Led and Sharon Kaapana took us for a trip to Hawai`i Island, the Big Island, as seen through their eyes. Led learned his music there in the tiny village of Kalapana and saw the lava take most of the homes where he grew up.
We stayed at the Hilo Seaside during our visit and it was a pleasure. Led and I spent plenty of time in the open air lobby playing music, so on our last day we set up the cameras and shot this video. "Aloha `Ia `O Waianae" is a love song to the leeward coast of O`ahu, mentioning beloved features of days gone by.
Led is playing his 1992 Martin 000-16, I'm using my Martin OM-18V. Both guitars are tuned to taropatch open G (D G D G B D from low pitch to high). We're using our pickups directly into the Zoom H6 but also recording through the XY mic module. You can hear a passing truck and a plane on its landing approach at various times in the recording.
I set up two Lumix GH4 cameras for the video, and edited everything together in Edius 7.5.
