@Jimmy2Tech6 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply, been working a lot of hours! You should take a little deeper look at films, because there are many more then the typical flames and skulls. It really depends on what you are looking for. Personally a lot of the time for test dip purposes we use flames or skulls because you can usually find the film cheaper and at a plethora of places. We prefer dips with flags, colored carbon fibered looks, and camo patterns more particularly. So try not to let the skulls discourage you, because there are many other choices with a little searching. Regarding to making your own film patterns, my father and I both wish we had the means to make our own, maybe sometime in the near future? Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. :)

Good DIY video but one one major thing you guys failed to mention is that this process only works on Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) plastics. If you follow this same process on a parts made of polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PET), or Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) plastics, I can guarantee that the person following the process will have problems. The reason the process will not work on the other plastics is because every plastic except ABS needs to be "FLAME TREATED" to "out-gas" the release agents stuck in the plastics during the molding process. You need to identify the type of plastic you are working on First. All molded plastics have one identifiers mentioned above on the backside of the part. If you follow the instructions in this video and you are working with anything but ABS, you will get lifting during the painting process, separation during the dipping process and lifting at some point after the process......guaranteed! If you don't know what type of plastic you have "flame treat" the part to be safe.

have you ever done a motor cycle helmet great video loved it
@Jimmy2Tech2 жыл бұрын
We haven't done a motor cycle helmet, but dipping a helmet is like dipping a construction hard hat and they are pretty simple and look great when complete! Just make sure eif you do a helmet you don't have tape on the edges of the film so the film doesn't stretch as you push the helmet into the water. We used the tape in this example to stop the corners of the film from diving into the water and messing up the process. Bad film does that, ideally you'd be able to set the film on the water with no tape keeping up the corners.

Great video. Just one question. If want to tape a section off so it not covered do i pull the tape right after the dip or do i wait until it is completely dried just be fore i clear it? thanks guys!
@Jimmy2Tech3 жыл бұрын
Wait until it is dry before pulling off the tape. This will ensure everything comes of smooth and has a sharper edge. Depending on the item as well you can always lightly run a blade at the tapes edge before pulling off to make sure nothing extra tries to pull up with the tape. Good luck!

Too cool, not flashy but a little touch of class.

Stacey Vickery of course! There are also hundreds of designs to choose from. Not to mention it would be really cool to dip certain accessory pieces. Dad and I are working on the next video in a few days and I'm sure you'll love what we got coming for the next dip. My own personal idea.

@Jimmy2Tech3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it will deffinatwly last if you do the proccess right and use some quality clearcoat. Had it on there for like 3 years then ended up selling the truck but the dip was still on there! Thanks for the support:)

where would you get that film?? or how to you make that yourself? is it a special printer??
@Jimmy2Tech7 ай бұрын
We got a bunch of our film from Kansas Hydrographics we also purchased some on amazon that did well. You can print your own but it is a process. It is not really a special printer unless you want wide film. it is a special film though.

Amazing guys. Does removing the tape cause the print to tear or does it leave a smooth line of separation

How many applications are possible with one aerosol can of activator? Lets say on multiple projects the same size as the mirror you did in this video? Thank you in advances.
@Jimmy2Tech4 жыл бұрын
You're going to get quite a few. We've done a few dozen dips off of one can with various sized items. It goes a pretty decent way so you won't have to worry about only having enough for a dip or two. :)
