Vanessa, I have a suggestion for you, get some close-pins, about 6 of them, and use them to clip a small breathable cover to the front of a triangle shelter, that should keep the wind/snow out. You should use a wool scarf to cover the face, don't breathe into the sleeping bag, cause your breath will make moister in it. A Nalgene bottle with very warm water placed into a large wool sock will keep your feet toasty warm. Try some dark chocolate before going into the shelter to sleep.

A good bag is always better than a leaking nalgene...I would never...or need too with a good bag. If your bag doesn't work..use hot rocks in the wool socks..NEVER water..ever. Just asking for trouble...

You will have unfrozen water to make tea in the morning, hot rocks are ok in wool socks, but can't make tea out of rocks.Lol

Obviously your bag isn't good enough and you didn't understand my comment AND you've never seen someone spill water in their bag out in the middle of nowhere with temps well below freezing. It's beyond stupid. Just saying...You can still make tea..if your not DEAD.

Michael carron agree completely with your comments. A good bag is only going to keep you warm if you are already warm when you get in. Having a hot choc before getting is a good suggestion and the bag would then trap your radiated heat, doing some exercise before is also a good idea. When this is not possible you can’t beat a bushcraft hot water bottle with a nalgene or in my case pathfinder steel bottle. Is there a risk of it leaking possibly but the sock would help stop lid from falling off and it’s not been a problem for me in years of winter camping.

My great grandmother was born in Bavaria and according to my DNA I am 44% German. I am 76 years old and never knew my great grandmother as she died before I was born. Such a beautiful video, Vanessa. It's October now and I'm in Maine, living in a small log cabin by the woods. Your video reminds me how I love to venture out after a snow storm, collecting kindling for my wood stove. There's such peacefulness to be found and so much beauty among the trees. Although I'm 71, I've been living a similar lifestyle for 50 years, and it's still magical. Thank you for sharing once more.
