Whenever he talks about the dwarves or Oakenshield, you can really hear the disgust and anger in his voice. I love those small moments when Smaug's anger gets the better of him, he's so multi layered in his short screen time. He's extremely intelligent, narcissistic, psychopathically playful. And yet at the same time he's quick to anger, impulsive and overconfident. The fact that the dwarves "dared" come to his home and face him makes him leave that home he's been comfortable in for 60 years to commit mass slaughter, just to satisfy his fury

Kinda. While they did motion capture, the data was pretty much useless. Human and Dragon physiologies don't match at all. However, the animators did use Cumberbatch's performance as reference. That's terrifying honestly, when movie creatures reach a certain level of massiveness there's almost a safety to it, like it's huge but it means you can hide like a mouse in a hole and maybe move around it and it has to find you like a person trying to find a fly that's stopped buzzing. I even thought it was kind of silly that Smaug says there nowhere to hide, the complex is huge and surely there are plenty of places he wouldn't be able to break into, but if he can "sense" where you are with his scales then it doesn't even matter if he can't see you because he can starve you out and will feel you when you try to sneak by. Thanks for the nightmare fuel

I love Smaug so much, makes the second movie so much more enjoyable to me, I enjoy quoting him due to just how amazing his lines are. All of them are just perfect, he's a cold, ruthless beast, he put it best: "I kill where I wish. WHEN I wish!" and "You care about them, do you?? Good. Then you can watch them DIE." He is a monster simply by nature, and he's *loving* it. My second and third favorite quotes I can say by heart. "I am almost tempted to let you take it. If only to see Oakenshield *SUFFER.* Watch it destroy him...watch it corrupt his heart- and drive him MAD." and "I will not part with a single coin! Not. One. Piece of it!!" They encapsulate him perfectly, he's the best villain in my opinion, he's such a threat to everything that he comes across, he's confident he's unkillable, he's steady and methodical until his anger gets the best of him. He's the perfect mix of intelligent creature and animalistic beast, they NAILED him in the movie.

Every time he spoke he gave me chills down my spine even when he confronts bilbo about the lakeman about making him watch them die just blew my mind like how cold-hearted and evil he was to do that even though he got face to face and could've easily killed him, i don't think he wanted to kill Bilbo I think he wanted to make him suffer for the rest of this life if he did survive or not that alone shows more character than what the story reveled about him it would've be really nice to see him twice as massive as the book portrayed with this kind of acting

I like the sense that you get with Smaug that he really is connected to the dragons of old. The old dragons like Glaurung could hypnotise people and control them, or alter their memories. Here, we see Smaug is highly intelligent and prone to manipulating people, and revelling in their mental anguish, just as Glaurung did.
@Mokiefraggle Жыл бұрын
This! I was always a tiny bit disappointed that Jackson just decided that all of the dwarves of Durin's line were just...weak-willed and could fall into some kind of gold-madness, when this portrayal of Smaug just made it seem so clear that he could've done as Book!Smaug did, and laid a curse on the gold. In general, the Hobbit film trilogy felt _less_ magical than the Lord of the Rings trilogy, when the actual book always felt moreso. Middle Earth is a world of much more subtle magic (unless you're an Istari or other Maiar) than many other fantasy settings, but The Hobbit is full of it. That none of that was leaned into in the films, particularly the idea that a dragon's mere presence tainted and cursed the treasure it slept on, and that Smaug in particular had just kind of deliberately sunk all his malice into the treasure of Erebor...I was so disappointed.

I doubt Morgoth ever devised a language for the dragons specifically. I'm not sure if there's a mention in the lore of him devising any language for his underlings. The other Valar created languages for their followers or adopted language from the Eldar. Sauron devised Black Speech as a means of unifying the orcish tribes under his rule and likely as an ecclesiastical language in the lands he'd subjugated or cajoled to his side.

I find it interesting how after saying that he'll pay Laketown a visit, Smaug didn't outright attack Bilbo when the hobbit ran towards him considering that just minutes ago Smaug was intent on killing/burning him 😆 I mean, Bilbo was so damn near Smaug and all the dragon had to do was open his mouth to either chomp the hobbit down or reach him w/ dragon fire
@fruzsi83183 жыл бұрын
He could've killed him then, but he didn't because by that point he hated them so much that just killing them wasn't enough anymore. He wanted Bilbo to suffer knowing that a townful of people died, because of him. That is a much worse fate than death.
