⁠@@taroupriapus9760that is correct. But don’t forget that the Istari do still have more magical power than any other being in middle earth. Clearly they got nerved and can’t even use 5% of their original power, but even this 1-5% are more than enough to archive great magical powers. They simply got told by the Valar not to use their powers unless it’s absolutely necessary (example: an enemy who has great magical or physical power is standing against them). Their task is to help the Volk of middle earth with wisdom. If Gandalf wouldn’t got Glamdring, he probably would’ve use his staff in physical combat to get enemies away from him

Looks like Gandalf overcame his staff dependency weakness pretty fast after being defeated by Saruman, considering he was able to fight and defeat the Balroq with just his sword not long afterwards. Plus he was able to fight off all those Orcs at the Black Gate with just his sword later on. That's certainly been one of the reasons why Gandalf's my favorite kind of wizard, for being both a magician and swordsman. His magic may not be as flashy or frequent as other movie wizards, but that fits with the saying less is more.

Gandalf technically didnt kill the balrog, because the balrog was originally a Maiar spirit who was corrupted by Melkor/Morgoth and was then turned into the Balrog. And normally, Maiar spirits are immortal. This is why Sauron and Saruman are both still alive, even though they lost almost all of their power and hence cannot have a physical form since they were "killed".

Gandalf's underrated, oft unreported power is that he is a diplomat/politician intent on regime change. Trying to create kings.. did it with Aragorn, tried it with Thorin and he assassinated the legitimate king of the goblins that left a vacuum. Not saying he was right or wrong in these endeavours, just that it was another skill which often bore fruit and set back the dark forces in his perspective. More esoteric, he was an expert military tactician able to see what Azog was doing to best counter it in the battle of the 5 armies, and bring support for the battle of helm's deep and the battle at Gondor. Also a keen researcher with literacy and numeracy skills, with excellent recall and a huge network of informants and allies to keep him apprised of almost all affairs in middle earth, among the first of the white council to hear of the stirring of trolls, orcs, goblins around human and elven territories.. he is able to act on new information and adapt seamlessly to changing circumstances yet never swaying from his end goal (can fall under willpower, perception, determination or all 3).

Gandalf is a badass! But something that always bothered me was the fact that he never really displayed his powers much. I sometimes forget that he sopouse to be a wizard.

5 wizards were sent to Middle Earth to guide and council free people of Middle Earth in the fight against Sauron. They were instructed not to control or seek to dominate and not to reveal their power unless utterly necessary. Saruman, Gandalf, Radagast and 2 blue wizards. Gandalf is a being who was there when the world was created and took part in its creation, he is very powerful. Just the point of the story is that free people need to find the strength within them to free them selves of the dark lord. And they did it, with a nudge or two from higher powers. Gandalf didn't randomly return to Middle Earth, Gollum didn't randomly trip and fell into the lava. Fight between Gandalf and Balrog created such storm on that mountain, those who saw the mountain said that was the largest storm they have ever witnessed. Which was the only battle between two gods ever, or rather lesser gods to be more precise. There's 1 true god, Eru Iluvatar (aka Sacred Fire which Gandalf mentions when introducing him self to Balrog), next circle is Valar and circle below that are Maiars. Gandalf, Sauron, Saruman, Balrogs - they are all Maiars. Gandalf's real name is Olorin. Gandalf refers to Eru once more, "I strayed out of thoughts and time" - the only place where time doesn't exist is Halls of Iluvatar - place created before time and a place where Eru resides. So guess who saw that Middle Earth is doomed without Gandalf? Gandalf uses his powers according to his task, he nudges things a little bit. Why were there only 5 ringwraiths at Weathertop when Aragorn came there with the hobbis? Cause the night before that Gandalf was there and fought all 9 of them, with fire and explosions that could be seem from many miles away. In his own words - he was indeed pressed hard by them. Task of 5 wizards is a secret, no one knew who they really were nor what they were capable of.

I'm half way through this video and find it quite odd that you haven't mentioned the fact Gandalf is a primordial spirit, older than time and more powerful than all but 3 other beings in Middle Earth. Saurman, Saron and the Balrog. Since all 3 of the latter were weak enough to be corrupted into evil, and Gandalf wasn't, he was sent back to middle earth with promotion to the strongest being in middle earth...A true white wizard. Oh...And he wore one of the 3 uncorrupted elven rings of power, Narya. :D How did ya miss these very important powers?
