My Amazonica has twelve leaves and hasn't dropped a single one since bringing it home. I was so scared because it was my first alocasia. I really, really want a Jacklyn, so it's encouraging to hear that they are of the hardier kind!

My Bambino has 22 leaves. She is a beast and love her so much. I got her 1.5 years ago and it just recently lost two of hr oldest leaves because eventually it gets so big that those outside older leaves get push out and fall off. She gave me lots of babies too.

Thanks so much! It works very well when you have plants in larger pots and the moisture meter doesn't reach the bottom.... Kind of defeats the purpose if you can't test all the soil. That's why I like using the wood skewer method and if I'm being honest I don't really try trust moisture meters as well lol

I think watering perlite is too much unnecessary work. Of course you do you, but I always keep my perlite plants sitting in water at all times. Usually with no drainage, and fill it with water about halfway or less. I very rarely have to water, and there are no issues with this because nothing ever rots in perlite.

Is it healthy to keep them on 14 hr light all yr round? My thought was to mimick outdoor conditions and let them naturally go through their dormant period. Which method is best long term?
@EverythingPlants

I don't live in a tropical region but I think that close to the equator in those regions they get 12 hrs of sunlight and 12 hrs of night.

Alocasia don't go dormant in their natural habitat. I give my tropical plants 16h of light because the light intensity they receive is nowhere close to a bright lit window.
