New baby swiftie here! I'm almost 30 and was fully in the "I hate Taylor for no reason other than internalized misogyny" camp for YEARS. The ONLY song I LOVED of hers throughout the years was Mean. I would literally say I hate tswift but mean is a banger lol. I really started opening up to her music after watching Miss Americana on Netflix and it made me CRY. The next year, midnights came out and my love of her solidified! I'm currently learning her backlog of music (i've been through my rep era, my folklore era, and now dipping my toes into evermore) but I'm a person that LOVES hearing backstory and connections to songs, since I dont really know where to start in an album. THANK YOU for being so welcoming and excited and sharing all your elder swiftie knowledge, i'm obsessed with your energy!

The Story of Us is gold! I never ever ever get sick of it, it’s such a well rounded presentation of anger, frustration, affection, confusion, disappointment and shows just how complicated relationships are. I know she wrote it about a romance but the song helped me a ton to get through a breakup that I had with my best friend because Taylor’s emotions are so so raw. I love Taylor and Ally!!!!

Dear John is one of my favorite Taylor songs ever. I was 7 when Speak Now came out and listened to it for years. Now I’m 20 and actually understand the lyrics. Listening to the album at the same age Taylor was when she wrote it is a whole different experience. The change from “I should’ve known” to “YOU should’ve known” always gets me!

No song has ever made me feel the same way I felt when I heard seven from the folklore album. Being the oldest daughter in a Mexican family and being the the first Mexican American in the family comes with its down sides. That not a lot of people can understand Having to grow up and mature before others , before I was ready. Being so scared to disappoint my parents, knowing everything that they gave up to give me the opportunities that I have today. When she sings the bridge it feels like she’s talking to me. The lyrics hold such a deep meaning for me. Seven is my all time favorite song from Taylor, it holds a every special place in my heart.

It's crazy to think the first Taylor song I loved was "Our Song" all the way back in Debut era, and yet I didn't become a true Swiftie until 1989. It is too hard to pick a favorite song but, I will say that I'm about to walk down the aisle to an instrumental version of "Lover" at my wedding in 22 days so I think that is going to forever have a special place in my heart 🥰

My favorite Taylor Swift song has always been enchanted. I had never been in love before when Speak Now originally came out but there were a few people that had left me wonderstruck and hopeful that it would turn into something more. It just describes that feeling so beautifully. I played the song so much in my car that all my friends who were not swifties would belt out the lyrics with me. Memories ❤

Haunted is currently my favorite song! I’ve loved it since I was nine years old. Just the urgency in the song and her gasping for air between lyrics really encapsulates the emotions she’s trying to portray. Also her live performance with the bell is iconic 🔔

I grew up listening to Taylor Swift on the radio. Being a 23 year old woman I haven't known life without her music, but for me, Reputation was the first album that really made me fall in love with her. It was very different from anything she had put out before and it really spoke to my rage filled, longing, romantic, angsty 17 year old self. I remember waiting for each music video to come out and watching them over and over on KZbin.

It is crazy to me that Speak Now actually sold less than her debut, to me that is THE TS album. I started listening to her in debut era because my parents listened to country pop radio; “Our Song” was the first song of hers I ever heard. I had the Fearless CD, but when my sibling got the Speak Now CD it was all I ever wanted to listen to! I was obsessed with it, and I loved finding the hidden messages in the album booklet! Unfortunately when “Red” came out I kind of fell out of listening to her because I was still a country music girlie and I felt betrayed 🥲 so then I didn’t really pay attention to 1989 or Rep, and I’m angry at my past self for that because the first time I listened to Rep (years after its release) I was FLOORED by how good it was. Anyway, I started listening to her again in Lover era casually and then folklore saved my life in 2020 and now I’m in deep 😂

I heard it for the first time when I was 7 listening to Speak Now for the first time (the first album I ever owned and the best album ever made in my opinion) and it STILL gives me chills every single time. This album will always rise to the top for me. Enchanted’s bridge is a reminder of my friend (another Taylor fan) who passed away a few months before the album’s release. Clean is such a stunning track. Blank Space is a stroke of creative genius. Our Song is a BOP. Mirrorball hits way too close to home. You’re On Your Own Kid is perfection. You can’t make me pick one. You can’t.

When I was a kid and I knew about Taylor's music but not the pop culture or meaning behind the songs, I associated Innocent with my dad. He made a lot of unsavory choices in his own life when I was young and I always wanted to say "it's okay, all you have to do is change, you can still be innocent." That song kept me hopeful for a long time. And he did eventually turn his life around, and we're closer than ever now 💜

My favorite song right now is Hits Different. I love the way its addition to Midnights was more or less a dramatic declaration that it's Joe-ver, and thus completely changed the entire context of the album. I feel like it's addition to the lineup made the other songs completely new to me again, and I just love how symbolic and dynamic this album has become. Beyond that, I also feel like Taylor does SUCH a good job on Hits Difference in balancing an upbeat sound with lyrics that are funny and heartbreaking. I just feel like Taylor's "mastermind" side really comes through in this track's release.

This is the MOST magical time to be a Swiftie!!! The Era’s tour and the re-recording era. We are so blessed. I became a fan in 2008 after hearing Love Story for the first time ✨🫶🏻✨ It’s almost illegal to pick a favourite TS song or even a favourite album but I’m picking Willow - because in 2020 during the lockdown my cat and bestie of 22 years died and I was heartbroken! Then later that year I ended up getting a new little kittens that I named Willow. A few weeks later Taylor dropped evermore as a surprise album and that the opening track and lead single was called Willow! That was Willow’s first ever Taylor album to experience with me and it is the most special thing. “Life was a Willow” 🥹 it felt like a sign from Taylor. - That is my, very unhinged, answer! 😂😻

Speak Now held my hand through some of the darkest years of my entire life. I honestly don't know where I'd be without Taylor. I first heard her singing Fifteen live on some XM-radio station before Debut came out. I loved her instantly! I told everyone I knew about this new girl I heard on the radio and I will never to be able to explain the excitement I felt when I heard Debut for the first time. I showed everyone while screaming "this is her! This is the girl I've been talking about!" My brother and I have been Swifties ever since. I'm 38 now and he's 33. We've been pointing at her picture telling everyone her name both before and after we had kids. Swifties for life 💖

I could NEVER choose a favorite song from Taylor's, it's practically impossible. I've been a fan of hers through most of her eras and I'm going to choose two Speak Now songs that are SO meaningful to me. Enchanted was exactly how I felt when I met my current boyfriend and the love of my life. Mine describes how I feel about us and our story. During the pandemic I'd go to his place and I didn't have a drawer but I couldn't tell you which clothes of mine were at his place and which at my home. Now we live together and we are planning to get married and it makes me emotional every time I listen to it. I can't believe how long I've been a swiftie for and videos like these where we look back at Taylor's career it also makes us see how long we have come as well

My favorite taylor swift song is EASILY Enchanted. When I was 10, both me and one of my childhood best friends moved (across the country to completely opposite sides) at the same time. I was, of course, sad, but because we were mainly friends when we were little, I kinda forgot about him. But one day, THREE years later, my mom told me he was going to have a major surgery and that his mom had a blog documenting it all. And that blog helped me rediscovered this boy who I used to know so well. Every day, I checked the blog looking for an update on his situation. I learned a lot about him, and saw some pictures of what he looked like now. I fell in love (obviously not REAL love, but I was definitely intensely infatuated). It made me realize how much I missed him and wanted to see him again. I discovered the song Enchanted around this time (before it blew up on tiktok and now everyone loves it), but that song really reeeeally spoke to me. Because it was about the overwhelming desire to see someone again, and since you don’t actually know anything about them, you hope they aren’t in love. It’s about the whimsical and almost irrational feeling of falling in love in a split second, and making it a central theme/important moment in your life. And that was EXACTLY how I felt. I wanted, more than ANYTHING in the ENTIRE WORLD to see him again. I wanted to love him again. But over the course of the next few years, neither him or I traveled close to where the other person lived, and so I never got to see him. It’s been 6 years since I discovered Enchanted, and it isn’t any less special to me now than it was then. I get so emotional and almost cry every time I listen to it. And guess what! FINALLY, after nearly 8 years of not even speaking to this boy, I get to see him again NEXT WEEK!!! I’m finally visiting him and his family and I could not be more excited. I’m so grateful for the song Enchanted because It’s carried me through this fantasy for so long. Thank you taylor swift 🫶 insta: abby_carolina6

Better Man is my favorite because of just how raw and honest it is. As someone who went through a similar situation of just wanting someone to be better, and knowing that it was better to leave than stay, it brings me to tears every time. It’s just one of those songs that is never a skip and just show how immensely talented Taylor is at capturing situations like this. 💜💜

Being around the same age she wrote and experienced everything she did that inspired this album. I can say I experienced some of these things felt these things and understand the feelings she is showing.

My favorite song is Illicit Affairs. I love every second of it. During one of the darkest, loneliest time of my life, this was one of the few songs that my heart could hear. I used to replay the first 15 seconds over and over because of how lovely it sounds. The gentle string plucking and whimsical whispery vocals always soothed my racing anxiety. The lyrics would wrap gauze over my wounds. I could relate to every aspect of the song from making yourself hidden (“hood over your head, keep your eyes down”) to frustration building and the feeling of everything falling apart (“look at this godforsaken mess that you made me, you showed me colors you know I can’t see with anyone else”). Illicit Affairs actually feels like a “secret language I can’t speak with anyone else” to me. It pulls me out of the whirlpool of overthinking and into a place where I can see more clearly. Illicit Affairs is truthful, nurturing, painful, and accepting. From the guitar plucking and whispers to the cathartic strumming and holding back from screaming the words, Illicit Affairs guides me through the midnight forest and into the light of the spring. My KZbin algorithm suggested your video and I don't regret watching it, I became a swiftie in the SPEAK NOW era, but got detached to taylor for a long time after that, but again I came back in the 1989 era, and here I am crying over SPEAK NOW, man the charm SPEAK NOW has that can't be replicated in any of the albums. Every one of the songs make me cry and open up the wounds.

‘Mine’ was my favourite Taylor Swift song as a child and even now after many years, it still is. I remember stumbling across the music video when I was about 10 and being mesmerized by the story she was telling. And when I re-listened to it last year, I cried because I now deeply related to the lyrics. ‘You learn my secrets and you figure out why I’m guarded’ ‘braced myself for the goodbye, cause that’s all I’ve ever known, but you took me by surprise, you said ‘I’ll never leave you alone’’ I didn’t really understand those words as a child but lord knows I do now. Even though the song hits hard for me, it’s become very healing and reassuring because in the end it works out. ‘Dear John’ is also a recent favourite of mine due to it applying almost perfectly to a pretty traumatic friendship break up I went through last July (not so funnily enough). I can’t wait for Taylor’s version’s of both the songs!

My favorite Taylor song is constantly changing for many reasons, the power that this woman has to create so many songs that are catchy, emotional and absolute bops, but at the current moment my fave is Snow on the Beach ft more Lana del Rey, it just sounds so melodic, something that could play in my wildest dreams, and Lana, God, that women, she litteraly made me ascend to heaven, and it actually is a very good metaphor to love to snow, because it's true, love is weird yet it's beautiful!

My favorite Taylor song of all time is The Lucky One. “Why?” You might ask, well here’s why: Number 1: the overall message. Overlooking the boy this song is about, this song is all about someone in the spotlight realizing how much the spotlight will effect their life. She realizes that her life will not ever be private because of her career. I also love how she grows throughout the song. She talks about how people who become famous often end up hiding to protect themselves, but then she realizes why they do this because of the constant spotlight. (This is also crazy to me because she ends up going into hiding eventually to protect herself so this whole song was like foreshadowing her later life) Number 2: the “hidden” message. The hidden message for this song was “Wouldn’t you like to know” and as a swifite, YES! I would like to know! But Taylor knows that she is trying her hardest to keep her life so private. But putting aside wanting her to feel safe in her relationships, I would LOVE to know every detail about her life (even though I value her privacy and would never want Tay to feel threatened) Aaannnndd number 3: just a fun little extra detail, but this song is the 13th track and we all know how amazing the number 13 is, and how special this number is to Miss Tay Tay. I’m actually still a baby swiftie (2021!) so I’m so glad that you’ve made this video to explain everything that’s been happening in 2010! I’ve been surrounded by Taylor fans for a while and I never really got the hype, so one day I asked my best friend to make a playlist for me to introduce me to Taylor’s music and she was like „IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR SO LONG!!” and an hour later I had a playlist made for me with an explanation for every song. (Also the fact that she named the playlist „blondiefication”… her mind). The songs that initially hooked me the most from her playlist were Death By A Thousand Cuts and Haunted, so I guess they’re the songs that made me a swiftie BUT after a while a song that wasn’t even included in the playlist became my favourite and it’s… Holy Ground. I don’t know what kind of drug did she put in this song, but whenever I hear it I get +100 to my mood. When I play this song I immediately want to jump around my bedroom and scream the lyrics and let the neighbours know how happy I am. And even though I’m dancing in my bedroom I think that „I don't wanna dance if I'm not dancing with you” (whoever my crush is at the moment). Also, one oddly specific thing - the way she sings the word „lose” in the stolen version? Chills down my spine!! ig: @alipowska

i became a swiftie during 1989 but my favorite song switches quite often, depending on my mood. it’s hard to pick one! i’d say currently “hits different” has me in a chokehold. i absolutely love the boppy melody juxtaposed with the depressing lyricism. and the little vocal run she does during the verse is so addicting to listen to. the bridge cuts into my very soul. i cannot get enough. so good! always love your videos, and this one was superb. absolutely cannot wait to listen to speak now (taylor’s version)!

my favorite song that tears me up every time i hear it is marjorie. it’s so significant for me because of my connection with my gramma, and having every scrap of her taken from me as a result of dementia. when evermore was released, i was living with my gramma to take care of her because she was so suddenly and severely affected by her memory loss that she couldn’t live alone anymore. when i heard the lyrics, "if i didn't know better, i'd think you were talking / listening / singing to me now," i thought about the painful reality that my gramma was physically present, yet mentally distant. this is different from taylor’s experience but also parallels both our desperate longing J̲ust to be able to talk with our grandmothers again, despite the circumstances that prevent it. and of course the bridge hits the hardest, with the “A̲utumn chill that wakes me up” reminding me of the cold wyoming air that would fill her house since she always slept with the windows open. and she truly did love the amber skies so much, eagerly waiting until suN̲set every day to pull back the curtains and look out her kitchen window; perpetually fascinated by how the scene in front of her was different from yesterdays. always commenting on the intricacies of the cloud wisps to the hues of pI̲nk and orange, she really knew how to appreciate the little things that made life beautiful for her. somehow taylor is able to evoke all of these memories and emotions from me in just S̲even words. there’s no way i could ever describe all the ways that this song and evermore as a whole mean so much to me, but in the end it’s a poignant reminder of the precious connection and love i share with my gramma, reminding me to cherish the memories we made when we still could. yet i will always grieve the loss of the vibrant, engaging person she used to be, especially while living with the complex and contradictory reality that i know better, but she’s still around. instagram: kenny.the.real edit: i forgot to mention that gramma would always save magazine and newspaper clippings with taylor swift for me any time she saw them because she knew how much of a fan i am, even back in 2008 :) love you gramma

As a new Swiftie I wanted to thank you. I've only recently fallen in love with taylor's incredible writing and storytelling and ever since I've been trying to understand more of her story and the context behind lots of songs and lyrics but it hasn't been that easy. Your videos have the exact amount of depth of analysis that i'm lookin for to appreciate taylor even more. (i loved how you analysed would've could've should've as it was a poem in english literature). That being said I'm in a process of discovering, so my favourite song changes constantly (it also depends on what i'm going through). At the moment it has to be Happiness, from evermore. I'm not very good at expressing myself or my feelings (another reason why I love taylor so much) so it's difficoult for me to explain how that song makes me feel. It's both a gut feeling created by the melody and Taylor's wonderful vocals and appreciation for the theme and the words used. Starting peaceful and calm and building up to convey grief, sadness, anger and at last aceptance. It's a journey charged with such strong emotions that touch me on such a deep level I don't even understand why. Lately i've found myself listening to it on repeat multiple times allowing me to exit my world and focus on these emotions. Other than that english is my second language and I especially admire how taylor uses words, she makes me fall in love with the english language more than I already am.
