and half and crystal formation after that is very low. Do you still need to take the drug after that point? It doesn’t seem it would be necessary
