@@klayed [Edited for clarity] He's an a-hole because he didn't respond? You may be too quick to call him names. Especially when you think it through: How is this creator supposed to read Every comment in Every thread on Every video? That's not always possible because he can have several videos per week. Each of these videos can have hundreds or thousands of comments. Plus, he has to do the research, filming, and editing for each video's content (which takes a lot of time even if he has someone editing for him). And, do things in his every day life, like get sleep, spend time with family and friends, run errands, etc. This is how it works. Brand new channels can get back to comments easier because they don't have many viewers. But, the more viewers and comments a channel/videos gets, the more difficult it is for the content creator to read through and respond to them all, so they'll just respond to a few and the rest is about viewers chatting with each other in the thread. So, maybe another viewer will respond to that question. Just something to think about

@AllThingsSecured2 жыл бұрын
In my experience, speeds are dependent on so many factors beyond the control of a VPN company. In my opinion, the reviewers who are comparing speeds are just blowing smoke. It’s a mostly useless metric.

Yes, speed is very important factor for me too. If your home connection is at least 50 Mbps, I think most of the slowdowns will come from the VPN side. And there're many factors: do they configure the servers correctly, how many servers they have, how many servers in the country that you want to link to etc.

Granted, having people from those countries doing the same would be ideal but I think that you could get some interesting data anyway. As a person who wants to be slightly safer when connecting via "dodgy" wi-fi for work purposes, your video seems to have no real value for me. I work for a bigger IT company that works with those online services requests as well, and we have to contact the customer to confirm the cancelation, since in 75% of the cases they made a mistake and they keep the service...so relying on cst saying "I wand to cancel" would end in his business having a massive service outage. Feedback from cst was often "I didn't knew what it was, so I selected cancel, then asking iIT and telling me they need it" ... boss has no idea, IT said we need a service, get the Ok and then boss sees the invoice and wants to get rid of it. When we don't get a response we keep the service active and close the case when there is a paid service involved. But with the opening of the SR the 30 day refund time gets frozen, so even when the case gets completed after 35 days they still get full refund.

I appreciate the video! I actually got an email (in my dedicated VPN email account 😉) from my VPN service 30 days before the auto renewal. They quoted a renewal price that seemed high - especially compared to what they charge for new subscriptions. No information in the email about how to opt out of auto renewal - not surprising. When I logged on to manage my billing settings, there was an “offer” I could claim that added 18 months to my subscription for the same price it would have automatically renewed at if I had not done anything. The price for 30 months in total was very reasonable. Still, it’s kinda stinks that they don’t automatically renew at the lower price for existing customers. They are definitely looking to take advantage of people’s inertia.

Josh as an ex UK Microsoft Certified Trainer who taught quite a few Internet related courses but mainly TCP/IP albeit back in the good days of the 1990/00s - you generally come out on top on here. That is not just my opinion but from an anonymous Teckie website I started in 1996 that has over 3000 members now. Having spent a few years stood in front of very demanding, knowledgeable and full-blown geeks, I am used to being put under pressure and the awkward question that come from such Teckies. But my four below, are quite easy except no one ever replies and only serve to fuel a sense of all KZbinrs offering videos like this, even though saying they are sponsored are in fact are. 1) USING EXCELLENT BAIT Due to finding out from ex-students a fairly well known VPN provider who had excellent support staff was taken over by new management, causing most to jump ship, I started out to find a new one. Spent a good time, used to direct line and ability to talk found that I would have to use chat, After four EXCELLENT chats with support staff that I could straight away could tell they knew their stuff and I joined SurfShark with a two-year subscription. A few days later, having a problem with SS, I now found when using SurfShark that ALL the photos of support stuff were now young females and quite attractive. On chatting to, it was obvious they were just cut and painting standard saved replies and even on asking very simple questions on TCP/IP knowledge had none. Before shouts of sexist, please note, back in the 1980/90s as an ICT Teacher (from industry) I fought hard and long to get girls to have GCSE Computer Studies on their list of GCSE options plus making a nuisance of my self of getting failed Typing Course of 23 girls to move over to a new GCSE Information Technology course. My point is that with SurfShark that before parting with my money I got only young males who really knew their stuff (better than me in some cases) but afterwards as were mainly young females who no way were good enough 2. WHO NEEDS TO GO TO SCHOOL In the same vein as 1) above and if expected to be paying for technical support regarding the use of VPN, I do expect in return the person I am chatting to, will have knowledge of what a Virtual Private Network is, and not when asked they did not know what the acronym VPM stands for. Sadly this is just not for the VPN industry but generally from any IT related support service people be it banks, major companies or organization when my query is in regard to IT and even to my amazement is the same for many software and hardware companies. More and more I find on asking the basic concepts of how do we define the first three classes of TCP/IP ranges i.e. Class A,B & C let alone their standard Octet Values, 0-126, 128-191 and 192-233 the support person has no idea what I am talking about. If I do, I always hear the clicking of keyboards of them looking them up. Possibly I am bias having in total 47 years teaching and training IT and I do not expect them to be able to match me, but I DO EXPECT if I or a standard punter paying for an IT product such as a VPN service, should have a basic or elementary understanding of the product they are using. 3. DEVALUING THE IMPORTANCE OF TRAINED SUPPORT STAFF FOR THE SAKE OF MAKING EVEN MORE PROFIT I now fortunately have only two months to go with SurfShark and on several occasions asked to be released and be refunded the months I have left, especially pointing out no way will I be renewing my subscription, the time waiting to chat ridiculous, even if you have filled in the precursory input box, it is never read and you get just the premade question asking you what your query, which I now have ready to paste in, after putting in your first question an incredibly long wait until you get a reply which I know full well is the support person is not giving their time and attention to the customer but maybe a 'round-robin' of10 customers, seeing so often by getting a reply that has absolutely nothing to do with your given query but was for some one else. Surfshark's method of support is just to advise in trying a new protocol configuration i.e. WireGuard, OpenVPN or IKEv2 and hope that may sort the problem out. When doing this and it does not, I find on getting another support person, I am told to do this all over again. 4( BEING HONEST ABOUT WEBSITES USING VPN RECOGNITION SW Finally one that even you, I expect, will not talk about and is the not surprisingly 'fight-back' by companies for fact collecting purposes, security and marketing purposes now have VPN recognition software triggering containment or denial services. Since with Surkshark I have made it clear a good half of well known websites, my banking sites, Amazon and eBay plus many others will not allow access to their sites and as such I have to switch SurkShark off and then in some cases (but that is also being recognized) to be able to purchase items, do financial actions or access just general website information. This need to switch SurfShark on and off, often (and I am certainly not alone) we FORGET to switch surShark back on and thus find we have been surfing with no protection we have paid for. (Yes have tried AutoON but does not work) Having taught encryption systems, I understand websites have to protect themselves, but my four points above are never covered by YOU Josh and others like you on KZbin.

I appreciate the feedback. I’m not sure why you’re pointing such a damning finger at me when this video isn’t pushing any particular VPN nor am I completely ignoring your points. If other KZbinrs haven’t replied to you, I can imagine it’s because you come across as rude and spending way too much time worrying about a refund for a $60 subscription that you should have replaced years ago with or without a refund.

Proton is highly suspect. As one who was a huge fan of ProtonMail when it came out, it gives me no pleasure to say that. Firstly, in spite of the impressive-sounding commitment to absolute privacy, many people in the tech world suspect them of being affiliated with a major intelligence agency. Do I know if they are? No. But here's what set off major alarm bells for me: Years ago I purchaseD an upgrade from Proton for Mail & VPN. The next day I was notified by my bank that a suspicious charge had been attempted on my account, originating from China. My bank had automatically canceled my debit card number, forcing me to order a new one. The suspicious charge? Proton. So why in the hell is a Swiss company, that spends so much time spouting off about internet security and privacy, processing CC charges through a shady Chinese bank?? Things that make you go "hmmmm"...

I have ExpressVPN. I got 3 months free plus an extra 3 months because I used the name of a talk show host. That's 6 months free! Also, my debit card expires in another year.

Nice start, but I think we all want part two. How easy is it to use. I don't even know why I want a vpn. Just to watch more movies? I'm going to check out your other video on vpn's and see if that fills in my blancs.

I keep getting an "Access Denied" error when I'm banking, using streaming sites like Netflix, and even certain shopping sites. When you need that extra security the most , for example online banking, that's when I have to turn it off. I use my built in McAfee VPN. FYI I couldn't even post this comment without turning off my VPN because it said failed to post! Its annoying!

I gotta say, though...I am less concerned about a refund policy and I am more concerned about where the VPN is located (i.e., which country are they based in) and whether they are notorious for DNS leaks. Now I am curious as to how Proton VPN stacks up to Mullvad...because I could save myself $60/year. haha

I have lived and worked in Asian for nearly 10 years now. I personally rate and recommend: 1). Astrill and 2). Express VPN. Neither are the cheapest. But I always went for reliability and fast speed. Astrill has never let me down so far..

Thanks. It would additionally be good to know which providers have open source clients or, preferably, which ones allow for manual OpenVPN and WireGuard setup. I don't trust or use closed source software.

So I find a number of VPN Providers can be very deceptive. I asked them to explain their re-billing amount as I based Nord on a 12-month, but it was 15 months. Then based on this I looked at what it would cost me just monthly and based on a 15-month amount. 15 months would have been more expensive and they really could not explain why. At the end of the day I would pay monthly as it would be cheaper and I would not have to pay upfront. Maybe I might be able to get a deal in a year for renewal, but then again maybe not. I think a great number of them do not want you to know what the rebilling amount will be. Just something to be curious about. Yearly normally should be less expensive VPN re-billing does not seem to be.

Thanks for the information Josh. All the more reason to use Privacy virtual card. And set it to a one time use. It may not help with the 30 day money guarantee. But they damn sure won't be able to auto renew. 👍

I usually don't use vpn. I think it's too expencive. But when i could buy nord vpn for 2 years for under 40$ per year i got that. So i use vpn now. Most on my phone. And that's because i just use my phone most. I sometimes need to pause the vpn to get on websites and some streamimg services. But 99% of my use i don't even notice i have a vpn. Expect that the ads i see seems to not be as targeted towards me as they use to be.

I am a former subscriber of ExpressVPN. After their purchase by Kape Technologies, I immediately started looking another VPN service. When a company expands from ad serving toward being a VPN provider, it doesn’t bode well. ExpressVPN was the most difficult cancellation process that I have EVER been through for an auto renewal service. I went on the ExpressVPN website three times to cancel auto renewal. Each time I logged in to confirm the cancellation, I found that it was still set for auto renewal. I spent an hour with an online chat agent trying to get a confirmed cancellation of auto renewal. I asked nicely. Was told “you can do this for yourself on the website.” I got not so nice. I explained that I had done that three times….and it repeatedly reset auto renewal to on. I was put on hold…five times…so the agent could find a supervisor who knew how to cancel auto renewal. The script followed by the agent was vague…and infuriating. After an hour, a supervisor assured me that auto renewal was deactivated. I finally received an email confirming cancellation of auto renewal. Up until the last hour before my subscription expired, I was checking the ExpressVPN website to ensure that auto renewal was off. It is extremely suspicious. I switched to IVPN and I am loving the performance and the multi-hop option. I also like that the anti tracking is offered at a regular level and a “hardcore” mode that defeats Facebook and Google’s tracking schemes. Mullvad and Mozilla VPN were the only other VPNs I would consider. They are independently audited with published results. They are also based on an open source code. Keep an eye out for any news of your VPN being acquired by another company. It can change your privacy dramatically.
