I try and get my horse poop from the same place, but they may get their hay from a different supplier. It's a chance we have to take some times when we collect all year around. My carrots started to rot in February so this season I have insulated them with coco coir and covered in plastic to stop the rain getting to them and I am so glad that I did. ♻️Happy gardening, Terry King.

Love the odd turnip. These are really sweet and about as hard to grow as a radish so anyone can grow em. Cheers Dan 😊

Good idea to test the manure. I'd been doing so well on my allotment and produce in abundance. The following year my tomato plants became narrow and Tisted, my brassica s were minute, everything was contaminated

Nice one Dan. Missed your updates mate. Nice little haul and what always gets me over the years is how some of the root veg are as tough as boots and hold up with the weather. Catch up soon and all the best mate to you and yours. Much love, Andy and Karen 👍😎

All the veg looks perfect. I grow Sweet Candle same as you, but the carrot fly got to them. I've no idea how as this was the first season. I'm covering them with enviromesh next year.
@VanderlyndenJengold Жыл бұрын
I use environmesh against the carrot and leek fly, no alternative really. Flyaway carrots may work but probably at the expense of that lovely carrot smell. Still, you have to make sure there's no holes in your mesh and it's secure or they'll get in as I found to my cost.
@Allotment-diaryUk Жыл бұрын
I'm lucky as far as carrot fly goes. Enviromesh should sort it though. Cheers Dan 😊

Eyup Dan. Tidy little rake of snap there as usual. Your 'lucky man in a high wind' carrot was particularly impressive. What happened to Q&A then? Do I sniff a sneaky test of a future treat? Enjoy yer dinner and I'll sithi after. Dave

Great harvest. When did you sow your turnips? I have not managed to grow any for winter this year. Thanks

I sowed them after my peas finished so probably around early September. Cheers 😊

Same problem with cow muck marra. If they've been fed on silage or bedded down on straw both of which could have been sprayed with the same stuff you're still gonna be up sh&t creek. Cheers Dan 😊

Hello again Dan, just a quick question mate. Who do you get your Elista seeds from?. I've grown Zebrunne since I first saw them on your channel but last year was an absolute disaster with germination and growth, so this year I'm growing Elista.
@VanderlyndenJengold Жыл бұрын
I've grown turnips before yet didn't like them. Didn't put them in stews though, maybe I might find them OK then. I'm guessing home grown turnips are like anything else home grown - much tastier than those bought at a supermarket. Is this right? Before I grow new veg I usually try some from the supermarket, yet time has taught me the taste is pretty insipid with most store bought veg.
