I love the 1920s. The way they emphasize on natural beauty and I just love the look on the girl, especially the colour of that dress and her hair. And shouldnt the pencil thin eyebrows be in 1920s as well? Because of the silent films and pictures of silent actresses I've seen. Correct me if Im wrong.
@Ziaberry7 жыл бұрын
Probably not, because they used makeup to draw in the thin eyebrows so you could actually see it, and even though women began wearing makeup in the '20s, it was still harshly condemned. It was more acceptable for actresses to wear it, but for the rest of women, they were really looked down upon by most of society and they faced a lot of backlash. Pageants featured more upper class, "refined" women who stuck to the tradition of keeping a clean face. Sorry for the rant lol, I'm just a huge history nerd

@@Ziaberry why, history is an awesome subject to talk about. But honestly, I just love that look the best for this topic video. Pencil drawn eyebrows were 1920s alright but it must've existed in the 1900 or 1910s. By the way, when did Charlie Chaplin, his leading lady Edna, Clara Bowman and Mary Pickford become movie stars and popular?

The 1930s makeup is wrong. Dark eyeshadows were popular on the previous decade. In the 30s the make up was toned down, with thin eyebrows, mascara and red lipstick. Darker shades were more popular in the 20s than in the 30s, specially due to improvements on the quality of movies.
@carolinesa917 жыл бұрын
Mary Trancy I am not saying the 1920s should be looking like flappers, I am questioning the beauty pageants of the 1930s having a typical flapper look. Just google Miss America in some random year and you will see they generally wear red lipstick and almost no eyeshadow. Here is an example: Miss America in 1935 - pinterest.com/pin/462393086712178449/?source_app=android

I just got done studying about this in my women’s history class. They made Miss America around the 1920s and The look was to be natural and to be the perfect housewife. It was to try to counteract the flapper movement

As a pageant enthusiast, I really appreciated and enjoyed this video. 80s were my personal favorite. Not so much the makeup but the gown. 80s were all about the theatrical gowns with the big bows and peplum covered in metallic silk fabric. Pageant dresses in the 80s showed a lot of personality.

@RickyChen7 жыл бұрын
models were probably selectively picked. being thin was the thing in 1920s, so they chose a waif model, so on. it would be cool to see more body types, but for accuracy id like to see what the ideal body shape of that era was.

There is a huge range of body types and body fat percentages that are healthy- and beautiful. You just seem hateful and judgemental which is sad. I ask for something more diverse than a size two and you counter by calling that fat and in-beautiful? That's a pretty ugly works view if you ask me.

@valeriancmw49757 жыл бұрын
They were the cutting edge thing, but they didn't make it to the beauty pageants until later. There are other trends in the video that you'll notice are more reflective of the decade before than the decade they're from (lip gloss in the 2010s is the most noticeable) because beauty pageants are less about the 'mode' than they are about the commonly recognized standards of beauty-- and those can take time to adjust.
@mirellymiranda39996 жыл бұрын
no... dark lids and thin brows were a thing for silent movie actresses and flappers. The rest of the US looked down upon women who wore makeup. Pageants were mostly for the upperclass and the upper class did not wear much makeup because they stuck to normality of society at the time.
