You guys! These 2 episodes were absolutely engaging and rigorous! Infusing the multiple quotes from prophets and apostles were so so fitting and good! I loved being part of this dialogue-I could do this all day, everyday ❤

Each week better than the last. How much more I appreciate, understand and love the Book of Mormon than ever before.

I remember years ago having an encounter with these chapters that changed how I saw them. For the names of cities, I substituted the names of people I love. That helped me realize that I need to help myself and others prepare ourselves against our spiritual enemy. That was a sobering thought.

When I read these war chapters, I can't help but think of George Washington when I read about Moroni. They seem like twins to me.
@jencypetersen34105 ай бұрын
I think the same! I’ve read some fantastic biographies about him (Washington) and I am struck every time by the similarities. It’s cool to see how the Lord uses people with similar characteristics for similar services over time

I wish there was a list of those fantastic quotes shared with this podcast. everyone spoke to me.
I learned to love the war chapters because of you. When you talked about 'running together, helping each other in our struggles', I immediately had to think of my little grandson in 2012 when he and his best friend ran in the 'Little soles' marathon, during their year in Kindergarten. Whenever one of them got behind and got a little tired, the other one would grab his hand and they would run together. I even had to put a photo of them in my Book of Mormon journal. I call it 'Little souls marathon'. I'm watching from Alberta, Canada

one more comment. I thank Dr. Boren for the Standard of Truth recited at the Hill Cumorah Pageant. I was in that pageant years ago, and was also a Lamanite. I knew we recited something everyday but had completely forgotten it. I looked it up and found that Joseph Smith made this statement. I’m so happy to be reminded of it and will memorize it now. Thank you - Diane Quist

Sooo good!! Sooo interesting!! I found the 10th century Muslim scholar, his book is freely available online: Qisas al-anbiya (Stories of the Prophets) but the author's name is given as Al-Tha'labī. Slightly different to how Hugh Nibley related it, but not in the specifics. Thanks so much fir doing this podcast, it is just brilliant. I've been looking forward to the War Chapters precisely because of John Bytheway's "Righteous Warriors" - FABULOUS!! I particularly enjoy the six white horses comin' down the mountain 😄😁😂 We sang that song a lot when I was a kid!! 💛😄

Thank you for mentioning Corianton's redemption in all this (Alma 48 :18, no footnotes excluding Corianton in being compared to Chief Captain Moroni!). I think we can live or judge others with the stigma of our past actions. Corianton's redemption comes because he listened to his father's words much in the same way that Alma did; we just don't see as clearly in the Book of Mormon because he is only mentioned by name twice more in chapters 49 and 63 of Alma. We have to look harder to catch the clues that Corianton was redeemed through Christ. Our past mistakes and sins do not define who we can become especially when we are with Christ.

We have something so similar to these war chapters occurring in Utah right now. A candidate lost in the primary election. He has been trying to stir up the people to anger ever since, suing the state of Utah. Since he has lost his case in court battles, he’s now joining forces with the opposition party to take down the candidate who won the primary. It’s fascinating how these chapters prepare us for modern times.

Thank you for these podcasts. I learn so much. I'm a little behind in listening to these, but I wanted David Boren to know that Elder Bednar when he dedicated the Layton Temple earlier this year admonished us to memorize that scripture you quoted at the end of this podcast, 1 Nephi 14:14.

I love Alma 48:18 along with verse 17. Moroni was a man like Ammon, etc--but think where nearly all those men started! They did lots of bad things, and were still able to become "men of God like unto Moroni" through Jesus.

“Parents, the days are long past when regular, active participation in Church meetings and programs, though essential, can fulfill your sacred responsibility to teach your children to live moral, righteous lives and walk uprightly before the Lord” (Quentin L. Cook, CR Nov. 2012, p. 8).

In Alma 47 those who didn't want to go against the Nephites who was led by Lahonti at Mt. Antipas, I'm curious if they are some of the group that covenanted to no longer fight against the Nephites in the battle with Zarahemnah and Moroni in Alma 44. Moroni commmanded that the people enter into a covenant of peace and they didn't want to break their oath.
