I am a chef and adore cooking all steak types to perfection. Huge steaks = more char/sear is needed outside to get the inside cooked to the proper temp. Also, the thicker the steak, the less you taste the seasoning/salt, because they only season the bark of the steak, not the inside of course. And considering both of those points, a good steak sauce, such as the peppercorn sauce served here is normal and desirable, for both the nessesary seasoning and moisture profiles.

I got the beef wellington when I was there last... I wasn't impressed. Partially because I'm not in to baked meat, but it tasted like banquet food... it didn't taste cooked to order. Since it's the specialty of the house, they probably make 3 or 4 at a time, IMO. The GR Vegas restaurants are more about brand recognition than taste/value. To me, Hank's Fine Steaks @ Green Valley Ranch is one of the best steakhouses in Vegas.

DALLAS must be one of the steak house capitals of the world along with NYC and Las Vegas.. there is the $7.99 steak special at Ellis Island and several top tier steak houses. Hi Derek. You should have ordered the Japanese A5. You would not have regretted it. A5 is the highest possible quality rating awarded by the Japanese government. A5 is the highest grade given only to the finest beef. The standards of grading beef consist of Yield Grade and Quality Grade. “A” of “A5” means the yield grade, while “5” shows the quality grade. The Beef Marbling Standard (BMS) determines the rating based on how much marbling is present in meat. The greater the degree of marbling the closer the ranking moves up toward 5. There is also the Beef Fat Standard (BFS) that determines the rating by the color of fat. The highest grade has glossy white to deep cream colored fat. The Beef Color Standard (BCF) determines the rating in accordance with the color of the red meat. The final standard is “Firmness and Texture” and the ratings for this standard are determined by the naked eye and touch. A5 is THE top grade.

That’s absolutely NOT TRUE! I never understood that ridiculous philosophy! There are a few other seasonings that, sparingly, are phenomenal on steaks & take the flavor to a whole other level! Garlic, Basil & Rosemary. Try the seasoning they use at Longhorn for example. It’s so damn delicious it would make A SHOE taste good! BTW, (if you ask your waiter, you can buy a small bag for 5$). I put it on my steaks at home, hamburgers, potatoes & French fries. It’s the BOMB!!!!!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

That’s bare minimum, simple salt and pepper. Plenty of other seasonings that would make the steak taste WAY better

@tureal jones He's saying in his opinion it's all that should be needed for high quality meat(though he didn't specify that I think that's what he means), low quality tends to need more but it can cover up the complexities in higher quality meat, like wild game or grass-fed beef. Grain-fed beef fat is pretty tasteless where grass-fed is softer and way more complex, more flavors in the meat too so I can see why some even like it totally plain. When steakhouses overdo seasonings there's usually a reason why, it's suspect. A really high-end steakhouse that knows what they're doing isn't going to blatantly overdo seasonings, but it's still risky because it's hard to know what the customer is going to like and everyone's palate is a bit different. By far my main staple food is 80/20 grass-fed ground beef cooked medium or less, I cook 2lbs at a time(lasts ~2 days) and just eat it cold and plain(maybe Redmond's Real Salt), it's so good. But supermarket ground beef would be awful that way and no way would I trust under-cooking it where some is close to raw I'd totally brown it, the fat would be waxy and tasteless but even cold the rendered fat of grass-fed is still pretty soft and the taste is really good plain. He's not telling anyone else what to do so calm down lol. I love people who act like others sharing their opinion is somehow oppressing people. I doubt he really cares what you do with your steak, by all means have it well done with ketchup if you like that, but I see why people think it's a bit ignorant of people to do certain things with high quality cuts of meat versus low quality. I guess it's also worth noting the more you add to a steak that's already complex and great on it's own, the more can go wrong, it can be difficult to get what you use and how much of certain things right for balance aside from risking covering up a steak's natural complexities, with low quality meat that's the whole point. High quality salt happens to be a great flavor enhancer too so it's not just adding it's own flavor, it's really hard to go wrong. I can totally understand the more advanced and experienced chefs experimenting with seasonings of course, or just trying something different if your diet is close to carnivore like mine, I do sometimes. I love mixing sauerkraut in the ground beef.

Try the horse ride up close to the entrance to a red rock Canyon. Note: Make reservations. They take you up the mountain at dusk. You get to the top and there is a fire pit burning and the best steaks. The rest of the food is great and the view of the strip is remarkable. When done you ride back down to your vehicle.

That steak looks terrible. Definitely would expect a better steak for that kind of money. Everything else looks wonderful.

I think you made a mistake of changing the name of your channel. If anything you should have changed it to "All You Can Vegas with Derek Thomas" unless you sold the channel name.

Was very underwhelmed with our dinner at GR’s Steak !! The steak was no better that a steak at Outback Steakhouse. The fish entree was small and powered by the sauce that it was swimming in. On a final note the service was almost nonexistent for most of our mediocre meal !! Gordon should practice what he screams at his chef’s and wait staff. Total failure. GR you are a DONKEY !! Our visit to GR’s Steak was in Feb. 2019.

I visited that Outback Steakhouse on the strip before, and the meals and service was amazing! Even the sauces were amazing! .... and lets be honest... if you're in an Outback Steakhouse... it's ok to get the sauces! =)

Everything I've ever eaten at Steak has been superb. Everything. Chef Ramsay has a reputation, and you can bet his staff takes their work seriously. It does cost money, but that seemed more than fair for the exceptional food and service. It's a treat. But at least it's a real one!

I was actually there a couple months ago. The Wellington was delicious but the American Wagyu Sliders were insane. What caught my totally off guard was how good the potato wedges served with them though. It was totally unexpected. The Mule aka Donkey cocktail was also one of the best cocktails I've ever had
