Hi Jody, thank you so much for this tutorial, this is my first time making a hexagon quilt, I've torn my first two rows apart because I didn't see them in the right way, I found your tutorial and it was great, you have explained it so well, you took the time to show how to do it, I will be watching all your tutorials from now on,😍.

I think using the dots is more efficient than marking the entire seam allowance as some demonstrate. Some rulers have a hole to easily mark the point. Your presentation was excellent.

For some of us - me especially, I need that seam line drawn as I have a wonky eye - meaning that I need to concentrate not to change eyes (which I do constantly when I choose or my brain chooses!!). I need this line as I have very little actual depth perception. And perhaps for beginners, a drawn line might help them till they feel comfortable! Efficiency shouldn’t be the only thing when sewing - I sew slower than some people because I need to concentrate all the time. I was born with this wonky eye and I’m almost 77, so I’ve learned how to deal!!!

Wonderful and useful information. I knew about the "awkward" - ness when you match the seams together down the line, but, I never knew or even thought about how you should only sew the length from "dot to dot" so you can have it fit together correctly. I also didn't know about how you press the seams in opposite directions when you iron them open. TYSM for sharing this video with us. 🥰👍😻

Superp tutorial, thank you so much!! I was given the link to your video from Rosery Apparel, one of her 10 minute tutorials, she sews so many hexagons together with scrap fabrics and will complete her quilt over time. This is something I too will endeavour to do. Sending best wishes from UK x

Hint if you own more than one sewing machine: use the machine that is easiest to control the hand crank and reverse. A knee lift for added control of pressure foot also helps.

Helpful--but what is the technique for making sure all the dots are correctly placed? (I've got some very tiny hexes! Even if I sew by hand, that precision will help me.)

That is suddenly a lot less intimidating that I thought it was going to be. Now it's *just* time intensive, lol.

Thank you for this easy explanation. I am making a quilted Hexi baby quilt for my new baby granddaughter due next month. I am at a dilemma as to make it a crib size or a little bigger for a twin bed. I made a quilt for my grandson before he was born but forgot what size I made it. Do you advice maybe a 30" x 40" ? I really could use your expert advice. thank you so very much.

FYI: I don’t think you need to remove the pins as you so. Most machines, at least 4 machines I’ve used through the years, would all sew over a straight pin as long as it’s perpendicular to the foot and the pin is not bent in anyway.
@mollyislovely4 жыл бұрын
I mean true but it can cause seam to be uneven.
@karinabednarek4477 Жыл бұрын
if the needle hits the pin - its not good. that is why you don't sew over the pins just in case.
@Vivienwestphal3 жыл бұрын
You really don't need 3 pins in a tiny piece of fabric like this.... Please just hold your fabric properly while you sew and you won't need pins at all.
@sandybruce90924 ай бұрын
Personally, I think you should pin exactly at each corner!! No. matter the size of the hexie! A large hexie needs more pins - but then I’m a pinner from way back so….. 😊
