The Live From the Basement version of this album is more complete, and addresses the ‘there’s something missing’ element of the album. Saying that, given enough listens, it does grow on you. The Live From the Basement version of In Rainbows, is next level genius.

You're going to probably hear this at least 15-20 times more but here goes, The basement session for this album is right up there with all of Radioheads best projects for a number of reasons. The first reason is the studio album is very short, the addition of 3 extra songs from the basement really makes this album shine a good deal more. This album was pretty experimental, Thom was exploring music that was more rhythm based than melody based with mixed results on the studio album. The studio album has a robotic quality to it I took a long time getting into (I kind of dig it now though). The overall production and sound quality itself is a bit off as well, it has almost a muted quality to the overall sound at times. They had a real struggle reinventing these songs in a live setting, so much so that they had to get a 2nd drummer because the percussion was so intricate. The picked an awesome drummer in Clive Deamer from the band Portishead (among other things) and the stuff they do with 2 and even 3 drummers (one song for 3) is fairly groundbreaking and the album really is so much groovier and really swings live. I can not recommend the basement session enough it really is like night and day compared to the studio record. When you hear it and watch it live you can readily tell why Radiohead can do almost no wrong for serious music critics and a lot of serious music fans, it's mind blowing at times. If you don't trust me just listen to the first song from the session called Bloom, and tell me it's not a totally different animal and the songs Staircase and The Daily Mail are as good or better than any of the songs on the album. You should do both the basement sessions but especially TKOL one because you can really get a great feel for what they were trying to accomplish with the project and it's totally awesome.

@@pemp9606 It's justified. This is the only Radiohead era defined by the live performances over the studio versions. There are 3 new songs and the sound of the album tracks is very different. Deserves a listen I think

This one has a “From the Basement” version too; that performance of “Bloom” is epic, blows album version away.

"King of Limbs" From the Basement is a 2nd from the basement (along with In Rainbows, one of the if not the greatest moment in the band history), and it turns this album into something amazing - most fans consider the From the Basement version the official totally different way better version of this album. BIG recommendation!

The concept for this album was them experimenting with recorded sound loops. Unfortunately it sounds like an experiment rather than the polished songs from they're more successful projects. That's not calling this a failed experiment but rather could elevate perceptions knowing what they were doing
