Alone Against Fear - Mission #1 - We Need Weapons - Dot the Ghost Hunter

Happy Halloween, Happy Samhain one and all!!!
Here we take our character, Dot the Ghost Hunter, on her first mission - To find firearms for the survivor community. How will she do?
"Alone Against Fear" is a solo game by Andrea Sfiligoi (Ganesha Games), very similar to the well known "Four Against Darkness" also by Ganesha Games.
A new series on the channel to help fill in the time between Tabletop Miniatures videos.

I think I made a mistake when I was in the Armory 56:40. I only rolled once for the weapons, where upon re-reading the rules I think I should have rolled for EACH weapon on the Weapon Summary Table (19 rolls?). That could have really helped finding firearms for the Mission objective!!! - Facepalm moment ;-)

It was a great game, it has a lot of content, you made me want to try it. You also had some good rolls and when you got the six to skip the fight against the alien hunter, that scream was a cheer of joy coming from your soul, great video!

Trust me, there are plenty of screams in this series... most of them not good!!! It is a surprisingly good game. I had heard of 4AD but not this one when I went searching for a Halloween game. Sometimes you find real gems by accident. Cheers for the comment!

I thank you for your video. I have this game and love it so far. I stopped at the the bookstore as you rolled. This is where I have some questions about rolling. Your time code at the bookstore is 28:47. 1in6 chance - you rolled a "1" for success and retrieved the occult guide. Also 3 in 6 chance you rolled a four. How do these rolls work? Do you have to roll a "1" to obtain the occult book or does any other roll give a success - how do these rolls work? - same with the 3 in 6 chance - do you have to roll a "3" to get the HB? Hi Greg, many thanks for watching!! The chances stated are what you need to roll to get the listed result. So for the Occult Guide it says a 1 in 6 chance of finding it. Roll a 1 you get it, otherwise nope! Then it says a 3 in 6 chance of finding a Holy Book. So, you roll again, and if you get 1-3 then you get the Holy Book, if you roll 4-6 you get nada... nothing!! Hence my roll of 4 didn't get me the Holy Book. Hope that makes sense hahaha Good luck with your game!!

I highly recommend this game. Its not as well known as 4AD, but for fun and value its well worth the small investment!!

Not much experience with AAF tbh having only played the food mission with my daughter. I was doing the charts and decided to house rule the Search rolls as successful on a 5 or 6, but with only 2 rolls on the search tables for a 5. It helped take the edge off the game It was still tough though with lots of tough encounters. Although I forgot the roll of a 1 rule though so it would should have been even harder. Hope you do another mission with Dot! Thanks for the playthrough

You know what, if the next mission has as much bad luck with the searching I might just apply your idea to the following mission!! I must admit to having very few encounters that were tough though. @@IthaquasBane Take one was a disaster. Fun, but her character was badly mauled and she couldn't find any food. Thanks to the guys on the Four Against Darkness Facebook page, I realised I had missed some of the rules for having a chance to find food. lol Take two, may daughter managed to complete the mission, but only by running away from a fight to get back to the starting space with enough food to complete the mission. So it was pretty tight. We both really enjoyed the game even when things went badly first time round.

Picked up this game after seeing the video. It looks like fun but it can be rough sometimes. First encounter of my first game was a L6 unique vampire.

@@IthaquasBane Sadly, Morda was eaten by Kempir the vampire. I ended up reusing the map and the mission for my second character, and Ernesta is doing much, much better. I hope to come back around and recover the body by the endgame. Thanks for introducing me to the game! Despite the initial setback I'm having a lot of fun.

What wording in the rulebook makes you think you can end/abandon your mission at the start box with zero weapons? I think you have to at least find a single weapon with sufficient ammo, but the wording is not quite clear.

If the player chooses to abort the mission they don't get any of the rewards. Not sure I would ever play a game that forces you into a 100% no-win situation. It is a solo game after all, so we have flexibility ;-)

Hopefully someone can help me out with this when it comes to damage I understand the mechanics but what confuses me is that if a weapon damage is 2 for example and you attack a L4 monster rolling a 5 I know you divide the roll by the lv but what about the damage 2 from the weapon? Do I add 2 to the resulting number? Does it means it’s doubled? It’s been driving me crazy cause I want to play right!
