Okay, this brings back a lot of memories. The navy base in Sabana Seca was small, compared to Roosevelt Roads and smaller than Fort Buchanan, because it had a specific mission, and I found out what it was years after I left PR. It used to be known as a "Naval Radio Station." I used to go a lot to the navy exchange in Sabana Seca with my father because I was a military brat, (and we used to live in Levittown, so it was closer to our house than Fort Buchannan) and then I got to go by myself when I was a reservist. If I am not mistaken, where you are at used to be the radar facility which was a few miles away from the base. It was basically a place where the navy would gather intelligence (on the airwaves) and I met someone who actually worked there as a linguist with the Navy (this dude used to work with me in my last job where I used to be a language instructor for the military). Another former co-worker, who was Army, also worked there as a linguist with the navy when he was stationed in Fort Buchanan. In 1979 sailors coming back from the radar were actually attacked around that area. Two sailors got killed. I do remember my dad having to go to work and do guard duty at Muñiz Air Base because of being on alert after the attack. If you know anything about Barrio Ingenio/Sabana Seca or whereabouts, you'd recall that area gets flooded like crazy. I am not sure if that was the reason for closing the radar, because Barrio Ingenio got flooded really bad after Hurricane Hugo, and then after Hurricane Georges (I was still living in PR for those). I do know the radar got damaged after Hurricane Georges. My two former co-workers told me they used to work in shifts surveilling the airwaves. The radar was dismantled and removed in 1999 (according to what I found online). The base was deactivated in 2003, the same year as Roosevelt Roads. Google Navy base Sabana Seca and you will find some of the history of what it was. In all my years as a military brat first and then as a reservist, I was never able to get close to where the antenna was because it was heavily guarded. See if you can go inside the actual base in Sabana Seca, but I'd not go alone to that one. The base has the barrio around. Be careful if you do decide to go to the actual base.

I've once witnessed a shape shifting ufo over power lines in the small town of cupey bajo Puerto Rico in broad daylight way back in the year 1977....I was 11 year's old....but I have never forgotten that experience! It was greyish black in appearance with white and green lights around it....the shape of the thing was that left me in awe for all of these decades....it seemed like it was trying to morph into itself, but couldn't....the only sound it made was like bees buzzing....like a very low hum...as it passed overhead of the power lines....

OMG tell me this is not Sabana Seca. I will cry right now. I spent one of the happiest times in my life there. There was SO much life and energy there. Back in the day, the Marines and Navy guys would party non stop and us college girls would join them. The air was electric because youth was everywhere. I wonder if our crazy singing stuck to the atmosphere there somehow and you heard us in some point of the ether.

I am not surprised that the military did not leave anything behind from a secret base. But I did get a surprise at the part where you stepped on an unstable piece of flooring and suddenly, my computer went down and gave me a note that said "Gah! This tab has crashed" . I wondered if the military had shut down your exploration video! LOL But, it prompted me to reload the page, and I did, and it all started back up again. Keep up the interesting exploration videos! I really enjoy them. I have to admit, I get excited, or more like nervous, when you go out alone into deserted places. Be careful, girl! Have a good vacation, where ever you are going. And take care.

Well the Naval Transmitter was in Aguada and the receivers were located in Isabela and Sabana Seca, they were used for submarine broadcast VLF very low frequency, the main hardware was located at Roosevelt Roads named ISBPS integratted submarine broadcast system and i used to program it every wednesday, mainly used also for submarine telegrams between sailors and their families, to my understanding Sabana Seca was also used as a Cryptology Intelligence and it was the spot were two sailors were killed back in 1979, RIP : CTO1 John Ball and RM3 Emil E White by the macheteros. Theres also a secret navy base located somewhere in El Yunque before reaching the second spanish tower, it is to my understanding that it also should be abandoned it was the naval radar site you should go there and make a video of it.

I was stationed at the Naval base in Sabana Seca (U.S. Naval Security Group Activity) from 1979-1981. I worked at the base Post Office. The swimming pool was just behind the Post Office. I enjoyed my time being there. Met and became friends with the locals in Sabana Seca. Visited relatives and toured the island. I was actually there when the "Macheteros" a small group of "Independendistas" for the independence of Puerto Rico, ambushed the bus the Navy personnel (Cryptological technicians) were being transported to there job site at the Radio Station less than a mile away. I knew the two Navy personnel who was killed during that brazen ordeal. My room mate was on the bus that morning, then told me he was sitting towards the rear of the bus and ducked down. Speculations have it that the closings of the Naval bases in Puerto Rico was do to an accidental death of a security guard (Puerto Rican national) by a practice bombing from the U.S. Navy in Viequez island. Protesters uprised and demanded the removal of the U.S. Navy from Viequez. Also for reasons toxins and contaminants were creating during the practice bombings of the U.S. Navy along the shores, marine wild life and the corals. I never went to the Radio station job site while stationed on base there. My job was mainly moving mail and provide service to the base personnel. But, I never thought I'd ever see the Radio station from someone's else's camera lenses point of view. Thanks Laura, you kind of took me back in time to where I was associated with Navy people like myself and stationed with. The videos you posted of this abandoned base is like going down to the depths of the "Titanic" from when it once was to what it is now. Laura, stay safe and enjoy the adventures in Puerto Rico. I have seen many secret hideout of Puerto Rico had not been for your adventures and posting them. Makes me want to go back with different goals and highlights. If you ever get a chance, try to go to the main base in Sabana Seca. Just off highway "2" on to "866."

Help me understand what is the purpose of Fort Buchanan? It has a golf course? Why?
@LebronPhoto15 ай бұрын
Fort Buchanan supports the military that remains in PR including Reserves, National Guard, recruiting as well as military retirees. It has a golf course because military personnel live on the base and morale, welfare and recreation facilities are provided for them like bowling alleys, swimming pools, tennis courts, basketball courts, gyms, and yes golf courses. The base is currently much smaller than it was in it’s heyday.

Google navy base Sabana Seca and you will find info. If I am not mistaken where Lau was in the video was the antenna radar in Barrio Ingenio or Campanilla, I can't remember which. That antenna was a few miles away from the actual base in Sabana Seca. It was basically radio surveillance.
