Anyone wanting actual advice: HEAT your foot, never ice it. The reason crystals deposit in the big toe and ankle is b/c of how far away it is from the heart/core of your body, and gout almost always happens at night when your body temperature drops. Core stays warmer than your feet. So never ever ice your foot, as icing can also help CRYSTALIZE the uric acid faster. Its counter intuitive, but dunk that foot in as hot as a water as you can handle 30 min at a time. Use common sense, don't burn yourself. Drink LOTS of water, but try not to exceed 5-6L a day, otherwise you're just making your kidneys work overtime. You can try to drink water w/ a small amount of baking soda mixed in (1/2 teaspoon to 250mL of water) in order to make your blood more basic on the pH scale, a theory that it will somewhat neutralize the uric acid. But there is no scientific evidence that shows this works, its anecdotal. I'm only adding it here in case it works for you. Ignore the online sites saying eat fruit. Fruit has fructose which converts to Uric Acid. Its ok to have a small amount of fruit once every other day when you're having a flare up. avoid anything that has too much fruit sugar in it, yes, apples included (green apples are ok). Also start taking ascorbic acid (Vitamin C w/o fructose). Carrots, cabbage, and cucumbers should become your best friend. I know websites tell you "fructose from fruit is ok", it absolutely is not. 2 small mandarin oranges were enough to make my flare up get worst. Although everyone says avoid red meat, if you look up the info online, the primary purine known as hypoxanthine is usually the culprit for gout/uric acid. Did you know that a chicken breast has MORE purines in it then some red meat? Use your brain when picking proteins, dont just read a list on google and think that's scripture, it isn't, its usually wrong IMO. Instead look up actual research papers. Eggs should also become your best friend during and after a gout flare up as they are one of the only proteins to have virtually zero purines. As soon as you start feeling an attack coming, take Indomethacine 50mg (make sure to take with food, never take on empty stomach!), they expire pretty quick so if you're prone to attacks/flares, keep a fresh supply on hand just in case. This is one of the only drugs (NSAID) that has ever worked for me, and online anecdotal evidence seems to back that up. Takes up to 3-4 days to start feeling the affects so the sooner you take it, the better. You will need a prescription for this as they are not sold over the counter (at least not in Canada). Once the swelling goes away and you're kind of back to normal, dont' go back to eating normally. Uric acid levels remain for up to 3 months after an attack, you're basically just straddling the line. So once the symptoms go away, keep eating healthy and avoid starchy carbs, refined sugar and fruit sugars, and metric ton of water a day. Keep in mind getting a blood test to check Uric acid levels while you're having a flare up and right after is completely useless and will not tell you anything. Get your blood work done 3 months AFTER your attack and symptoms have completely gone away, this will give you a far better picture of whats actually in your blood. During an attack, most of that acid is in the form of crystals inside your joints, so its possible to get a test result back saying you have normal or low Uric acid levels; I know this b/c that's exactly what my blood work said when I went to the ER the first time I ever got gout, it was listed as 4.5 (6 being the level you get gout, and 5.5 being the upper range for normal humans), even the doctor said blood tests dont mean anything when it comes to gout during a flare up. There are a lot of studies that show uric acid alone isn't what gives you gout. Some people have very elevated uric acid levels in their blood but don't get gout. Its certain foods that will trigger it when consumed over and over again in a given period of time. And everyone will have different triggers. But the research is pretty concrete: Sugar and refined carbohydrates. If you cut these two things out for a few months (I know, easier said than done, but what do you have to lose given how painful gout is?), you will become gout free. Then you can slowly reintroduce those two things BUT in limited amounts. This is the price we pay for treating our bodies like shit for years, but you will get used to it. To anyone reading this that has a lot of fat on their body: Try 48 hour water fasting once a week, then once you're used to that, up it to 72 hour long water fasts. Make sure you take electrolytes (try to use the ones that don't use stevia or sugar of any kind, you want to limit insulin response while fasting, and yes stevia will do that too). Not only is this what got rid of gout permanently for me. It made me lose a ton of weight and cleared up some other health issues I was having. The first 18-30ish hours are going TO SUCK IF YOU'VE NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE. Once you make it past that, trust me, its smooth sailing. And the motivation you get because of gout, let's just say its easier if you really want to do it as opposed to "have to do it". It is INSANE how little food a human needs to survive day to day. I also have to add that if you're doing prolonged 72 hour fasts every week, please for the love of god go to the gym 4-5 days a week and weight train. It's the only way you'll keep your muscle mass instead of losing it due to nucleogenesis. Read up on how insulin works and its myriad of trickle down effects in your body before you try fasting, and particularly how to lower insulin resistance by cutting out carbs and sugar and become fat adapted. Educate yourself first before taking such leaps. If you are vegan or vegetarian, then I can't help you, all I can say is avoid foods that are high in fructose/glucose and carbohydrates, whether complex or simple carbs, limit both. I hope this helps someone out there. edit to add: I noticed w/ my last gout flare up (which lasted almost a month....), after the first week, putting on wide size steel toe boots actually helped tremendously. The flex in a normal shoe puts too much strain on your toe and it'd hurt like fucking crazy taking a step w/ shoes on (esp b/c most shoes aren't wide by design to begin with, but also b/c of the flex). It will hurt like crazy to get your foot into the boot initially, but once its in, take a deep breath and lace up. Give it 5 minutes then start taking some steps. Over the course of the day the pain literally would disappear (other than the fact I could feel it was swollen, there was no pain). It'd return about 20 min after taking the boot off. I literally would not be able to go to work had I not learned this one trick. Please use common sense though, if it hurts too much then take off the boot and try again a few days later. Listen to your body, but also recognize that we as humans are resilient and can persevere a lot, your body will adjust accordingly. Thank goodness I had a pair of wide steel toe boots handy, good luck to everyone else.

If you are someone who gets very frequent Gout attacks you probably has high uric acid levels irrespective of your diet due to genetic reasons and needs to take drugs to reduce high uric levels in the blood.

Please warn people that they can get incredibly sick from gout without ever having big toe pain. I wound up in the hospital last summer with 103° persistent fever, extreme pain in my knees and unable to lift my legs even 1 inch off the bed. I was delirious for the first 2 days. High doses of multiple antibiotics weren't helping and the doctors were stumped. They eventually decide that maybe I had an infection in my knee replacement. They drew fluid from my knee prior to removing the replacement and instead of infection the syringe filled with tofi! My body was riddled with gout. They loaded up my body with steroids and allopurinol, stopped the antibiotics and 2 days later I could walk and had no fever. In total I spent 7 days in the hospital and stumped many doctors. In hindsight I realized that the cause of my gout storm was bratwurst! I come from a community with a huge German heritage. I had made a ton of bratwurst for a gathering and of course had leftovers. We ate them for almost every meal for a couple of days because why not? 🤪 On the 3rd day I threw the leftovers in the freezer but the damage was done. I was home alone, sick and delirious for 8 hours before my husband realized there was something wrong and called the ambulance.

Then I read that chicken is on the list of no no’s… along with a lot of other things that are “healthy”. Became very confused and you have straighten things out for me. Thank you so very much.!!!!

Im 50yo and not over weight at all. Im @ 12% BF you can see my abbs. I take 300mg of allopurinol Daily. I drink at least 2 gal of water a day now and eat only whole foods nothing processed at all. I lived in chronic pain for @ 10 years then finally this year we figured it out. I have had 3 spine surgeries and stayed inflamed in my neck and lower back where the metal is also in my wrist, fingers and elbows. I also take 15mg of meloxicam a day. I am going to try some of your remedies to see if I can get off the meds. I will still only eat whole foods. Nothing processed what so ever. I was also passing kidney stone weekly before I started this. Oh yeah no alcohol either. I do own a coffee shop so I drink black coffee at least 4 times a day..

Brilliant video Doc, thank you ! I have had gout for 12 years and everything you say is true....Just some behaviours/ that has helped me not have an attack in the last year is : 1, I cut down on sugar, juices, soda and FRUCTOSE based fruits 2. Cauliflower, Tomatoes, seafood, vegetable oils, 3. I exercise alot these days zand drink lots of coffee/water (which I now prefer over soda/juices/energy drinks (this used to be a major cause of my gout) 4. Meds - I use Voltaren tabs when I feel the twitch in my joints....fixes the inflammation that would have given me an attack. I also, take voltaren tablet a week, as a preventative measure 5. I also, neautralise weekly with a glass of water and baking soda, as a preventative measure Your video speaks exactly to what I have been doing, so the reinforcement and extra info would help me even further. Based on your advice, I am now going to take Potassium citrate, use Olive oil to cook, get more sleep and destress as much as I can. God bless, thanks again.

Dr Kim thank you so much I put this amazing information I have learned so much more with you than any other one that explains gout.... back in September I had to have some blood work cuz I was not feeling good fingers, foot, knees, so I have some blood work done and I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. But the thing is that someone else question me if maybe I have gout. They told me that they know some family and friends that have gout they told me what were the symptoms but I decided to do some research and you have been the best that has explained what Gout is all about in February I am going to see a rheumatoid arthritis doctor and I might be having a lot of blood work done so if he tells me I have gout I'm going to continue doing what I'm doing and actually I'm doing most of the things that you said on this video. I have increased my water intake any eliminating the cauliflower, meats, I have gone plant-based eating I also do fasting . But one thing I wanted to ask you is fasting good for gout actually one of the doctor told me that it's not good to fast when you have gout so that's why I'm asking the professional one Doctor Kim🥰 I'm so happy that I found you I'm in tears😢 because through my research I learned about grounding that I'm going to start doing that in springtime I started following you and I have share your videos to other friends and family Dr Kim❤

I drank more water, more coffee, 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar 2X a day, and 1000 mg of vitamin C 2X a day. I could walk again in 2 days, and flareups reduced almost immediately. I soaked my foot in cold water for 20 minutes on and off a few times and 800mg ibuprofen with regular dose of acetaminophen. 🙏

Unfortunately all nuts have high amounts of oxalates which do cause gout and kidney stones. I love nuts so I had to stop. Also, black tea is real high in oxalates too. Tomato sauce has medium amounts of oxalates. Maybe if we did all of the things this Dr says, we can still eat these things. Until then, it is best to avoid them.

30 years ago some friends told me that Edgar Cayce, the sleeping prophet, said that if one eats 1 to 3 almonds daily one will never get cancer. After awhile of doing so, I observed that my gout was gone, my teeth which had become sensitive no longer were, and my headaches and backaches became less frequent and less severe.

I’m basically “bad luck Chuck” ( Charlie Brown ). I’m taking a lot of this stuff ( WITH culcicine) and the crystals in my big toe are UNBELIEVABLY stubborn and resilient!!! And regardless of what I do, my damn belly fat looks like it ain’t goin NOWHERE!!! I take all sorts of things for my blood sugar, too. Berberine, and a blood sugar support supplement that has gymnema sylvestre, bitter melon and a few other really good ingredients, along with metformin. Yet my blood sugar is still usually in the 110 - 138 range. Not ALARMINGLY high, but still could be better. To top it off I drink a tea ( I jokingly call it my “witch’s brew” ) where I steep parsley, ginkgo biloba ( my poor painfully average brain cells need all the help they can GET ), holy basil, oregano and crushed pickling spices. Then I crush a banauba leaf and cut up some dried hibiscus and add that it it, as well, along with a crushed bay leaf. If I have pine needles, those ALSO get added to the mix. Then after it is done steeping and has cooled down a good bit, I stir in some really good organic Ceylon cinnamon and a pinch of ground up clove. It actually doetnt taste all that bad. Now if this stuff is all working as well as it SUPPOSEDLY does, that begs the question: How the he’ll high IS my normal blood sugar, anyway?!?! “500?!?!” “800?!?!”

UPDATE, gout flare right big toe, ...started as warning in heel. Thought was a strange case of plantar fasciatis. Mildish pain. Couple days. Lasted Friday sat, went away by Sunday felt big tightness in big toe. Ate some cherries. Next day top of foot toe bottom ball of foot ached. Didnt catch it in time. Mon tue...GOUT was on! Water onion tart cherry juice celery smoothie etc acv lime juice, ...iced on off maybe a bit much..caused a problem. I was through the pain believe it or not. Walking again. Just had a swollen food. Pain 90% gone. Damn,EDEMA, from over icing...drew too much blood to foot. Then it came back. Battle on 😔 Long story short...yesterday, i got gouch by Redd and celery seed extract. Was limping around using left foot with crutches. Felt pain in 2nd toe. Thought gout was starting. Damn, slight pain. Started taking gouch miday, gout foot felt better. A few odd toe twitches that hurt, possible side effect of gouch? Pain in 2nd toe on left foot still there. Tried tincture oil celery seed extract hours after. Noticed gout foot improvement. Pain are swelling dialed down. Mind you , no meds, no nsaids all week. gritting through the pain was hard, but i didn't want to over tax my over taxed kidneys or liver. Ate little yesterday too. Day before i drank 120 oz, yesterday's intake was about 100. Tincture 3 doses of celery tincture 2 doses of gouch..1 kiwi yesterday lotsa water, gout foot improvement 👌 😀 left foot pain grew. This morning right gout ft most pain around big toe joint and behind big toe, like a 3 to 5 instead of 6789 yoyo. Left foot was at a 9 only when i tried to.walk. i kwpt thinking gout jumped to 2nd toe until i thought 🤔 why did left toe go to 9 while gout toe found relief. Remembered crushing boxes with my foot ..thin house shoes. Sharp part of box pushed up under ball of toes. Foot pain took a day to blow up. Went in, xray, not gout but tendonitis in foot. I fkd up something by stomping on a big bad box with a corner that didnt give way to my big foot and weight. Putting two and two together... I woke up today, couldn't use my left foot at all to stand, gout foot still weak, but after jumping around trying to compensate for gout foot, tendonitis is my main battle now whilst still makimg sure to treat my gout to get it 💯. Without another repeat flare. Yep, i injured my good foot while trying to crutch it, taking weight off gout foot. Wow .. Goodnews...3rd x gout in 6 yrs, last one 3.5 yrs ago, 1st last 1.5 months, 2nd few weeks..this one..call it 2 wks...if i can keep it going next week healing without flare up. Beats relying on pharma 5050 meds, nsaids etc. Nie i gotta RICE METHOD for tendonitis and hope the gout uric acids decrease...keep doin what im doing....though sadly, im in bed immobile until i can get toe tendonitis in check...cause i dont wanna injure gout foot in order to limp on 1 foot that just went through week of hell. At least gout foot is better. Just not better to be main weight bearer. I certainly dont wanna have gout or tendonitis in both feet. Geesh Tincture works...gouch too.

I made several appointments with my medical centre and always got to see nurse practitioners. None of them could diagnose me. One of them gave me some kind of test that measured blood flow to my feet. Another game me antibiotics which was really rough because they gave me the squirts and I couldn't take my painkillers. I self referred to a podiatrist who diagnosed me with gout, not 100% but he was pretty sure.

After 10 years I finally cured my gout first by 3 days water fasting to lower insulin on the blood, then must stop and no more sweets/sugar/carbs (rice, pasta, grains, starches) intake especially high fructose, no more fruit juices, no more vegetables that causes oxalates accumulation (e.g. spinach), then I only eat more meat, eggs, fish, chicken, drink more water, eat whole fruits casually (no juices). No medicine, no doctor, no pain. Just by fasting 3 days already clear the pain without any medication. Be careful with fructose, must stop at all cause.

Thank for you this great video! I recently had my first gout attack at age 53 and it was incredibly painful. Looking for any way to reduce the chances that it'll happen again. You mention you have an herbal treatment for an acute attack, can you explain more about that? Are there herbs I could keep at home for self-treatment of a flair up?
