Just discovered your channel. Your home and plants are gorgeous. Your monstera is actually a small form (borsigiana) and they are climbers, where the large form deliciosa is a crawler and gets the huge leaves. If you put her on a trellis or a stake, the leaves will get considerably bigger and more manageable. Personally, I prefer the wild look, and I think she is beautiful.

I understand the repot issue as your plants get bigger/older. I have such a hard time with cutting off roots to keep them in their current pot, so I just keep potting up 😅.

You have a gorgeous house Drea. I didn't see any cat toys on your tour so maybe the "Kids" get bored. We have 6 cats in a 2 bedroom house with 120+ plants and my cats never touch them. I think it's because they have toys scattered through the house. Either that or they're scared on me. 😂

They were mostly stowed away in their toy box. You can actually see some of the new ones they got for Xmas on the mantel at the start of the kitchen part of the tour. I had to put them up there while I was filming the kitchen because they were going bzerk playing with them while I was trying to film in there💚

For some reason I struggled with my neon pothos. My Manjula and Marble Queen grow beautifully though. I’m going to try the philodendron lemon lime. In my opinion, the training philodendron are less finicky than pothos. 😊

Hello Drea! I wouldn't take that donkey's tail down for ANYTHING. With fragile plants like that, I put a bucket (or big cooking pot) on the floor, and water the hanging planter in place. The runoff water drips into the bucket. I then collect the water back into my watering can because it's usually supplemented with nutrients (fertilizer, Cal-Mag, Silica, etc.) and I don't want to waste it.
@AlohaPlantLife
@AlohaPlantLife 16 күн бұрын
I tried that once, but it’s too close to the window so the water ended up splashing all over the window and outside of the bucket. It was a mess.
@irairod5160
@irairod5160 16 күн бұрын
@AlohaPlantLife Ooooooh, no! How about one of those " clip-on hanging drip saucers," the clear plastic ones? I make my own with take out containers, rope or chain, and big S- hooks or shower hooks, but Amazon, Lowe's, Home Depot sell "ready to go" ones. I'm trying to spare you from the stress that is moving that type of plant to do anything to it!

In my experience, thaumatophyllums love the sun and thrive outside. That’s probably why the leaves are dying in the winter in a north facing window.

With all the plants you have why don't you use a systemic treatment for pests? I use the Bonide Systemic and I really don't see any pests. I did have a really bad fungus gnat issue last year because I got lazy with the treatments. I won't be doing that again. But I don't have any issues with the treatment even with my biggest divas (White Fusion, Orbifolia, Alocasias). I am SOOO jealous of all those gorgeously large windows!! Although I do get better light in my bedroom during the winter thanks to the trees outside, it's still not enough to keep my plants thriving. I currently have 2 pendant lights and one 4 head fixture and I am going to add 2 under shelf mounts and one Barrina stand up fixture to my room. I enjoyed your tour very much! I always love seeing your plants especially because you give the last years pic to see their progress. Thanks so much!!

I worked in marketing and design management for a little over 17 years. I also did swim coaching, group fitness training, personal training, and even owned a fitness studio for part of that time as well. However, for almost two years now I’ve been trying to make my living solely off of my KZbin channel and other plant related revenue streams like my website. I’ll be giving you guys a full update on how that’s been going in early February during a repot and chat video.💚

Also, I should probably point out that I am really good with finances. The only debt I have is my mortgage, and I made a little over $100,000 off the sale of my last house (which was half the size of this one, but I owned it for 15 years) which I used as a down payment on this house. So that obviously helped make the mortgage much more affordable.

I use Ph up and ph down to get my feed ph correct. Really helps.general Hydroponic brand is good. I start my feed at 5.8- 5-9.... Added to the soil gets the ph to 6.5 or so.

I love your plant tour. I’m very afraid of my prayer plants all getting that huge! I have about 6 I just sprayed with sulfur and they perked up. What do you do to regulate ph?
@AlohaPlantLife
@AlohaPlantLife 15 күн бұрын
For most of my plants nothing because the pH is normally fine. However, every now and again one of them gets a little bit wonky and goes slightly alkaline on me. So far I’ve been using the Cal-Mag in my Amazon storefront link to help get it back to being more neutral because that particular Cal-Mag has sulfur in it.

Could you get one of those extra large garbage bags and wrap the monstera up in that so then you only have to deal with the base of vines/roots? 😅 Idk I'm running into the same problem with mine and I'm dreading repotting it 😂

Maybe it needs more light or more humidity. They also prefer a cooler temperature. Mine is the same but I only bought it last month in December. Hopefully over time I will find how to get it to bloom. Nevertheless they look so tropical and beautiful even with just their leaves. 🌵🌵

@davidfarrell7318 When i had mine in a spot that didn't get direct light it didn't grow at all but the moment I moved it to a spot where it got a couple hours of direct light it started growing like crazy. Also if the lighting isn't an issue for u it could be ur not watering it enough it doesn't like to stay dry. U want to water it right when it drys out. To make it flower its important to not have it under a grow light as it will cause it not to bloom. Blooms are triggered by shorter days and long night. And I heard a slight drop in temperature at night.
