My brother made this and let me tell you ! I NEVER had such a beautiful delicious and excuse me for this word but moist loaf in my entire life ! And I have tried so many This recipe is now a staple for sure Thank you for sharing

Edd, I am aware you know but this has been a God send. I am from Spain where almond paste is everywhere and have been looking for a good recipe. This was WONDERFUL!!! You made all my family happy

Wow! this came just in time, as I was looking for a *good* recipe for lemon poppy seed cake, without too much buttercream which I personally don't like. Definitely gonna try this next week. Last week I made your chocolate chip cookies + chicken- lentil curry and both of them were delish. This week I'm gonna make your rhubarb panna cotta :) love your recipes.

I love lemon cake! It’s probably the flavour cake I make the most. I’ve done a couple of videos about it on my channel. But I’ve still never tried one with poppy seeds. And almond paste? I am so intrigued!!! You have inspired me to try it. Fab video. Thanks Ed!

The Boy Who Bakes I am definitely going to try the almond paste. It’s something I’ve never considered before. And your method of beating it with the sugar at the beginning sounds like a top tip to me. The candied peel really elevates the loaf too. Looks Delish!

You really got the patience to make the cake look nice. I stop trying making it look nice years ago when my kids were simply impatient to devour it😂😂😂. Lemon quick bread/loaf cakes, banana & brownies don’t last more than 2 days in my house (they got eaten faster than growing beard). Nowadays it’d last a bit longer that my daughter’s away in college/uni. I don’t think i can find those almond paste in my neighborhood but i can always blend my own. Do you think it would work w/ hand mixer?

I've been looking for a delicious recipe with almond paste. I don't know if you've heard of Chinese almond jelly. It's beautifully fragrant but disappointingly tastes little like almond. I've been looking for a dessert that really packs a punch of that fragrant, almost floral almond flavor.

TheSongwritingCat I haven’t if it no, will look it up. With this recipe the dominant flavour will be lemon so if you want to boost the almond flavour add a few drops of almond extract

What brand loaf pan are you using? The sides are super straight...

T. Martin it’s a Pullman loaf pan, a style of pan that’s is basically square

The cake looks great! However... The explanation you gave on marzipan vs. almond paste is a little backwards... The blue pack you are holding is from the Danish company Odense (a city in Denmark) which makes marcipan and other products for confectionary. Usually the good stuff, which we call marcipan here in DK, contains about 60-67 % almonds. It is for conctionary and such. The blue one you are holding is actually the one Odense recommends for baking but it only contains 15% almonds (I believe 11% is the lowest content you're allowed to still legally call it marcipan). The almonds are supplemented with ground up apricot seeds. Just a small clarification. And all this is, of course, based on the ingredient list from Odense's home page.

Kim Jensen glad you like the look of the cake. The Odense almond paste I use is actually 50% almonds as I mention in the video, 15% definitely wouldn’t be what you’d want to use in this recipe

Oh, I just realised the one you're using has Swedish text on it. I looked it up and you're right, it's 50%. Weird that they would make two different products look that similar. The Swedish 50% looks EXACTLY like the Danish 15%. Try googling "Odense Bagemarcipan" 😀
