Your tips are absolutely invaluable! I am just getting started and watching your videos helped me identify lots of mistakes I made and understand what went wrong. Now I will have to verify if I have the right understanding of my mistakes :P Hopefully I will soon be able to finish my friend's SIG 550 furniture!

Activation is the most frustrating part to learn and I definitely remember all the struggles I went through. I threw a lot of parts across the shop in anger and frustration. Just takes practice and I am glad you were able to figure it out. Thanks for checking out the video.

You should make your own activator mate. It's just xylene and thinner. 70/30 mix. People are making this and calling it activator. placing it in blank jugs and putting their own label and a 50 dollar price tag on it. Notice that none of them put the ingredients on the jug? Xylene 12 bucks. Thinner 7 bucks

LOL, that a fairly accurate assumption. I have had a few local wives call the shop and be like "you know we are broke, why do you keep dipping his stuff knowing we cant afford it" Well mam... Price depends on what film you buy and where you buy it from. I always order a minimum of 3 meters for all projects so I know I have enough for re-dos if needed. 90-92 degrees at the surface of the water... we just did a video on water temps if you want to check it out.

Today was my first attempt at this art. I dipped a wooden skate board blank. It came out pretty good. A few small imperfections but overall I was tickled to death. I rinsed it off for what seemed like forever then pat it dry. About an hour after that, I applied Rusto Oleum Acrylic Enamel clear over it. About 30 mins later the entire board was a mess. The Clear cost reacted with something and caused the print to crack and blister up. Any Suggestions?

can you apply rubber like the inpack makita
@AllThingsFunHydrographics
@AllThingsFunHydrographics 3 жыл бұрын
it will go onto rubber but it will not stick for very long! Rubber and silicone are some of the things I do not dip because it will not stay stuck to the surface.

I don't think its difficult at all. I bought some film and activator from Amazon then went to 99 cent store and bought a laundry basket with trash bag liner. first attempt was ok with a few imperfections, second temp was almost perfect, third attempt was great with only a trained eye able to see imperfections. I did one job which allowed me to cover initial costs to setup. I dont know if my experience in paint and body made it easier but it was a simple process. I am currently about to build a larger tank and start using wonder paint as base and start a new business dipping to cover any slow times my other businesses may come upon which is rare but always nice to be diversified.

Its really not, iv taught my 7 year old how to design and dip his own stuff, its so simple, i just make sure hes got his mask on and hes away, i only help him peel the film as we do our own designs

So of I'm going to hydrographic dip over my epoxied cups, is there any other special steps I need to take before dipping?
@AllThingsFunHydrographics
@AllThingsFunHydrographics 4 жыл бұрын
Scuff, paint, dip. It will be fine but it has to be painted so it will cover your epoxy. The dip wont stick without paint.

@@AllThingsFunHydrographics what if I scuff my epoxy layer then dip? So that way I can have my glittery goodness showing thru my translucent film.
@AllThingsFunHydrographics
@AllThingsFunHydrographics 4 жыл бұрын
@@sparklinmommaglitters553 if your going to do that then use intercoat clear. OHW sells it. Its just a clear paint that is dippable. Scuff your epoxy, spray a few coats of intercoat clear, dip, and thrn clear coat like normal.

@@sparklinmommaglitters553 no problem, got a video coming on using intercoat very soon. It works really good, and don't forget to use that link to OHW in the video description for 5$ off your order.

I held the can at an angle instead of straight down and the can spurted ruining the ink. It spread the design out too big from over activation.

Yup, got to be careful for that sputtering. I always spray a little off to the side before I start on the film.
