My mother was German and was born in a small village called Possenheim (spelling?), but was raised in Nuremberg. I remember the first time we went when I was 12 yrs old and I got see Cheimsee and Nueschwanstein. I stay in touch with my cousin who lives in Stein outside of Nuremberg, my German sucks, so thank God she speaks great English. I am looking forward to seeing Germany from your viewpoint. When I was in the Army I got to drive all over Germany when I was there for Reforger, best way to see it was literally driving everywhere.

A road trip like this sounds like a great idea for a series of videos. I do love a good road trip! I'd enjoy watching the journey, to feel like I'm riding along, seeing the scenery, the cities, and even the stops (I love a good truck stop when I'm on the road!). Do you ever put a bunk in the van and sleep there? That's how I travel. I take out the seats, but a bunk or air mattress in my van, and sleep at truck stops, rest areas, Wal-Mart stores, etc. It's a very fun and inexpensive way to travel.

*_An innovative journey is both an expedition and its destination, and one of the secrets of life is how to find joy during the journey. This journey is a part of the experience and knowledge, and usually an explorer embarks on evaluation of expected target and focus on final achievement. One of the greatest journeys is human life itself. So obviously everyday is a little life and thus everyday, in fact life is a tiny bit of journey filled with twists and turns. And every journey starts with a single step._*

Dear Vanessa, I was there, in Germany many years ago - in the US Army. My job required us to travel across much of your beautiful country. We operated from 50K North of Frankfurt to the Austrian border. I remember that I thought that your part of Germany, "Black Forest" was the most beautiful part of your country. I was there only 3 years but I loved Deutschland. Thank you for letting us see it again. Danke Schoen.

Have a wonderful and relaxing trip. I know you are the kind of soul who would not only draw strength from all the beauty and solitude, but you are also someone who will be able to convey to us, the viewers, what it is about your country that you appreciate the most. It will be a learning experience for the rest of us, some of us who don't even realize that Germans are as proud of Germany as we in our separate countries are proud of our lands too. I love Germany, having spent a total of 6 years there while I was in the military. Your accent brings me back to so many wonderful memories of my time in Germany. Have fun, film EVERYTHING and be safe....Tschuss fur heute !!

I look forward very much to the series, Vanessa.. I have little knowledge of the geography of Germany, and the only other KZbinr I know there is Survival Lily. So I can't say anything useful about the route, landscapes or people you will be exploring, although I look forward to learning as much as you can safely reveal about where the places are that you explore. On equipment, clearly, you will need to have a decent charging station in your car, for all the batteries all your video and computer equipment use. That may need an inverter, depending on what the power needs o the chargers are. A small but important thing for most of the means of shelter, you may need a range of pegs suitable for all types of ground, from rocky mountains to soft sand - enough of each to set up a complete shelter, and a couple of spares. And you can never have too much line! Even when using a hammock, it is often necessary to use a tarp overhead and have it pegged down properly - there won't always be a convenient tree or shrub to anchor guylines to. And of course, you won't know in advance what the weather will do in that ten days, so must provide for any reasonable variation in that - forecasts are rarely accurate more than a few days in advance, and often not even then! (I know this from hard-won experience as a student solo pilot when even a current 1-hour forecast let me down dangerously on one occasion - only the fact that I was still close enough to my training base to have radio contact with my instructor prevented a full mayday situation, as he had to guide me down completely blind, which is as close to a bad outcome as i ever want to be). Good luck, and enjoy the planning and the journey.

Great idea and the kind of thing most of us "could" do in our own country. Castles and "ruins" always have "romantic" power and many are also sitting in beautiful landscapes. River gorges and places of great power, waterfalls, rocky "rapids" - always grab my attention. Car travel in Australia is so different from car travel in Germany I think I can offer no helpful wisdom to you about that part of your plan. Well one obvious thing on a long trip - never drive sleepy - applies everywhere. This will be great to watch, looking forward to your adventures.

I very eagerly anticipate your 10-day travelogue of Germany. Because you will thoroughly research and fully prepare for this adventure, your reporting will be excellent (as all your videos are). My suggestions are same as others who commented: show the authentic Germany, its people, their lifestyle and culture; avoid the typical “tourist” areas, seen in most tourism videos. I’d love to see your interpretation of the Black Forest-where my relatives are from.
