Beautiful was so ahead of its time. I've never been the biggest fan of hers, but this song and video was the first when I saw two men kissing. I was 12 and I already felt stg is different in me. Christina helped me through the situation as a child and said throughout that I am okay like this, no matter what people say. Today it is a cliche but for a 12 year old child that was the most important message that I could get so thank you.

She doesn't have to prove anything to anyone. She's a living legend, and she has the ability to make music for her fans and not for the general public. Other artists who stop caring about commercial performance create subpar music that underperforms, while her latest album received critical acclaim and created hits in the Latin market that will become staples of the genre. You don't lose legend status (or the ability to create good music) once you stop chasing charts, but you create music that will transcend time. Nothing any of her competitors are putting out now will be referenced in the years to come, whereas songs like La Reina, No Es Que Te Extrañe, Fall In Line, Unless It's With You, etc. will continue to have influence despite not being Hot 100 #1 hits. People who only care about chart performance will never understand Christina.

As she said herself, she truly took a social backlash hit for Dirty, I remember in 2002, 20 years ago how 'explicit' that was to my teenage eyes (cause of 90's sweet pop decade), ironically, similar to what Chloe is experiencing now. Women wanting to claim their sexuality publically after a 'sweet' phase will always have rocks thrown at us, but I truly applaud her courage, her grit to stay authentic and the video that truly pulls me through the current darkness is 'Fighter'. Love her in blonde/black/red hair, how she wears so, so many incredible styles flawlessly. The 'play' with her looks definitely comes through her videos, they're fun to watch. Forever a fashion icon of music for me!

Yes, Stripped was a creative triumph and deserves the love. But Back To Basics doesn't get enough credit. That project is a masterpiece both musically and visually, and Xtina deserves to be honored as the Queen of throwback, having brought those looks and sounds into the mainstream years before Bruno Mars, Adele and others made careers off that vintage/retro aesthetic.
