Done it many years ago in yangon Shwedagon temple . 30000 monks offering was too big an event that had to take 7 days to complete and also had to go to other temple sites to continue in order to complete it. We were a group of 1000 thai, 500 Singaporean and Malaysian. Organiser from Thailand . Every monk took alms of robe as a gift . More then a year to organise such events. In buddhism, there is a saying of every 1000 monks lives an Arahant in his present or coming rebirth.. Meaning opportunities to offer a possible 30 Arahants, a chance for ourselves to good rebirth guided by those Arahant.

Nice peaceful buddhism in myanmat.plz monks should be pureveg and live simple life. Buddha said if you don't have any food to eat then you can eat meat. Pureveg simple living monks could inspire us to be pureveg and live simple life without any violence. this comment is from the land of buddha lumbini nepal .

monks eat only what they are offered. We do not go pureveg because it was what devadatta did to go against buddha and incite hatred. Anyone is allowed to become pureveg but we must not mandate it and be thankful for every food that we are given in life as long as we did not participate in ending a life just for our own consumption.

They didn't touch the money. The money is put onto their bowls, and later on handed to the kappiya. The money helps to upkeep the monastery's expenses. You cannot tell people not to donate money. It is easier to donate money than packets of materials, which are bulky and a nightmare to carry them as many trucks will be needed. Need to be practical. Criticised so much for a wonderful and awe-inspiring event. This great ceremony has much much more merit and meaning than a mere donating money. Please look at the bigger picture with loving-kindness and understanding. It is the great devotion by the people and the monks that matters, not giving money. With heartfelt Metta, Karuna and Mudita.

George Win no my friend. Exactly things like this. Maybe you do not understand. Monks has ancients rules where they are even not allowed to take money. It's not about not touching. They are not allowed to even give hints that they money. THESE KIND OF MONKS are not teaching humanity correct Buddhism. Buddha taught about simplicity spiritual life of accepting only food, bedding, shelter and medicine. The simplicity is supposed to inspire us to be the same. So now if others see this. Oh, monks are accepting money. That's what is important in this life. Nope. What is important is to give monks FOOD, BEDDING, SHELTER AND MEDICINE THEY ARE STRIVING TO REMOVE MANY DESIRES BUT THIS VERY IMPORTANT BECAUSE RESPECT FOR BUDDHA RULES You see as beautiful. George Win money has to be given to a kappiya that helps the monasteries. But Buddha said even then they don't attach to the idea that they have kappiya. Buddhism helping of monks was because faithful want to help them with food out of compassion to help them survive to keep living the spiritual path to reach nirvana. The giving of money in bowl has to stop. It's done also after a event like this. It's something of everyday. We as householders or laypersons we have to learn what is Buddhism. Search: theravada vinaya rules for householders. And search on KZbin FREE FROM MONEY
