I am consistently heavy/fat on my full fairway bunker shots, especially short irons or wedges. Do you have any specific set up, grip, posture, or swing thoughts to improve the ball contact? Thanks for the great videos. I’ve learned a lot from your videos.

I would love to send you guys a video of my swing to dissect it a bit - I'm striking pretty consistently rn (6i - 90+ mph club speed - 120 ish mph ball speed - carry 165-180 - usually hit a draw but the miss is a pull draw) I just started getting serious about golf start of May and took a few lessons, my swing overall feels pretty good but if you could see my swing straight on I really struggle controlling my wrists in the backswing and even though my lead arm stays straight my club is almost always parallel to the ground if not pointing downwards towards the ground at the top of my backswing. Somehow, when I come through I'm able to time everything up and get a pretty good strike but I am concerned about the longevity and future consistency of my swing due to the over hinging wrists. I've tried a few things to really keep that wrist in line with the forearm to promote a 90 degree angle between the club and arm but it feels terrible and ruins my rhythm. Would like to know if my backswing is manageable and playable for the long term or what I might need to do to improve the consistency and longevity of my swing!

Hey 👋 fellas, glad to have you on this side of the pond! What took you so long 😉?! Guys, I need some serious help with my shoulders and upper body opening up too soon in the transition and start of the downswing. This brings the hands and club out toward the ball too far (just past half way between the toe line and the ball) and I have to compensate by standing up out of posture and raising the handle just to make contact with the ball. Strike, direction, and distance usually suffer 🤦🤬. Not quite OTT because I still have, barely, an In to Out path but just too close the ball. I’ve tried Sergio’s tip of “pulling the chain” down but I just end up “yanking” the chain down fast and hard, screwing up my sequence. Y’all have anything for me to feel and keep the shoulders from opening up too soon and the club getting steep because of it? Thanks 🙏!!!!!
@fluffnstuff912 жыл бұрын
Tempo, spine angle, angle of attack on the ball cause all those problems. Arms are influencing too much. From what I’ve noticed in a swing the arms will naturally realign if you allow the body to just do it’s thing in the swing. Bring the club back, turn shoulder, keep left arm straight and get to the top feeling the hips coil, keep that weight inside the right foot pausing ever so slightly to store the energy and prep transfer, initiate hips which starts shoulder turn to unravel your coil, keep left arm straight, let hands naturally come down(straightened left arm guides club head naturally back), push toward target with the back foot(completes power transfer combining all that force to go through ball) and get that to feel smooth(this increases longevity of one’s swing as well because it is not forced it’s natural). Start slow at first to feel it and when comfy gradually speed it up. Yardages will increase, more flush shots will happen, will become more accurate. Thing that’s irritating is easy to understand but difficult to physically apply consistently. The swing is a pendulum literally(tempo based). Other tips that help, start with half swings get smooth flush strikes feel the tempo then 3/4 swings then full swings. I prefer wedges to start(shortest swing) and go up the club ladder. This helps understand tempo with each club their subtle differences. Fairway bunkers you have to get the club to shallow and is not a downward strike on the ball. The ball will literally go maybe 10-30 yds or so by doing that. these steps can help for all shots and help shallow the club naturally. Fats happen from too steep an angle(consciously hitting down on ball, squatting too much, club getting too low before impact), thins/skulls are too shallow of an angle(lifting up, not staying in the swing club, head too high at impact) the swing is not supposed to be conscious it’s supposed to be fluid, smooth and natural. Once the smooth feel is established then increasing speed, more power generation can be done. Going back to fundamentals is always a good choice in any sport. I struggle as well I’m not perfect I hit plenty off poop shots everyone does even pros. Just don’t over swing too much if any and kill your back and don’t try to kill it, the body supply’s plenty of power naturally combining all that. Hope all that helps someone it’s helped me a lot over the years thanks from these dudes and a few others here on KZbin.

“Close the gap” is what I’ve just started working on the last couple weeks and the results in my ball striking have been crazy. It’s also stopped me pulling shots and got me hitting along my alignment which is something I’ve struggled with for a long time. I’ve been focusing on re-centering (closing the gap) BEFORE I finish my backswing. Just before I reach the top I start getting weight forward then start my downswing. I do recommend trying it
@robertacierno28032 жыл бұрын
Just starting to really master all of these, and I’m shooting my lowest scores ever. You’re 100% correct in that they’re the most difficult things for amateurs to do. If you were to expand on any of them, I would further discuss twisting the hips and then torso in the backswing, not swaying. And also the wrist set & release. A lot of amateurs don’t set their wrists, or understand that the back of their top hand is equivalent to their club face, leading to open faces and big fades. Great stuff guys. You always do a great job.

Ok, 68 yo retiree whose golf advocate son outfitted me with clubs 18 months ago and REALLY wants me to pick up this game. Have had trouble with consistency (fat/thin etc) and almost never take a divot even under the ball much less ahead. So, thanks for the explanation(s). Of these, grip I have ok, width is partway there (setting the club needs to be more purposeful at that midpoint), but this is the first time I’ve had anyone tell me about closing the gap to bring your lead side vertical at the start of the downswing. I can see how this has potential to really help me. I have had people tell me not to slide my hips, but still to end on my lead foot. That’s been difficult to accomplish, as you might imagine. So the purposeful setting of the club and the purposeful closing of the gap have tied up some loose ends for me. It seems like it would be easier to sequence your way than how I was trying. Now to go outside this evening and do some swings to try it out.
@johnsadler86372 жыл бұрын
Update after a dozen or two foam balls in the yard: definitely helped balance, even to the point on a few swings I had to step downrange with my trail foot. The grass was too tall to see much about ball strike, but I am looking forward to running over to the range this morning. The setting of the club helped too - I had occasionally had that happen right but so many things were going on I couldn’t pin down the way to make it happen intentionally. Thanks much!

hello coaches, thank you for your so helpfull videos. question if you don't mind : where should I have my glance during downswing ? on the back of the golf ball, middle of it or In front of it on the divot area ?
@dizzyshin2 жыл бұрын
I believed most pro don't pay attention to this, they just look at the ball generally and not really focus on very specific part. Too focus on the ball will make you forget about the real target which is 100 yards in front and not down there.
@meandmygolf.2 жыл бұрын
Love this question and it's something we get asked quite often. Dizzy is spot on with this answer too. Great video to talk about though!
@blendroid48212 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your feedbacks ! Yes, you're right Dizzy, professionals golfers are certainly focus on the target and less on the ball but...I'm not so good, far from it actually ! And since I look at the ground contact zone instead of the golf ball itself when I'm in the bunker, then I guess it could be important to have professional's advices.

I would love some help / advice. I’m a relatively new golfer (about 10 months), and i have the basic mechanics down pretty well. My HUGELY ANNOYING issue is, i can’t make clean contact with the ball, when the ball is there.. let me explain… i can make absolutely beautiful practice swings, every time. Even take divots. But when i put ball down, i cannot make clean contact. I can’t hit my 7 farther than 140 yards, and can’t break 100mph ball speed. So i know how to swing, and every once and a while i make DECENT contact and it goes 140 because of the club face angle at impact, but i can’t get past this plateau. I need some secret drills to do or something. Any help is appreciated
