I got FSD 12.3 today. My experience with AUTO speed limit was VERY good. At the traffic light, FSD started very confident driving up to 45 mph (the posted speed limit). After 10 sec or so, other cars started to catch-up driving over the speed limit. FSD started increasing the max speed matching the traffic around me. At 58mph, stopped accelerating, put the turn-signal, and switched to the right lane allowing the faster traffic to pass. This was a very human like behaviour.

This was really an insufferable video. The constant complaining about not tailgating, not driving aggressively...not breaking the law. Complaining about keeping a safe distance on the highways is epic. It's scary that FSD is available to certain people. Expecting the car to choose the lane with the fewest cars to save 2 seconds? Really? After hearing the final comments it's clear that John doesn't understand what FSD is even for. The car is supposed to not drive like an a.h. actually the fastest we can get this out there and the more aggressive drivers we can get off the road the better. (Edit) ...I am going to have to go back on some of my criticisms here, 12 is too slow and needs to respect the drivers offset. It should only drive under the limit if that's what the operator chooses, so John is correct in this regard. I stand by the rest though.

Just got back from a morning of driving 12.3. A lot went right. Great new version. Here is the bad: It turned right on red without barely slowing down. It was the only right on red situation I encountered this morning. I was in the right of a 2 lanes east bound. A UPS truck decided to pass me - fine, but my car started to pull into the lane to block the truck? I aborted. Leaving the median to cross on bound traffic after the last vehicle, it almost clipped the tail end of a semi that was the last vehicle it was waiting for before crossing. When it sees a route sign “Ahead 15” ( just a route sign with “ahead” perched on top) it sets the speed limit to 15 (in a 35 zone). Did this repeatably.

Try this scenario ina rural (non-traffic area) without autospeed turned on: Turn on FSD 12.3 in a 55MPH zone. Use knob on wheel to dial top speed to 60 MPH. Note that the car doesn't go near 60 most of the time... it is overriding your setting.... just like the Dr saw at slower speed. Note keep FSD on until you get to a reduced speed zone (maybe a 45 mph zone?)..... did your car slow down to your offset top speed or is it going faster than it should? The above scenario will result in your getting a ticket so be cautious and ready to take over and brake when you get to a reduced speed zone. Theory: Ego is keying off cars around it. I live in a rural area. When there are no cars around ego doesn't know how far to go and doesn't seem to reference your offset speed.

12.3 does great, except I have 3 roads in 3 miles of my house that don’t exist and I have to take over to get to my destination. 1 - it plans onto a private road that is closed off, and has been for a long time 2 - a good road exists and is the shortest path, it plans for another route that ends in a ditch. 3 - from the Quartzsite Supercharger going back to I10 it takes a right into a store instead of taking a left for the road to the Interstate. I don’t know how to report these mapping errors beside voice error when you take it out of FSD. It’s a mapping error, that I’ve experienced and reported for over a year and a half.

I know in CA if the speed limit sign just says speed limit then you do have a defense for going faster under the basic speed law. ie you can make an argument that conditions were such that traveling over the speed limit was safe. Nearly all of these obstructions seem to be pure phantoms. But so cool to see how different 12.3.x is going to be. The release 'major, minor, minor' adoption tells us that updates will be more frequent and less in need of regression testing.

The auto speed adjustment really doesn’t matter too much if you don’t have cars around you for it to gauge off of. In my car, if there is a car coming up on me fast, my car will make the appropriate adjustments to its speed to accommodate or match the flow of traffic around it. Although not ideal, I’ve even seen my car go 10mph over the posted speed limit. V12.3 still doesn’t recognize School Zones, so if you are the lead car and are about to go through one, you’ll need to disengage or else you might get a ticket. lol.

I see the problems, you are wrong about needing humans, you will be assimilated.

In terms of being concerned about the route that the car takes, you just need to let it go. Either you let it drive or you drive yourself. It took me a few years to get used to that but now it’s just not a problem.

What makes anyone think that the authorities anywhere will allow an autonomous vehicle to be able drive over the speed limit or not actually stop at stop signs?

Yay! That means that I am going to get it very soon based on history.

I want to see some stats on how much automated driving features are used and how many consumers are interested in actually buying it. At the moment there is no source for those numbers.

It is really an enlightenment to watch how impatient you and other drivers are compared with V12.3. It's the American way I guess.

Wow what a great honest review. It seems like most of the videos i've seen so far are just praising it up and down and They never says anything bad. My experience has been very much like yours.Very irritating with the going 5 or 6.Under the speed limit, it should do at least the speed limit.Yeah unless there was rain or snow or something but on a clear sunny day it should do the speed limit minimum. I found with turning the auto max off. It still goes under the speed limit. It doesn't seem to change the behavior so there's that. My other complaint is just how slow it approaches.Stop signs. The good is, it definitely is not timid? When another car is approaching the stop sign at the same time. And I stop just a second before him. The car go's version 11. Would have just sat there and waited for them to go. Great review

Would suggest transitioning to Geez(g's)🚀, instead of Gas⛽️, should be more appropriate in the context of a BEV. That said, FSD will have its own bag of tricks and its own moments of surprises, when it encounters the funny and confused humans(or their Vehicles)😂. Surprisingly it's dangerously🥺 assertive, while making unprotected left on intersections(just shoots to the mid intersection😅!)❤👍

CA law specifies that cars should wait until pedestrians have completed their crossing before turning. Nobody does that. but that's what the book says.

Interesting that other reviewers have criticized V12.3 as too aggressive, but you consider it not aggressive enough. I would prefer an autonomous system to err on the side of conservative.

I've noticed when 12.3 is going under the speed limit I can give it a little juice and it speeds up to the limit and stays there. I don't think it's reasonable to expect it to go above the speed limit, but it definitely needs to be going the speed limit. Also needs to be trained to respect School zone speed limits.

People learned a bunch of bad habits over the years. The question is, will you pass the driving test today given the aggressive way you drive?

Ok the part about type A and B drivers is nonsense in my view. Remember the point of fsd and the reason tesla is pursuing this is the idea that this will increase safety and reduce fatalities. Well if we create an fsd that is aggressive that likely will be less safe than a more safety conscious fsd. Id be willing to bet your type A fsd would still be safer than humans but less safe than the type B fsd.

Equating aggressive driving with bad driving is absurd. Tailgating and changing lanes without looking is what causes virtually all crashes. I'm aggressive and I don't do either one. I've ridden with plenty of slow, passive drivers who are all over the bumper of the car in front of them.
