RAISED BED PLANTERS! I would use those T&G boards to make RAISED BED PLANTERS. You can notch with a handsaw the tongue and the groves on the ends to accept the row above. This will lock the corners. Tie the rings together in corners with a screwed on 2x2 ( to be removed to add or delete rows for different heights.) Line the inside with 6mil vapour barrier scraps to extend the life. Leave the bottom open or set on pavers for drainage. The old guy Bert

I remember when we poured concrete in our machine shed. It makes such a massive difference in usability! When ours was gravel, there was a huge amount of dampness coming up from the floor and things were rotting and rusting -- but at least they were out of the rain. Now the concrete is in and sealed with a penetrating sealer, and it is nice and dry at floor level. That's what's great about pole barns, you can build them relatively cheap with a gravel floor then add the concrete when you can afford it!

Hello Maybe you should of call it copperhead ridge, wow . Barn floor looking good take care see ya next week

You do a good job with the backhoe. On your water tank, I used the electrical tape that you put around water pipes to go around the barrel 5-6 times and wrap it in fiberglass insulation and cover with something to protect it. That may be cheaper than a heat lamp to run. I put the same thing on my well casing, the tank was under the house. Just an idea, you have a lot of good ones. Stay safe
@hickoryridgehomestead91774 жыл бұрын
I had heat tape on it before but the water in the cups would freeze. I do have the lamp on a thermostat that only comes on when it’s below freezing

It's looking good. A word off advice spray the inside and outside for termites before you pour the slab at least around the edges on both inside and outside it will save you problems down the road. Keep videos coming tkx
@ridgeviewhomestead39004 жыл бұрын
Gerald Qualls Normally I would have thought that too but with the chickens sharing a wall with the barn, termicide might not be such a good idea. I’m pretty sure that’s why he used cedar. Cedar has long been used as a natural way to repel and inhibit insects like termites, certain ants, moths, mosquitoes, and cockroaches.

I dig what your doing! Love the barn and the Log house. your definitely a hard worker! Can't what to see what you do in the spring and summer.

It's pretty annoying when a company cant, or won't, do what they promise. Kinda sounds like he intentionally gave you the wrong dirt. Anyway, you made it work. Nice job!
@nightsong285404 жыл бұрын
I saw that others said what I was thinking, build shelves and store the lumber up out of the way. You're doing a wonderful job with the "fill dirt" too bad it wasn't the correct kind as it makes a LOT more work for you. Stay safe, be careful, take it easy and keep warm and dry. Thinking about you and keep doing as much or as little as you can or want to, as it's not a race...might feel like it but from our experience if we rushed it seemed we didn't do it right and spent more time redoing it. Later, looking forward to your next vlog

Looking good. That's awesome, I have a barn that needs cement as well so your schedule/video is perfect timing. My current floor or grade is low as well, anxious to see the project move along and be completed, your footage will definitely be helpful, thank you. Love Jason and the crew over at Cog Hill Farm!

I just love that little white piggy's twinkle in it's eye and the smile how darling. That barn is looking so good can't wait for the gable end and the floor concrete to be done. A lot of work but you are certainly kicking it all in the backside lol. ""Just noticed you have wood staked on the INSIDE of your lower board you should move those to the OUTSIDE otherwise you are going to have a hole in your concrete with them inside.

I'm definitely ready for summer. But right now. I'd settle for more then two days without rain. A guy told me he killed 20 copperheads in one day on trace ridge. I don't like cats. But get you a couple of yard cats. And you won't have a snake problem anymore. Or a jack Russell. Mine killed every snake he could find

Snakes don't bother me, but when they are poisonous they have to go. The barn floor is coming along nicely. Just thinking out loud, would your expanding the other side , as you did for the chicken coop, be useful for things that should not sit out in weather? That way you would have room for wood storage and things that don't belong in the barn. It might even turn into a workshop.
@hickoryridgehomestead91774 жыл бұрын
The plan is to build another lean-to on the other side of the barn for parking the mower and side by side under as well as a smokehouse

You were talking about "repurpose" the tongue and groove pieces, I hope you don't mean burning. Why not use the pieces 16 inches or longer for shelves, wall siding on out-buildings or wall siding for storage rooms in your barn. I also agree with "william burgin", save it on wall racks for future use.. Just a suggestion.

Will you put a drain in the barn floor? Or will it slope toward the door? What about expansion joints? I always seem to have questions.

You are not putting down a cement floor, you are putting down a concrete floor. Cement is an ingredient of concrete that consists of cement, sand, gravel, and water. My late husband worked for a concrete company and it was a pet peeve of his when people said it incorrectly. Cement alone crumbles after it dries and cannot be used alone. My second husband didn't know this and bought a big load of cement bags to use for fence posts. He ended up not being able to use it, so he piled the bags of cement in the goat pen and they use it as their mountain. Buying cement was a big waste and expense for us as we then had to buy bags of concrete.

That sign for Cog hill was really nice,what can’t you do?
