People at Almax are rude and unprofessional. To make my order I had to call first because I live outside UK. The first time a very polite lady answered on the phone who gave me all the information needed to be able to make my order by email. She even gave me another email address to proceed faster. After few days I did not get any answer so I sent the same email through their website. Few days after I still did not get any answer so I decided to call back. I called in the afternoon. A man took the call and told me (not asked me!) to call at 9 p.m. and hang up. I called at 9 p.m. and the same man asked me if I could call later. I answered politely: "no really, I am busy later" and he answered "than bye, bye" and hanged up without giving me the chance to say anything.

Great review Adrian , this made researching a good security chain and padlock easy. I just bought an Abloy 362 and am waiting on Almax for reply to buy the 19mm chain. I also just found your Pragmasis review, which also would be excellent for 2nd chain for house. Got to protect my motorcycle , and keep the bastards honest ! Cheers mate, from down under.
@AdrianWeber11 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a cool plan James, have you heard about the Pragmasis chains yet? I am working on their videos atm. Both the Almax and the Pragmasis Protector chains are superior in quality!
@AdrianWeber12 жыл бұрын
Hey Rodrigo, As I explained in the video the lock is not better it is just different. With the Anchor Las you have the advantage of adding a half euro profile cylinder (length of 31 mm) that you like. You could even put a EVVA MCS in there if you want to. The S&G 933 does not exist (bill was joking) and the chain does not fit to S&G padlocks (to big). The Mul T Lock E18H is a huge one and I am planning to do a video on it in combination with the Series IV chain.
@AdrianWeber12 жыл бұрын
The Squire padlock is FAR beyond my abilities but If you are afraid of lockpickers or you know that lockpicking may is an issue where you live you should go for the Abloy 362. It is being sold on Ebay very cheap but I would not take one of those because they come without security card. (Nobody knows who else might have keys). The new ones cost around 200 € though. The Mul T Lock E18H can be bought for 140 pounds at Saunderson Security.
@AdrianWeber12 жыл бұрын
Also you could toughen up your Squire padlock with adding serrated keypins instead of their normal ones but the first one has to stay because of the magnetic anti bump pin. This way you could add 5 more security pins if you have the right pinset with pins in the right diameter and right length (diameter = 2.75 mm). The Mult T Lock E18H can be fitted with an interactive or an MT5 cylinder. I will try if it is possible to fit one with an MT5 +, that would be the best choice.
@AdrianWeber12 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, Thanks for the info! Did I not mention that in the video? The one I have is not in use and just for the collection. I have mentioned in the keypicking forum that people should not buy those if they want to secure something with it.

The Almax and Pragmasis chains are both very good and both on the same level. I believe the company owners know each other but I am not sure on that. Both very good and which ever you choose you gone be on the good side! Cheers mate!

oh you did mention the cheap eBay ones but figured that it was best to explain why. they may not be a great purchase. though security wise they are probably a security risk outside of the UK but within the UK I would worry about what keys are out in the wild.

TrojanLife4U asked: "Hi Adrian, just saw the video of the guys cutting the Abloy PL342 (attached to the Protector chain) with bolt cutters and sending it to padlock heaven. Does this apply to PL362 too?" Good question Trojan! The PL362 from Abloy is a CEN Grade 6 padlock with a much thicker shackle. The PL342s shackle has a diameter of 10mm and the PL362s shackle has a diameter of 15mm. A boron enhanced shackle or even a well made hardened shackle like the ones from Anchor Las with a thickness of 15mm can not be cut with bolt cutters. Just like the Pragmasis or Almax 16mm chain can not be cut by them! Hope that helps, Adrian
@Syregren10 жыл бұрын
I have almax 19mm and abloy 362, but worried the lock might be cut fro bolt cutters. Do you think its worth it to buy the Squire 362 also and have both tis and abloy fitted at the same time. Im guessing the squire is harder to cut because it is better protected by the shackle ? Sorry for all the questions, im just worried :X
@AdrianWeber10 жыл бұрын
Syregren Hey Syregren, it is highly unlikely that the Abloy 362 will be cut with a bolt cutter. The shackle has a thickness of 15mm and under normal conditions it should be impossible to cut such a thick shackle. It is however less thick than the 19mm chain and at best you should use a padlock with a more "closed" desig such as the Squire. The Squire is better protected yes but has a "normal" pin cylinder inside. So if you are not afraid of picking I would go with the Squire. If you are afraid of lock pickers you should stay with the Abloy. If you order the Squire with the R1 restriced core you should be fine though. Steve from securityforbikes is working on a solution for a more secure cylinder for the Squire padlock. But you would have to wait for this a bit :) Adrian

But about what kind of bike are we talking here? Is it more or less then 5.000 €? If it is more I would go for the Series IV with either the Abloy or the E18H with MT5 + core but you would have to ask for that specific core and it will cost you more! If it is less I would go for the Series III with the Squire padlock. The Anchor Las I would suggest to go with the Series IV but with a Protec Core it will cost like 350€ compared to 200€ for the Abloy or the E18H and 85 € for the Squire :)
@AdrianWeber12 жыл бұрын
With a bicycle you can just buy the Series III along with the Squire padlock. If you ask Alex (the owner) he can probably get you the chain in 1 m. The 0.7m chain is actually 0.8m!!! I thought I mentioned that in the video. It will fit with your bike to a lamp post, at least the once here in Germany.

I would go a bit further and only buy them for research or collections. If you really want to secure something you have to buy a new one. I could use the Anchor Las or the Squire. Hey mate, the Anti Pinch Pin is specifically designed to fit with the Squire SS65CS padlock and no other padlock. So the answer is sadly no. The opening on the Abloy PL362 is too wide. Sorry mate! But the Squire is a good deal and you COULD improve it's core if you are into locks. I am producing all the videos on the Pragmasis chain at the moment after that I will go into discussion on the Squire padlocks and if you can upgrade them or not. I have some idead but no idea if they will work.

Locksmihts can modify abloys to be opened by your home key? At least they said that here in Finland, where every lock is made by Abloy and the services for those are avaivable.
@Ghousti10 жыл бұрын
Yep (if your other locks are Abloys too)
@AdrianWeber10 жыл бұрын
Ilari Oras The locksmith also needs to be a registered Abloy dealer but I believe that many locksmiths in Finland are Assa Abloy dealers. Other than that your home lock has to be the same kind of Assa Abloy cylinder than the one on your door. If your padlock has the new Protec2 core but the door is still the older normal Protec it will not work. Both have to be Protec or Protec2 or some other type of Assa Abloy system.

Ive seen these locks on ebay really cheap. I wondered how they can sell a £200 lock for £50. Some people say that its the going rate for them on ebay. However, I have looked closely at the photos and if you look on the abloy website, the writing and numbers on the locks seem to be quite heavily engraved into the lock. The ones on ebay seem to be barely scratched into the surface, suggesting they may not be genuine Abloy locks. Can anyone confirm this observation?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean when you say that the shackle of the Squire is covered by the chain when locked. From what I can see the link can just be turned to the side and the un-shrouded section of the shackle will be exposed for cutting. If what you say is true, however, one might do even better with a Diskus 20/70, in which most of the shackle is shrouded, and a 16mm chain would fill it up on the inside perfectly.
@AdrianWeber10 жыл бұрын
ImpactWench Normal 0 21 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Hey Impact, your assumption is wrong. The Diskus is made of stainless steel and much thinner (about 2-3mm). Stainless steel is weaker than hardened steel. The Squire padlock has a massive shrouded shackle protection. These shoulders are more than 8mm thick and if you would own the padlock and a bolt cutter you would be able to see that the teeth of the bolt cutter can not reach the shackle in any way. Meaning that you would have to cut through the 11mm shackle. + 8mm shoulder on one side, and another + 8mm on the other side. Making a total of more than 27mm of hardened material. Cutting through such thick hardened material is impossible with a bolt cutter. I suggest you buy the lock and a bolt cutter and try your best! And then you contact me again, hell I would even link that video here! would it be more secure to put both chain ends into the Anchor lock to prevent access to the shackle? Out of these locks Squire looks the most mechanically secure one
@AdrianWeber11 жыл бұрын
Good question! Theoretically yes but as the shackle has a diameter of 15mm + it would not make a difference in combination with the 16mm chain. It would however make a difference with the 19mm chain as the shackle diameter is less than that in this case. Mechanically the Squires are perfect and I have never heard of a successfull picking attempt. Some people however want to have maximum security + weather resistance. In this case they often choose the Anchor Las padlock with a drill and pull protected half euro cylinder of the Abloy Protec or Protec 2 lock. At least that was my experience with people that contacted me via KZbin.

Need a chain with sodium filled links. When the angle grinder hits the hollow space inside the chain filled partially with sodium, a heavy flame will blow out. Lithium might provide a similar result. If only the end link is attacked, the rest of the chain can be salvaged by removing the damaged link.

***** Hey Dean, living in Germany that would probably a garage that is build in a very solid way. Meaning RC2-3 (Resistance Class) doors at the front, RC3 side door. All that coupled with the alarmsystem of the house. I would have a Torc ground anchor too with a 19mm or 16mm chain from Pragmasis, I would only use it when being away on holiday though. Money not being an issue of course. On the move I would stick to the Anchor Las 590-6 featuring and an Abloy Protec2 core coupled with the Pragmasis Protector Series 16mm chain because the 19mm chain is just too heavy. If weight is an issue I would stick to the Assa Abloy 362 with Protec2 core. Hope that helps! Adrian

Adrian Weber Hi Adrian, Thank you for your reply. Im considering the 19mm only because i ride every 2-3 weeks on a weekend and when not working! So saying that it sits idle in the garage and under covers 95% of the time. Looking forward to your review on the double doofer anchor only because when i do go on holiday i tend to move the bike to the rear of the house under the alfresco area and to have a removable anchor would be ideal but curious to see how it all works and if just as secure as a permanent anchor.

You need a high powered angle grinder and only a few battery powered have the power to cut a chain like that. Also have you ever tried that? The chain is not fixated like on a vise it can and WILL bounce back, your disc will get stuck and it will throw back the chain with a huge bang. You will either damage the bike, yourself or both. Think about the possibilities before posting a statement like this next time. Also angle grinders make A LOT A noise. If you do that at my house I AM awake!

Hi Adrian :) What do you think, in the aspect of security and durability, of the Abus Granit Plus 37/80 padlock?? Would that compare to the Squire padlock?
@AdrianWeber10 жыл бұрын
Hey Ben, the Abus Granit padlock is a difficult topic. I have a factory cutaway of the 37/55 here which features the same disc core. Both have a core with 7 active discs where as the Anchor Las padlocks feature 9 active discs. With a simple calculation (6 different cut depths on both) you will see that 7 = around 300.000 differs where as 9 = around 10.000.000 differs. You can probably guess what I like more :) Yes, the Anchor padlocks! I will explain in detail why I prefer the Anchor Padlocks and why I personally would not choose a Granit padlock (there is another reason which I do not want to mention yet).
@TheJohn9322610 жыл бұрын
Adrian Weber Yes, the Anchor Las 590-6 Grade 6 with DOM Diamant is your favourite setup and I would venture a guess as to the chain being the 19mm one?? :)
@TheJohn9322610 жыл бұрын
Adrian Weber However I just meant what you think of the Abus Granit Plus 37/80 padlock and how it would compare to only the Squire padlocks, as the other 2 ones are far superior to the Abus Granit Plus 37/80? :)
@AdrianWeber10 жыл бұрын
Ben Dover Hey Ben, the DOM Diamant just looks good in that big bulky padlock. Personally I would prefer the Abloy protect. The key is a bit more sturdy and is just a little tiny bit more weather resistant ;) I may show it with an Abloy core in the future!
@AdrianWeber10 жыл бұрын
Ben Dover Hey Ben, as I said before I will compare the Abus and the Anchor AND the Squire later someday. As for your question the Abus has only the CEN Grade 5 rating, it is a Grade 5 padlock with a shackle protection that does not really count because it will not be tested on the Grade 5 padlock. The Squire however is a Grade 6 padlock one Grade above the Abus. I think that explains it.

Well either way a new lock with security card is always better then a used one when it comes to security. So if the lock is going to protect something of a high value I would settle for a new one.

I think your favourite word is "padlock" - said it 46 times, 12 times per minute :D good review though, I have a Abloy system keyed-alike with 10 of their locks but my only concern is now I want to master-key them and that kind of means all of them need to be sent back which is highly impractical so maybe I won't do that.

You mean padlock? Nah I am totally not into padlocks! Totally not my style... I mean why would I collect padlocks? Even collecting padlocks sounds a bit silly. Padlocks are heavy and ugly not to mention the trouble you get into if you loose your padlocks key! :P

The Almax Chain customer service is poor, rude and unprofessional. I do not recommend this company for absolutely anyone...

Hey Carlos, that is sadly the same of what I have heard and also the reason why I recommend securityforbikes.com nowadays. Steves service better as of what I have heard. Also he has a wider product range. Best wishes and thanks for sharing your experience! Adrian
