While the sentiment is certainly appreciated, this is an embarrassment to the art of Drag. This video clearly shows there was either no budget, no real knowledge of Drag or just a way to capitalize on the popularity of drag. Next time hire drag queens to do something speaking on 100 Years of Drag Makeup. This $1.98 budget isn’t it. And that’s being generous on the budget.

Totally agree. They should’ve let the queens they hired to model do their own makeup... or hired drag makeup artists if they wanted the painting on camera... I live in NYC and have seen three of these queens and they are absolutely fierce, and incredibly talented, and I’m sure they were mortified...

As a drag queen I’m highly offended by this video. You should’ve had a drag queen makeup artist not someone that looked at drag pictures. Horrible application! Horrible execution! Bad video! needs to be redone and someone that knows their way around a mans face to feminize and apply should do it. So upsetting :(

Lol right?? Like the visible lace on the lace front wig XD. The point of a lace front is so the hairline doesn't show and even then, if they're going off of historical accuracy, it's highly improbable that queens in the 1950s would have access to a lace front. Other than Hollywood/ Broadway, they only became accessible in the last 10 years, if that.

I don’t hate this video but there are a lot of things that could’ve been done differently. Firstly, maybe have a drag queen to do the makeup? For me as a queen, I find that my face is more extravagant that “normal” beauty makeup. It’s as if beauty makeup is water colours and drag makeup is acrylic paint. You can use a paintbrush on them both but you require different skills to master them both. Second, this shows a very closed view of the drag community. Men dressing up as women or more traditionally feminine. Drag was hugely influenced by things such as the club kids movement, ballroom, rupaul, and the trans community. We have so many wonderful performers that do drag so I believe that it’s very one-sided to not mention those influences in a video titled “the history of drag”. Lastly this video reminds us that somewhere in the world, it is always 5’oclock

This is a really depressing representation of the artistry that is drag makeup. I don't know if they just don't give them any time? Or if it was just too out of their wheelhouse? Sad.

Love the sentiment of the video but y’all really should’ve collabed with actual drag queens for this, just on principle, but also because the eyebrow blocking... horrendous. Redo!

I know Allure felt so good having all those POC on set. And I’m proud of you too, but for 100 years of drag - I probably would’ve hired professional drag queens 🤷🏾‍♀️ I’m no big time magazine exec, but oh God @ 3:39 🤦🏾‍♀️ It takes a lot to disrespect Divine yet you managed

The reference picture for the 1940s has the best make-up in the entirety of this video. I'm a drag performer and watching this video is just embarrassing, and kind of offensive. I am gobsmacked at how poorly executed each look was. It genuinely looked like there was no care for quality and just wanted to seem on trend. If you truly want to do drag justice use drag performers with make-up artistry - that isn't hard to come by. It is clear as daylight that the make-up artists in this video are out of the depth here. Take a leaf out of Vanity Fairs book with their 100 Years of Drag. The models did a great job though.

That makeup ain’t it sis. It’s like they put it on in five minutes while also having no idea what they’re doing. And are we just gonna ignore the wigs?

Everyone in the comments chill! The makeup was meant to match the time period in which the artists back then would do it. It wasn’t sculpted and perfect like how it is today. Back then it was meant to look costumey as part an act. They didn’t know better. Today, it’s more seen as a lifestyle not an act, and the drag artists are well equipped and know how to produce a face “beat for the gawds” in today’s world. Think about the access men had back then to things like make up and women’s clothing without harsh criticism or the worst physical abuse. Back then it was simply for entertainment purposes. Today, it’s apart of everyday life, drag culture, entertainment, fun, etc.

Plus not every mua is a god at every style of makeup every mua has a niche that they do the best in. These are just reinterpretations and people love to rip this channel to shreds as if they are trying to harm someone. It's just makeup.

I think the main issue was the lack of underpainting, they needed way more setting powder and better foundation, all the foundation looked yellowish and the eyebrows were barely glued down. I do think the eyeshadow always slayed and the eyebrows were on point tho
